Basics
A veteran monster hunter who is a member of the Catholic Church's Inquisition branch. Mathieu is a kind and protective person, but his hot temper and belief in both the good oin people and righteous justice can sometimes blind him to the manipulations of his allies. He's basically a big puppy who wants to protect everyone.

About
Mathieu is a jovial man who, most of the time, is big in many ways. A big loud voice, big broad shoulder, a big happy laugh - and he will use that size to protect those that are small and vulnerable. This often gives him a fatherly air, especially towards teenagers and children. He has a lot of love within him - for life, people, his country...but most of all for his family. Martial is his little grasshopper baby for example and it's evident in how the two of them interact how close their bond is.
The fact that he has so much love to give is part of why his wife and he have an open marriage - she knows that she will not be short-changed even with several others by his side. So he isn't afraid to be flirtatious, even with people who might seem like enemies at first. After all, he strongly believes in the good in everyone, sometimes to a fault.
On the flipside, making him feel betrayed or exploited (or worse, messing with his family) can lead to him holding lifelong grudges. He has a habit of trying to take care of people even when they're not a fan of it, and sometimes ends up too cocky and confident not only in his parenting abilities. He is polyamorous and tends to fall in love quickly and intensely, and combined with his faith in the good oin people it can make him an easy target for manipulation.
History
Mathieu and his identical twin brother Michel grew up with their mother Marie in a rural, idyllic area. Despite their mother raising them alone, they never felt neglected when it came to parental love. The rivalry of the brothers began when Mathieu, being the more rambunctious kid of the two, constantly got into trouble but still found friends easily and got just the same amount of affection from Marie as the quieter Michel, who always followed the rules and got good grades - just to find himself alone.
As they grew up, both of them were brought into the Cathlic Church's apprentice hunter program- they came from a long line of hunters, and would therefore be trained to take on the role themselves when their grandfather, Marin, retired. Mathieu got into exercising and begging every veteran hunter to teach him some tricks while Michel drowned himself in study work. With Mat being popular with people of every gender and enjoying a wild teenage time, Michel decided that the grapes were sour anyway he wanted to be a quiet and virtuous scholar. He began judging Mathieu openly for being so promiscuous and fights between them became so regular and intense that eventually, the two were separated by their mentor, Raziel, with Michel pursuing magical skills and being teamed up with an exorcist named Emil and Mat brawling and teamed up with another fighter, Lucius.
When Mat was expected to start a family of his own to continue the organization's tradition of passing things down through family lines, he was re-introduced to one of his old flames again: Vivienne. One evening of dancing and talking and they were head over heels for each other again, soon followed by their wedding and then by a long and happy marriage. He was soon blessed with his son Marcel, a sweet and gentle person.
When Michel began working with the Kane Family, the Moreaus were chosen as a trusted family. Eventually, the Moreaus were chosen to care for two of the Kane children, Marvel and Martial, and Mathieu loves them just like his own son.
He and Vivienne have also frequently provided a safe haven for their nephew Marcus, who has always been very helpful in raising the younger children.

Family
Michel Moreau [ Brother ]
Mat's twin brother. The two of them don't see eye to eye and often argue, often to points of not talking for long periods of time. Comparisons between them can make both mad, and Mat thinks that Michel is a terrible parent.
Marie Moreau [ Mother ]
Mathieu's mother. Single, joyful, and full of love, she's always tried to make sure her sons felt valued.
Vivienne Moreau [ Wife ]
Vivi is Mathieu's lovely wife, and often a calming voice to Mat's boisterous attitude. Patient and nurturing, she's often the one who will help the people around her grow and move out of their comfort zone.
Marcel Moreau [ Son ]
Mat's son. He's not a hunter, he's just a big soft civilian priest who believes in the good in all people. Taller by a half a foot and with half the fat, Marcus is even more of a puppy than Mat is, if that's even possible. He's innocent and naïve, and is kept out of the Inquisition's going-ons due to his soft demeanor.
Marcus Moreau [ Nephew ]
Although Marcus is Mathieu's nephew, he might as well be another son for him, as Mat took him in during Marcus's college years and helped giving the kid a loving home after he got kicked out by Michel for being queer.
Martial Moreau-Kane [ Foster Son ]
The sun, the joy, the song of Mat's life, Martial is the cheerful and energetic youngest child of Mat's. Mat and Vivi do all they can for the little grasshopper, and try to raise him with the love he so desperately needs to thrive.
Levi Moreau-Kane [ Foster Son ]
Levi, unfortunately, is a brat that needs a lot of attention. Because Levi is a selective mute and mostly speaks with sign language, it forced Mat to get out of his comfort zone and try to learn to care for a child who needed special attention. Levi is also extremely brilliant, and Mat is very proud of him for going to college at age 15, even if that means Levi had a slightly better relationship with Michel over Mat.
Meleagant Arquette [ Metamour/Partner ]
Vivi's boyfriend and occasionally Mat's partner, Mel was Mat's first foray into a poly relationship as well as the first time that Mat as a settled adult had to come to terms with his queerness. Mel loves children and therefore fits into the large Moreau family quite well, and while he won't push Mat into anything Mat is uncomfortable with, he does try and show Mat he cares in as many ways he can.
