Bio:

Arel Hardek was next in line to become Chieftain of the Hardek clan, a responsibility she did not want to have. But, it was a role she was born into and she could not shirk her duties. Arel was far more content to experiment with blacksmithing and tinkering, learning methods of creating new alloys from traders, studying various forms of mechanical engineering, and importing equipment for her personal forge. She's even managed to reverse-engineer glasses to overcome her incredibly poor vision.

Eventually, her mom (the previous chief) became an elder, and Arel was due to ascend. A ritual was prepared by her clan; every member would give up a small portion of their life force to ensure good health for the chief. The amount of life force was positively tiny; so small as to have no lasting effect on those taking part. Over the several hundred members of the tribe, it would add up to noticeable levels. Arel would receive enough life force to ensure she doesn't die young, and keep a strong body and will into her elder years.

Arel, in a fit of panic, chickened out in the middle of the ritual, unwittingly causing a catastrophic chain reaction. Life was siphoned from those taking part, but the siphoning could not be stopped, spiraling out of control. Instead of the infinitesimally small amount of life force sacrificed, every single member of her clan died. In return, Arel become immortal, forced to live with the results of her actions for an eternity. She took on the chieftain's honorific of Loh, a title she originally shied away from, as a constant burden and reminder of her guilt.  Besides the immortality, the event gave her an "aura" that provides her words and actions with the weight of her entire tribe, allowing her to control others through her commands.

Personality:

Loh-Arel is torn between two conflicting halves. On one hand, she's a reclusive loner who doesn't like the company of others much. On the other hand, she is immeasurably bored and doesn't know what to do with her eternal life.

Trivia:

  • "Loh-" is an honorific that means "Chief." Calling her "Loh" is the equivalent of calling someone "Mr." or "Dr." but is far more rude, as it carries the cultural connotations of limiting her solely to her role as chief and denying the person-hood she has on top of that role. Simply calling her "Arel" is far less rude, implying a casual relationship, which would only be disrespectful if done by a stranger or someone she is not on good terms with. She doesn't mind the latter as much as other fauns would, though.
  • She was 20 when she became "Chief." She finished maturing, and looks to be about 26, but all signs of aging have reversed, meaning she actually has a bit of baby fat.
  • Paints her hooves, which would otherwise be the same color as her horns.
  • Maintains a small garden that grows a faun delicacy. Its a plant that can be pressed into a cloth-like fibre that can be chewed on to release juicy oils with a sweet, tea-like taste. Ultimately, it's inedible, so fauns spit it out when they're done chewing on it. Can't actually be used to make good tea. She maintains a large supply because she will compulsively chew on anything she can reach.
  • No matter how many times she dies, she will come back to life within 24 hours, devoid of injuries or illnesses. While in theory, she would be killed for real once she's died as many times as there were living members of her tribe, she is able to recover the life energy "consumed" when she dies. Much like how the members of her clan would normally be able to fully recover from the small portions of life energy they give up, she too is able to fully recover from the "small portion" of life energy she loses when she dies and revives.
  • With the death of her clan, and the fact that she's destroyed the tome that details the ritual's process, any knowledge on how to cast this ritual is gone forever.
  • She defaults tosusing her culture's formal greetings and procedures when nervous. She'll introduce herself by full name without stammering.
  • She's at her least nervous when geeking out over something she's interested in; primarily crafting / smithing stuff.
