Valentine / Sanya
[ twin sister ] There is no one in the world he is closer to than Valentine; would quite literally commit war crimes to secure her continued welfare. No exaggeration to say that they are two halves of a whole; though they lack 'twin telepathy' and never finish each other's sentences—that's just weird—to see the strengths of one is to know the weaknesses of the other. Morphs into a seemingly different person around her. Finds his sister's level of empathy incomprehensible most times and untenable sometimes. Once in a blue moon will end up in a rather vicious quarrel with her and go weeks without speaking—will often feel completely differently about a situation &, unforunately, are perfectly matched in bullheadness.
Althea
[ not-girlfriend ] Always approximately 2 seconds away from showing emotions he'd never thought himself capable of in her presence; somehow holds it together, most of the time. (Wait until he finds out his emotions beam directly into her Mind!) Finds her far too pretty for his mental stability; secretly fascinated with her wings. Not aware she might be manipulating his emotions yet probably won't be too mad about it if/when he finds out—actually, would try and convince her to intentionally manipulate his emotions when he's around Important People so that he can be more, you know, approachable. Good for business and all. Spends precious daylight hours figuring out how to discreetly seek advice from his sister about Althea-related matters.
Nine
[ dragon ] His soul-bound companion: any harm that befalls Nine befalls Xander, and vice versa. Stumbled upon her barely-alive form while on a training mission as an academy student, high in the mountains; fought off a troup of trappers who'd already killed the rest of her family (the last of her species) and brought her back to the academy with him. Threatened expulsion by the headmaster if he didn't get rid of her immediately; smiled, before heading back to his rooms to pack his bags. Never spotted without her.
Melchior
[ Valentine's dog ] Gifted Melchior as a 2-month-old puppy to Valentine before he'd left for the academy. Treated quite coldly by the dog upon his return, to his dismay, though he hasn't ever stopped trying to win him over. Nine is fascinated with Melchior; often catches her copying the dog's haughty mannerisms and prancing gait.
