Enna grew up alone, born to a peasant mother who was impregnated by her employer and then tosssed aside. His mother worked hard to give him a good life and education, stealing books for him to read. He was often alone as a child, and his preference to read rather than play led to the other kids in the slums bullying him. One day, his solitude was broken by a boy who took interest in him, protecting him from the bullies and pestering him into being friends. They grew up together, and Enna is quite fond of him.

Unfortunately, when his powers manifested, he was immediately whisked off to Andowyn Spellcasting Academy so that he would not be a danger to others. They have not seen each other since. There, he met Talvere who became his roommate. The pair became close, developing a secret friends-with-benefits relationship. Although they mostly lost touch after Talvere left Andowyn, they occasionally send emails over the slow connection of interplanetary internet.
