The puzzle cracker of the operation.
Coming from a foreign background, Nigel set foot in the Kingdom of Loathing to perform into teaching, as per tradition in his family. At first not so enthusiast about it, he still followed through, out of peer pressure from his relatives. But then he would realize; if he had to go through college to find a profession, he'd rather become a teacher in what he was most passionate about; magic! Combining practicity with passion, you see? This is what brought him to choose the arts of becoming a Pastamancer.
He'd enter the League of Chef-Magi's Academy and follow classes to become a skilled Pastamancer. But already, in his new shool, trouble will arise as he decides to become an Adventurer, to put his magic to contribution. Given his ridicule scavenger skills and his natural clumsiness, he often finds himself stuck into an undesirable situations, like one time where he was stuck at the Goblins' Knobb and had to be rescued. That did not discourage him to learn more and more about the ways of his class, only perseverating into something he felt truly passionate about, while also fulfilling a lifepath he was destined to.
One day, as he was studying in the library of the academy, he would discuss about the different forms of spells with a classmate that would help him with homework. They would read together about a spell that was highly potent, but might save them time for their final exam. Nigel accepted to follow his advice and learnt the spell with him... but as soon as he mastered it and executed it for his exam, he got kicked out of the college and blacklisted from the school's reincsriptions. Turns out that this spell was forbidden by the institution's chart! Dejected, he wandered in town aimlessly, until he got arrested for trespassing into a private area. This time, he was more than desperate about his situation that was only getting worse.
As he got out with his adventuring squad, he learnt about unfortunate news from his university: a Spaghetti Elemental that was supposed to be sealed from the school's corridors was going rogue, and escaped its enchanted cell! Perhaps now was his chance to prove himself to the world around him, as well as his school, that he could change for the best, while staying loyal to his passion about Pastamancy...?

Combat
Nigel counts on all the spells he has learnt in his Pastamancer lessons during a fight. His magic has great support capacities, despite its very little damage range. He is mostly used to deal damage or disable a specific target, rather than area damage. But when he is dedicated to the fight, he sure deals some blows. He is also a vital resource along Saucerors to concoct formulas useful in combat. All he has left to become a prodigy in his category is a pinch of self-confidence!

CLUMSY | INVENTIVE | AFFABLE
Nigel is as scrawny as he looks: impressionnable, naive and air-minded would be three adjectives that would describe him best. He's also a real klutz when it comes to fields that are over his head! He overcomes his poor social skills with his wits and knowledge that he applies in real life situations, which are true life saviours to him!
But more than that, he has a strong wish to improve himself in all fields possible, and this is what drives him to wake up everyday. True, he may not be so confident outside of what he considers as acquired, but he knows to make the difference between a margin for mistakes and a total disaster. And to help himself remember that, he can count on his friends he made along the way to push him further towards that objective.
Design Notes
- He has bandages everywhere around his knees, arms and face due to his chronic clumsiness.
- His poncho is a representation of Under the wave off Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai.

Trivia
- In order to stop being called "Chef Nagi", he decided to trade his original name (so, Nagi) with a more 'western' sounding name: Nigel.
- His surname has multiple layers: Shiraga (a method of slicing negi very thinly), Sharataki (thin white Japanese noodles), takibi (fire), Shiratakibi (white bonfire).
- His prescription glasses have adaptable lenses which change shade in contact with UVs.
- Although he selected a Pastamancer major in college, he was still allowed to try some Sauceror classes. He still has a preference for Pastamancy, because the grimoires are prettier.
- He was known for a time as Subject 37, when he was trapped at the Goblins' Knobb to run experiments on him.
LINKS
He was the first one to greet him when Nigel got first accepted to the League of Chef-Magi. He basically was his referee when he needed anything when it came to magic, and learnt a lot of tricks from him, as a Pastamancer; from the most complicated spells to the code to the dormatories which changed every season.
Ben is an apprentice Sauceror, who, already, has seemed to surpass his own classmates and even teachers. All of these lessons were a cinch to him! The embodiment of Hermione Granger, except masculine. And way, way, way more entitled at that, which makes it all worse. Regardless of that, Nigel still took inspiration from him, learning more of the spells his classes taught him, including That One Forbidden spell only him was not aware it was forbidden (because of course Ben was aware, what do you think? Competition for the Grand Cup of Houses? Intolerable!). Since that fateful day, Nigel holds an understandable grudge against him and cannot wait to see him fail in everything he does: the least you can wish to your worst enemy, at least.
Under the current political status the Kingdom is in, he is best known as "Parmesan" amongst the Council. This man indeed splits his life between assigning quests for eager adventurers and teaching at the League of Chef-Magi. Nigel admired him while at school. He can't relly face him anymore, even as an Adventurer, after the disgrace he has done to the whole school. Though, he can only wish to make amends in front of him, one way or another.
Asides Ahana, with whom he likes to share his favorite spells, Veronica is the person he likes to spend most of his time with. Not only due to the fact that he was the youngest with her, he also truly appreciated her presence and her approach around him. Fiddlesticks! It's what he feared the worst to happen: he was growing fond of her, but he couldn't muster the words to say how exactly! Sounds like a thing that magic cannot solve this time around. So, for now, being the clueless magician that he is, he can only hope that he will build himself the confidence to admit everything to her, after this whole ordeal.
Nigel and her had history, prior to him being arrested and finding her in jail too. He was sent, once, on a mission to prevent the Goblins from invading the world at their Knobb. However, he got kidnapped in the mist of all this, and had to be rescued, as well as preventing the plan from occurring. It was Sonja who came to save him, and escaped with him. Nigel always considered her grit to be a wee bit intimidating, but he knows deep down she intended well. Eventually, throughout the journey back to Seaside Town, they befriended, hoping to see each other, after she was done dealing with her Nemesis. Well, what a surprise it was to see her again, when she hit the bars!
RIGATI, THE SPAGHETTI ELEMENTAL
Spaghetti elementals are not uncommon -- small, unintelligent ones are sometimes summoned as training opponents, and some brave (and foolhardy) Pastamancers have been known to attempt to tame them as pets -- but this is the largest and most malicious one Nigel's ever seen, or indeed ever even heard of. It was given Rigati as a nickname after the most skilled teachers of the school attempted to seal him away from the catacombs under the building, as he was told. But somehow, because of the catastrophic situation that is currently unfolding in the Kingdom of Loathing, it got unsealed by a weird cult of some kind that worshipped it, somehow. Now becoming a threat to the whole world, it hovers over, determined to exterminate any threat coming its way to world domination, and Nigel just happened to be one of them. And Nigel was also going to be the one ready to stop it at all costs, once busted out of prison.
