"I haven't got my medical license revoked for nothing!."

Personality

intelligent, determined, serious, anti-social, deliberate.

Henry is hard to have a conversation with unless you're talking about his work. He comes across as unfriendly, unsympathetic, and like he can't take a joke, although he does make sarcastic remarks. Some of these things are uncontrollable aspects of how he interacts with people-- he is awkward around people, yes, even people he likes, and it often comes off as gruffness. However, he personally prefers his work over people anyway. The thing he finds fascinating about working in hospitals or doing research is not the people he's caring for or researching, but the discovery of it all. The adrenaline rush, the satisfaction of answering questions once unanswerable. He is very good at this.

Henry is intelligent, and not only that, but once he starts something he will not give up on it, no matter how difficult it becomes. While his stubbornness about moving on can impede him at times, it often helps him stay focused and unyielding in the face of problems that have defeated so many before him. He works in a very careful way, taking notes on everything, writing down every bit of his work. Even if he might get giddy and excited when something works, most of the time he is serious about his work, and serious about completing it. There are exceptions to these rules. He has a soft spot for kids, and doesn't mind as much when they bother him, even if he still tends to play the role of the grumpy scientist. He has a few good friends, and once he finds someone who actually tolerates them he won't let them go. He'd do anything for his friends or his significant other, even change aspects of himself. He is also a lot kinder than he admits to, in his own serious, unfriendly way.

Appearance

Henry is a white man with curly blond hair and gray eyes. He stands at 5'6", and he has a light build, but one that conceals surprising strength. His nose is usually flushed pink against his pale skin, as if he's always got a cold, and his eyes are accentuated with dark circles. His face is round and smooth in shape, with a nose that turns upward, and hooded eyes that are a little too close together. His ears tend to stick out a bit under his short blond curls. Henry needs glasses, and he prefers the kind with simple, round wire frames, usually in silver or bronze.

His body is small but slightly stocky. He is set firmly on his two feet, he doesn't look like he could be blown away any time soon. Henry wears a lot of dark academia sorts of clothing-- button down shirts, sweaters and sweater vests, argyle socks, slacks and couroroys. He likes darker, monochrome colors, particularly black and white, but he'll occasionally throw in a blue or a green, or even a red, but usually only one of those colors at a time. He stands up straight and confidently, refusing to retreat into himself, even if he is overwhelmed. He stims occasionally with a stress ball in the shape of an anatomically correct heart, or simply by flapping his hands or bouncing his leg. He seems to hold a certain energy in him, barely restrained, particularly when he's excited about a new project.

Backstory

Henry was born in 1901 to a surgeon and a housewife. He had an older brother, Arthur, and a younger sister, Alice. He always felt like he was trying to impress his father, and trying to live up to his older brother, and trying to fly under his mother's radar, when he would exhibit "abnormal behavior" or dress like a boy or express little interest in marriage. He was close to his younger sister, but when she died of the Spanish Flu when he was 18, it set him on the path he would be on for the next 100 years. He set off to become a doctor, dressing as a boy in order to get into the best academy, then set to work on his project-- bringing back the dead. These efforts were always only half-successful, resulting in angry, uncomprehending beasts of people compared to the humans they once were. But, the serum he created allowed him to stay young, and keep working to bring back the dead. He spent the next century working on this. He had many lab assistants, some of which he had relationships with. He returned to college and renewed his degree every 20 years or so, or else people may start wondering why he was 50 on his ID but 26 in his face.

During WWII, he worked as a military surgeon. Unfortunately, when he tried to bring back to life a beheaded general with whom he was romantically involved, that general became furious, and vowed for revenge. More intelligent than his other creations, it was years before the general came back to see Henry, while Henry was visiting Arthur. The general tried to kill Henry, burying him alive, but dosing himself with the serum did more than keep Henry young. Even with his lungs full of dirt, Henry dragged himself out of the hole with his heart still beating, and got rid of the general who'd made the attempt on his life. Another incident occurred years later. He began dating a coworker named Alan, who got involved with his plans. However, when he discovered Henry's actual age, and what he'd done, he broke up with him, degrading Henry in the meantime, leaving Henry, who thought he had finally made a connection with someone, upset and betrayed.

Henry eventually realized that no, he was not just pretending to be a man to be a doctor, women could also be doctors now, he was actually a man. He started transitioning at some point in the late 90s, although it was more difficult at the time. He felt more confident in himself and who he was, and started neglecting his attempts to bring back the dead. He accidentally picked up the twins, Isaiah and Prue, both 10 years old, one night, finding it abhorrent that they didn't seem to have anyone to take care of them and actually enjoying their company. Later, he met Dr. Lin Martinez while on the job. Lin gave Henry his number. Henry spent a good week or so freaking out about this before texting Lin back. They went on some dates, discovered they really clicked, actually. There were a few near-death experiences and a lot of talking, but eventually they moved in together, with Henry's twins and Lin's daughter. And, also, got married. Gay rights.

Relations

Lin Martinez This is Henry's husband. Lin is the extrovert to Henry's introvert, the empathy to Henry's intelligence. They're opposites in a lot of ways, but they have a lot in common-- they're both curious, they both love science, they both enjoy a good cup of tea, and they're both cat people.

Prue and Isaiah Henry found these children rummaging through his garbage and decided to adopt them. He jokes around with them a lot, but also cares deeply about them, and would probably do anything for them to be honest.

Sawbones His very annoying and dear friend, also a doctor. Sawbones and Henry talk about Dad things a lot. Henry believes they have a sort of rivalry. Sawbones thinks they're just good friends.

Cass Volkov Henry is very easily annoyed by Cass, but he also feels a sort of affection towards him. Even though Cass is very different from him and tends to piss him off, Henry's willing to help him when he needs help, which is often.
