Kotaro is a good-natured person in general, but stricken with chronic overthinking. Past experiences have taught him that acting on his gut rarely ends well, so he has taken up a cautious approach to life. As a rule, he's content to let other people take the reigns of leadership. Despite this anxiety, he finds an outlet to express his feelings in the form of social media. He has a rather large following for his fashion and vlog-type posts, but he doesn't go out of his way to mention his extracurriculars to other people for fear of disappointing them with his 'real self.'
After he's roped into Kazuko's investigation and gains a Persona, Kotaro opens up a little more. He displays a strong sense of morality, and encourages Kazuko to keep trying to connect with the Shori team despite his dislike for their actions. He values self-sufficiency, though he struggles with executing it in his personal life. Counter to his usual hesitant attitude, he is surprisingly frivolous when it comes to love. His indecisiveness and fear of committing can come off as callous to an outside perspective, but these weaknesses lessen over time as he learns to be confident in himself.
Story
Pre-game
Kotaro was born in Tokyo but moved to Kobe shortly after he was born, being raised solely by his mother for most of his childhood. At the age of eight, she passed away and Kotaro met his father for the first time. His father's contracting work took them to Morimoto, and Kotaro chose to stay there when his father got jobs in other cities.
Mid-game
Social Link
Kotaro's Link is one of the easiest to progress, and automatically initiates after you defeat his Shadow. He can be found at the school gates on most days after class.
At the climax of Kotaro's Social Link, he realizes that he would prefer to be a photographer, making use of his skills at self-portraiture, than to continue his modeling work.
Relationships

Kotaro thought they were weird at first, but took an interest in how totally unselfconscious they were about everything. Over time he grows to care about them deeply, considering them his best friend.

Kotaro thinks she's holding an unfair grudge against Kazuko, and would be willing to fight her on those grounds alone even if she wasn't trying to destroy his hometown.

While Kotaro respects her contributions to the team, he is quickly fed up with her self-centered attitude. His feelings soften once she shows she's willing to care about others, but they still don't get along.

Kotaro doesn't like how much Eiji supports Miyu, but otherwise doesn't have much of an opinion on him.

Her spooky aesthetic scared Kotaro at first, but once he realizes she's just as timid as he is they get along quite well. He is highly encouraging of Kazuko's crush on her.

Kotaro feels bad that they couldn't convince Isami not to join Miyu, despite successfully defeating their shadow.

Kotaro met her in the school's art club and quietly latched on because he admired her artistic skills. He often looks to her for advice, and was estatic when she joined the team so he could return the favor.

Kotaro saw him hanging around the Hirasawa dorms a few times, and was surprised when he turned up on the enemy team. He's initially suspicious of the navigation help, but trusts Akane's vouching for him.

Kotaro didn't meet him until shortly before they moved to Morimoto. He's learned to take advantage of his father's "hands-off" approach to parenting, but a little affection would go a long way.

Kotaro met his shadow self while they were stuck in the same liminal space, and quickly grew infatuated with him. Despite the real Hiro's curt attitude, Kotaro believes that his softer side truly does exist.
[ classmate/boyfriend ]
A boy in Kotaro's class who doesn't know about liminal spaces or Personas. Despite this, his crush on Kotaro never wavers, and he becomes a reliable confidant outside of the team.
