estrel is a Mandalorian mercenary, second in command of the Kyr'yc Haal crew. She is highly competent and expects competence of others. Her primary role in her crew is planning and execution-- if you need a job done, Kestrel will figure out how to do it in the most efficient and effecive way possible, and then be the boots on the ground to actually follow through and get it done. She is skilled with blasters and also at hand-to-hand combat.
On a personal level, Kestrel is direct and blunt, both with strangers and those she knows well. She is very to-the-point, not intentionally unkind or mean but often coming off that way due to her candor. Despite this, she is actually pretty good-natured and easy-going, and has a sense of humor that comes out around friends and family. She does not get distracted easily, and excels both at following pre-planned strategies, and adapting when plans have to be adjusted ad hoc. She is a natural leader and keeps her crew on task with her calm confidence.
With all that being said, unlike her riduur Helene, Kestrel would rather abandon a mission than cause avoidable civilian casualties, in the event that it does come down to one or the other. She is mindful of collateral damange and will avoid it if possible. She has a reputation among other mercenaries of being fair and honorable.

On a personal level, Kestrel is very loyal to her people. She is someone who needs to be devoted to a cause or a task in order to be fulfilled, and her chosen cause is protecting her crew and her family. Routine and structure are important to her and the lack of it stresses her out.

Kestrel is a very experienced fighter who is comfortable in a variety of combat zones. She excels at leading small fire teams through missions, most often extractions, and takes a thorough, methodical approach to any given situation. Although she typically wields dual blasters, she is capable with a wide variety of common weapons.

It also allows her to holster one and use some other type of tool in her free hand. When she employs these, her enemies are usually dead before they are close enough to reach her.

(( BACKSTORY -
Kestrel was born to a traditional Mandalorian working class family on Concordia. She grew up spending most of her day farming, and the rest of it training. As her settlement's most promising young warrior, she was sent to the Royal Academy of Government in Sundari for her studies when she was fourteen, despite having zero interest in government and zero desire to attend the school. When the civil war broke out she fought on the side of the traditionalists, and following their defeat, she was forced to return home to Concordia with the other exiles. There she joined the Kyr'tsad for a few years, but wasn't a huge fan of their methodology and after some time felt like she was fighting for the sake of fighting rather than making any actual progress on retaking Mandalore. At that point, she left Concordia and the Kyr'tsad with her riduur Helene, and their two friends Kasey and Rio to form a mercenary crew. The crew have been quite successful, and are active in the mid and outer rims.

Kestrel and Helene met during their time at the Royal Academy for Government in Sundari. As teenagers they had casual on-again-off-again flings without being particularly close, but with all the turmoil going on during their last few years at the Academy their relationship became more serious. The Civil War broke out during the middle of their final year there. The two sided with the Old Mandalorians and fought for them. Upon the victory of the New Mandalorians the pair were exiled to Concordia with the other traditionalists. They spent a month at Kestrel’s family home before joining the Kyr’tsad. During their two and a half years with this group they were married. Eventually they felt that retaking Mandalore from the pacifists was a lost cause, and broke off from the Kyr’tsad to be independent mercenaries, along with Kasey and Rio. Kestrel is VERY protective over her, always sticking to her (formerly) blind side, and standing/sleeping beteen Helene and any doors/points of access to intercept attacks before they reach her. It's not even really a conscious choice anymore, more instinct. They bicker a lot, but it's mostly for fun.

Kasey and Kestrel are both oldest siblings who had to take charge of their household, and because of this they understand each other. They are each other’s person to vent to, person to sit in comfortable silence with, and person to watch each other’s backs (both in and out of a fight). Kasey appreciates Kestrel stepping up to help with Rio when he was younger, and Kestrel appreciates Kasey being someone she can rely on. They get along very well.

Rio is the annoying younger brother Kestrel wishes she had grown up with. They met when Rio was 9 and Kestrel was 24, and she ended up taking him under her wing. He would follow her around and beg to come on missions with her, and she would mostly say no but occasionally let him tag along when it was safe to do so. As time passed Rio was allowed to come on more dangerous missions, but only as backup/cover fire from a secure location. This supporting-from-afar role was what led Rio to focus on his skills as a sniper. The two of them can often be found roughhousing or getting into questionable situations, even as adults.
