PERSONALITY

EMOTIONALLY INTELLIGENT, LOYAL, OBSERVANT

Kasey is strongly perceptive of the emotions of those around him, noticing subtle shifts in tone, body language, and facial expression that most would not. He is good at knowing when others are in need of support and what to say to provide it. Whether he chooses to provide said support depends on who you are and what he can get out of it. Generally he uses this skill for good, but it can come out in a manipulative way from time to time.

He is very protective of his family, as most Mandalorians are, and generally believes in doing good over doing harm, when there is a choice.

STUDIOUS, CALM, THOROUGH

Kasey's general demeanor is calm and pleasant, and he interacts politely, albiet impersonally, with most beings. He is level-headed even in the most stressful situations, partially because he goes into them very well researched and prepared for all possible outcomes. He does his research and does it well. Never one to rush, he takes a slow and methodical approach to any task, ensuring he completes it fully.

DISINGENUOUS, TWO-FACED, VENGEFUL

Because of his upbringing, Kasey is prone to pretending that he has no feelings whatsoever, so if something is bothering or annoying him he will say absolutely nothing and let the irritation simmer and build over time. This can lead to him being walked all over, and intense, silent resentment as a result. You could be the person that he hates most in the world and unless there are extentuating circumstances, he would still be neutral and pleasant towards you.

Perhaps as a result of the above, Kasey can occasionally be suprisingly vengeful, despite his general desire to do good. If someone does manage to piss him off to the point that he reacts, he will sometimes respond in an excessively cruel manner, whether that be making use of his emotional intelligence to verbally shred someone, or, in a combat situation, making sure he inflicts an extortionate amount of pain by breaking bones instead of dispatching someone quickly and painlessly. This side of him rarely shows itself, and he makes sure when it does, it is away from his family. It's not something he's necessarily ashamed of, but he would rather maintain his image as a calm and kind person.

BACKGROUND

CHILDHOOD

Kasey is the son of a wealthy Corellian businessman and a maid working in his household. His father fired his mother as soon as he discovered she was pregnant, not wanting to deal with all of the issues a bastard child presented. His mother, already an unstable person who should never have had children to begin with, completely lost it, and blamed Kasey for her misfortune. As he grew up he was often the target of her rage, usually verbally but sometimes physically, and from a young age he was treated as more of a domestic servant than a son— partially out of her instability making it difficult for her to manage the household, but mostly out of some twisted form of revenge against his father, although he had zero involvement in Kasey’s life and thus did not know or care of his treatment. Any protest against his unfair treatment was swiftly silenced with one punishment or another, growing more severe are he got older.

When Kasey was ten, his mother had a second child; his half-brother Rio— once again, with a man who didn’t stick around to raise his son. For a short period, having a baby in the house seemed to calm his mother down, but she quickly grew just as bored and frustrated with Rio as she had with Kasey— sort of like the people who give their dog to the shelter when it outgrows the cute puppy phase. At this point their mother had found a boyfriend, who moved into their small apartment. He was abusive to both her and Kasey, with Rio mostly spared because of how little he was. But Kasey knew it was only a matter of time before Rio became a target as well, and so he started looking for some way to escape his mother’s grasp. He found it in the form of a group of Mandalorians who frequented the bar his mother had found employment in. Over several months he developed a friendly relationship with them, and he eventually begged them for a job working for them. The group agreed to take the brothers in as foundlings, with Kasey, who was now thirteen, starting training immediately.

YOUNG ADULT

The group were a rough bunch, and not particularly familial or affectionate, but they took reasonably good care of both Kasey and Rio and began their training as Mandalorians. When the Mandalorian Civil War started in 41 BBY, the group joined up with the traditionalists and then the Kyr’tsad. With the stakes raised and conflict intensifying, the group of mercenaries left the brothers in Kyr’tsad camps, rather than bringing them on missions, and they saw them less and less frequently. It was in these camps that Kasey met Kestrel and Helene. Kasey and Kestrel had a great deal in common and struck up a friendship, often training together. He frequently ended up on missions with her and Helene, with Rio joining them on the less dangerous ones.

As it became apparent that the New Mandalorians were not going anywhere, and the Kyr’tsad’s efforts to oust them were proving ineffective, Kasey, Kestrel, and Helene began to plan to split off from the group and start their own mercenary crew. They eventually managed to do so in 36 BBY, with Rio of course being brought along with them.

PRESENT

The crew were reasonably successful in their first few years, earning a modest living— enough to cover expenses with a little bit left over, but not building wealth. Over the years they developed a specialization in infiltration and extraction, and became well known as experts in this particular type of operation— breaking into a place, grabbing someone or something, and getting out. This repuation allowed them to raise their prices and be more selective in which jobs they take. At present, with a decade and a half of independent contractor experience under their belts, they are considered an elite and well respected group.

PROFICIENCY

COMMENTARY

Kasey enjoys the artistic and historical side of combat-- his interest is primarily academic, and for personal improvement. Learning and practicing new and classical styles is intellectually stimulating to him, and helps him maintain his fitness. He would prefer not to actually have to fight or kill anyone outside of sparring or training, but such is life; he needs to earn a living somehow.

The one exception to this is that he is not above a good bar fight...

STRENGTHS

Kasey has an almost religious devotion to learning different styles of combat, and this makes him an extremely adaptable fighter who is able to assess his opponent and respond with the form or strategy most effective against them. He is skilled with a wide variety of weapons, both ranged and melee. He favors a simple beskar polearm, but doesn’t end up using it too often as most enemies are eliminated before they are close enough to touch.

WEAKNESSES

While his versatile style has many advantages, it has drawbacks as well. Mainly, as a jack of all trades, he is thus also a master of none— so, if he is using a more specialized weapon and ends up matched up someone who uses that weapon as their primary form of combat, he would likely be defeated. This risk can be mitigated by having multiple weapon options available, which Kasey tries to ensure is always the case. His weakest form of combat overall is plain hand to hand.

His zodiac sign is Taurus.

Although Helene is the crew's primary pilot, Kasey also enjoys flying and is the designated backup pilot.

Kasey finds the Jedi's combat style to be very interesting and balanced, and studies holos of Jedi fights in order to learn it as much as he can.
