Story

With the training of her mother Sofia, Evora (as well as the rest of her siblings) toured to perform internationally, on practically every famous stage you could possibly think of by the time she was only fourteen— though she would prevail as the most successful of her family to go solo, becoming one of Portugal’s greatest Fado songstresses, and at one point being at the level of fame of which to have had the privilege to be invited to the White House to meet President Roosevelt.

Sometime after having her first child with her first lover, of whom her mother wouldn’t permit her to marry after her first marriage with the husband she chose for her was annulled, she tried to transition to an acting career, coming to Hollywood in 1940 and making her first (and only) English language film, of which her charm failed to translate to a western audience.

Evora would finally marry, though to a Welsh beer heir, have two more children with him, and continue recording music in her home country of Portugal, her family travelling internationally, though making a steady home in London by 1955.
