Lucius' loyal tag-along
Romulus was indoctrinated at a relatively young age, when his tribe was destroyed by the Legion. He was one of the few promising boys from there, given that even then he looked strong and steadfast. Which made a good soldier material. Romulus is, in fact, a great soldier, if we keep in mind specifically the skills to defeat enemies and to bear heavy wounds. But at the same time he displayed an astonishing, disappointing lack of any ambition or leadership skills. He never wanted to get higher ranks, to get glory or fame. It's hard to tell that he ever wanted...well, anything but the chance to get into another scuffle. Even having just lost his home and family as a child, he was not eager to get on with peers from his tribe for support or friendship. The said peers always found him odd and offputting, but that's fine, Romulus never considered them to be interesting to him either. He was fine on his own. That's why his spontaneous comradery with the new frumentarius was a bizarre thing for Everyone in the camp.
Design notes
● Build notes: 178 cm, stocky/husky build.
● Tan skin tone.
● Facial notes: Square facial shape, average, straight-ish and often frowning eyebrows, big and Very Straight nose, 'flat' upper lip. Looks older than his actual age.
● Scars: Long old knife scar on his face + lots of random ones all over his body.
● Body markings: A mole above his left eyebrow and vaguely snake byte-loking twin moles on his right cheekbone
● Hair: Short blonde hair of straight texture with bangs combed back. Can be drawn with buzzcut.
● Clothing style: For most of the time, while he's somewhere around the legion camps, he wears Prime legionary-esque gear [please feel free to simplify/stylize it However, the helmet stuff is totally optional]. If Lucius drags him in other places, Romulus wears, well, basically any generic civilian clothes. Casual stuff mostly, maybe with some light armor elements like holster, straps, shoulder pads etc etc.
● Impression: Careless. Stoical, I'd say?
● Weapon notes: Machete gladius, 10mm pistol [or 10mm submachine gun maybe], but mostly his bare hands lmao.
● Feel free to draw him with body hair and generally not-perfect skin if it fits your artstyle!
● There's no need to colorpick from his references, just try to keep the approximate colors/shades ratio recognizable and you cool.
My fave things ever/wishlist of sorts??
Art nouveau inspired things
Disco Elysium, Hades, Pathologic or Transistor inspired style of portraits.
Scenes in general, even sketchy ones. Personal god tier.
Well, I genuinely love sketchier/a bit messy pieces in general, so don’t stress much about rendering!!
Trading cards and posters/magazines front page styled things!
DAI tarot [i'm obsessed with them.] or original tarot.
Character interactions since. I love character interactions so much. Would love to see your characters interacting with mine as well, as pals or rivals or dunno just neutrally hanging around, but I’d prefer no romantic interactions unless discussed + unless we know each other.
Anything lore-connected [story-related, referencing mentioned fave things etc etc] and slice of life stuff <зз
'Song art' (based on/containing song lyrics orrr poetry idk) is super cool
Playing around the symbolism of any kind [whether based off motives I’ve mentioned or your own associations for him]
Classical [uhh -ish? I count the XX century as well here so idk how to name it properly] art redraw. I love it when people make homages to the art they love <з
Retro and western/cowboy-ish vibes
Totally fine
Any mood of art, actually! I love peaceful soft atmosphere and cute interactions as much as I love darker stuff [angst, self-conflicts or character getting into some very very bad situations]
Other outfits [until it stays somewhat in-character? Check the Design notes tab]! I'm not that good at designing wardrobe, so if you like it, it's your finest hour!
Light or moderate gore is allowed, feel free to place him in dangerous situations, just avoid fatal injuries like losing body parts and breaking bones. I'm also okay with stylized gore [candy/fruit/flower and neon blood kind of things]
Meme/joke art if you have something vibing with him on your mind
Artistic/not sexualized nudity is 100% fine!
Eating something
Swearing is fine, but please avoid slurs of any kind.
Colors and style experiments, including light design simplification, alternative palettes or anything like this, just make sure you keep him recognizable. I'm absolutely cool with eyestrain, glitches and any post-correction effects, go ham!
In general, well, you have artistic freedom until you conflict with already written information! I'm really curious to see your headcanons unless it doesn't cross his canonical lore!
Just be careful with 'donts' and you'd be fine!
It depends
AUs — I'm 100% cool with references to these media, modern/XX century aus and surival stuff like zombie apocalypse aus maybe. Other aus/crossovers/etc are 'better ask first' (not if we're pals though, have fun however you want if we know each other <з)
I'm only okay with shipping our OCs if we know each other and I'd still prefer to be asked about it beforehand, k?
Just don't 👺
Hatespeech/hateful topics are, probably, Very obvious thing, but. Still. And please please don't use slurs towards my ocs/in art for me in general, no matter how reclaimed they seem to be to you [i count words like slut/whore as well and I won't elaborate].
Please try your best to avoid major design mistakes and drawing obviously out of character things — stylization is fine, though, I'm talking about drastic change of body type or skin tone, hair texture, erasing notable facial features and so on. Just read the design notes, I’ve mentioned all the important things to keep in mind there.
Overall, don't erase characters’ identity. Don't change gender, race (and species in general, unless I specifically asked for it) and sexuality of the character.
Smoking/drinking/using drugs-connected situations
Suggestive or sexual stuff
Fetish art, even if overall SFW.
Very cruel and graphical gore with character going through fatal injuries like losing body parts.
Vomit/throw-up stuff
Likes
● Getting into fights.
● Lighters. He has a small collection and likes playing with them, to Lucius' annoyance
● Animals, especially dogs
● Well basically doing monotonous stuff brings him comfort. So he cleans his place very often, which makes him surprisingly neat person
● Daydreaming or just watching the nature while his long silent walks
● Fried food and crispy snacks
● Toy dinosaurs. Probably has a soft spot for small figurines and plushies in general. Never had much anyway.
Dislikes
● Bustle he finds unreasonable
● Baking sun
● Vast spaces and giant objects make him feel uneasy. He hates canyons, for example, and probably has some form of megalophobia
● Raw or undercooked meat
● Sweet stuff [bears a sensitive gums curse]
Connections
Lucius
the only friend
Lucius has a running joke that Romulus is his personal praetorian, which the last finds flattering. Romulus admires the first person in legion who treated him like he saw a person in him instead of just a toof or some sort of human-shaped wild animal. It touched him, unexpectedly. He started to hanged somewhere around him ever since, although he never actively tried to befriend him or iniciate a conversation. He also became very protective towards him, which surely minimised all the jokes about annoying upstart from nowhere. Which happened to be very convenient for Lucius, so from this one he Actually acknowledges Romulus' presence and makes a decigion to keep him around- Erm, officially becomes his friend, I wanted to say. Yeah.
Just like I said, Romulus admires him. He percieves Lucius as very smart and purposeful person, and pays respect to him for a bunch of traits real-world Lucius never ever had [like. he believes he's. noble. and kind. jeeez]. He's like a brother he always wanted to have in his life, even better maybe. He's not equal, he's superior, as a person who, unlike Romulus, always knows what he wants in this life and, generally, what he or other people should do. Romulus always craves for such lighthouse people in his life, bad thing is he's not aware you should avoid lighthouses if you want to survive.
Feel free to draw him interacting with your characters if you want!
