Overview

The first god of Mors.

Known as the Artificer, it is he who brought life to the void and sculpted the raw fabric of Mors. He is the deity of life and death, and the guardian of souls. As an avatar of memory and a weaver of time, he protects the order and stability of his creation.

Purpose

A psychopomp, more or less. .....

History

Β  Origin
great big wip

Created alongside his twin, Miriam, by a chaotic entity known only as the Artisan.

- stuff.. neither twin could grow due to the nature of their creation and the resulting lack of a soul

- regardless, life was comfortable under the care of the Artisan and his partner, Prussia.

- six months after creation, the Artisan provided souls for his children. moro's soul held a particular history

- in part, assumed the identity of the soul he'd been gifted. took its past lives as his own, and its names, Markl and Akuji, as well. through the soul, inherited a great power or memory and creation although it would remain dormant until his adolescence.

Left to his own devices throughout much of his adolescence after the disappearance of the Artisan and Prussia. A wild, reckless child who suffered multiple insecurities, many of which stemmed from a lack of purpose, guidance, and a sense of abandonment.

Found refuge, counsel, and acceptance within Phaios who grew to become the greatest love of his life. Saw her as a mother and did his best to appease her in every way that he could.

The return of his creator introduced chaos into the lives of many. The Architect had grown savage and malacious upon his over the course of his absence and Morioch quickly discerned just how detrimental the beast could be without some form of restraint. Violence against his violence would not quell the creature's lust for destruction.

Sabotaged many of his relationships as a result and quickly distanced himself from the new set of children the Artisan had formed. While aligning himself with his maker, effectively cut off the majority of his social ties and bred a malignant hate between himself and his twin.

Fashioned his life in a way to convince all around him that he had become like his creator- vicious and unapproachable. Committed himself to the Artisan as a lover and apprentice. For all anyone could tell, Morioch had grown twisted and perverse; a loyal servant to the demon that was his creator.

One individual remained privvy to the truth, however. Of all those he cared about, Moro could not sever his heart from Phaios. His mother remained his anchor throughout the traumas of his new life and kept him grounded amidst the maelstroms whipped up by the Artisan's violence. Never did she betray his secret, either: that Morioch had become the Artisan's muzzle.

Through their relationship and the believable love Thistle expressed to his maker, the Mnemonist found a way to control the savage. Acts of violence were dampered and sometimes stopped altogether by Thistle's intervention and as the Artisan taught his favored creation the secrets of his trade, Morioch slowly devised a way to usurp his creator.

Unfortunately, he could not act before the requirements of his ruse drove Phaios to suicide. Shattered by the loss of his mother, Thistle used his lover for catharsis and then set his mutiny in motion.

Power

The roots of Morioch's power lie in memory and willpower. Imagination is hidden tool of trade as well. With its use, the Quillback is able to alter his memories and forge entirely new recollections, thereby expanding the scope of his power and entirely bypassing any need for a plausible explanation behind his creations or acts. With such an amorphous and limitless pool of possibilities to draw from, Thistle may be considered omnipotent.

With such an expansive well of potential, Morioch has crafted universes and worlds within them. To help him manage these worlds, he has risen chosen individuals to a level of godhood and imbued them with great powers. To do help him toil, he has sculpted countless beasts to carry out his decrees. Life and death have come to mean little to him; both have been conquered. And to those who have sought him for such he has given powerful artifacts of his own making.

However, his power cannot influence or alter worlds outside of his own making. The same is true of creatures who are not intrinsically bound to him unless they desire it to be so. Should an individual wish to be changed by his power, they must willingly allow him to see their wish to fruition. So it is also true for the taking and restoration of life; a creature's soul- or will- must allow Morioch to end their life or return it to them before he can so much as guide it in either direction. Though such choices need not be a conscious decision, the Quillback must always abide them in matters not under his reign.