Rivialle Kane [ ??? ]
Levi's father and a big asshole. What a jerk. He's arrogant and looks down on Mat and can't even raise his own kids to boot.
Dativo Kane [ Friend ]
Also a big asshole, but less-so than he used to be. Martial's father, and a sort of kind-of frenemy that grew on Mat. He's all bark and no bite, and the two bond over dogs, weapons, and excercise.
Work
Raziel Van Hellsing [ Mentor ]
Mat's mentor in the Inquisition. Raziel is a big jerk who constantly manipulates Mat and pits him against his brother, as well as pushes him to find an apprentice. Raziel is also extremely disappointed that Mat's son Marcel never became a hunter and tries to push Mat into having another kid.
Lucius [ Partner ]
Mat's partner. His surname has been redacted from the Inquisiton's records for unknown reasons, but he's very good at hunting vampires. He's got a very good knack for charging in and kicking doors down, but not much else. It means that Mat has to end up being the tactical brains of the operation on paired missions like that, and that's unfortunate for the two of them.
Emmerich Reuter [ Coworker/Friend with Benefits ]
An ex-Inquisition member, Emil was once an exorcist in Mat's class. They've fucked a couple of times casually, but Mat hasn't seen him since Emil ran from the Inquisition. He hopes Emil is okay.
Samson Epps [ Apprentice ]
Mat's current apprentice and Marcus's hunting partner, Sam is a melee fighter that Mat tries to teach. They're currently working on firearms training, but Sam is very bad at it. He much prefers spears.
Alexi Osborne [ Coworker ]
The Inquisition's current blacksmith, Alexi is a snarky and mouthy person who tries the best they can with what they have. They have a friendly but perhaps slightly insulting relationship with Mat, and hate how Mat tends to act big and macho all the time. Mat sometimes hangs out with Alexi at renaissance faires where Mat helps them table their weapons shop and run their trade circle.
Lidon Meaculpa [ Arch Rival/Ex Boyfriend ]
King of the vampires, and the biggest bounty in the Inquisition. As one of the top hunters of the organization, Mat is constantly hunting Lidon and therefore is always at odds with him. At one point, however, they dated. Mat remembers they broke up because Lidon was manipulating him, but Lidon thought Mat chose the Inquisition over him. While they still have strong feelings towards each other, it's going to be difficult for them to work out their differences. After all, their last relationship ended poorly, with a holy knife in Lidon's chest.
Misc. Friends
Elion Regan [ Datemate ]
One of Mat's datemates. Mat thinks Elion is a very cute bunny and Elion will fight him over it. They bonded over fighting and Mat helped Elion move once, but Mat has also been there to help Elion through some really tough emotional times.
Parys Ostara [ Metamour/Friend ]
Elion's girlfriend, Parys is small, cute, and makes Mat want to cry becuase he wants to protect her. They bonded over adventure and Mat dadded her through a rough breakup.
Luke Sehgal [ On-and-off Boyfriend ]
A demigod ex-soldier and ex-roommate friend of Mat's who really just wants to be left alone to run his flowershop. The two of them sometimes bang, but due to Mat's quite busy job that still involves fighting, sometimes Luke just wants to be left out of it.
Lamruil Landgrave [ On-and-off Boyfriend ]
Another demigod and Luke's long time husband, Lam is also someone who sees Mat sometimes. Since Lam's generally hanging around Luke, Mat mostly sees him when he goes to visit Luke, but Lam tries to invite him to thanksgiving dinners when possible.
Theodore Devus [ Friend with Benefits ]
A friend of the fae, Kabu spends a lot of time traveling and met Mat through Dativo's morning excercise routines. He's a personal trainer, and whenever he's in town on a specific regiment with someone, he stops by and makes sure that Mat also gets his excercise in. Mat will go on morning runs, reluctantly... That belly will come back soon enough.
Bennett Lee [ Friend with Benefits ]
A fellow dad and ex-hunter from the the United States Anglican Church, Mat and Bennett met when they were younger and had to go on a mission together. While they butted heads at first, they eventually saw eye to eye and are generally on good terms. Mat often stays with Bennett and his husband when he's visiting the states, unless he's closer to Luke's area.
B. Hector Greenspan [ Friend with Benefits ]
One of the professors at Marcus and Levi's college, though thankfully not one either of them have. Hector doesn't do long term intimate romantic relationships, but he's happy to do flings, so whenever Mat is in town they often get together for a nice dinner, date, and movie.
Vyron Raletzar [ Boyfriend ]
One of Mat's lovely boyfriends, Vir is one of the more high-manintenence ones. Vir has a lot of trust issues and big emotions, but he and Mat bonded over Mat's lack of literature chops, which Vir appreciates. They're still in the early stages of dating, but it's going well so far. Barring a few run-ins with Vir's stalker.
Antoine Pierce Francis [ Idol ]
As Antoine is the current incarnation of the Mentor of Heroes, Chiron, Mat adores Antoine like a celebrity. He has dreamt for decades about being trained by Chiron and hopes he can convince the centaur to teach him a few things.
