Draco

618 . male . homosexual

Draco was once a priest, though he no longer remembers the name he went by in those days. He was always extremely well liked by those around him, and spent most of his life protecting the weak, even at his own expense.

Along the way, however, he grew disillusioned with the world around him. He began studying old myths surrounding a god known only as Astra, said to be the progenitor god of their universe. It was this research which ultimately drew Astra's attention to Draco, and this would ultimately lead to Draco's fall into a Demon.

  • His hair is always worn down unless specified otherwise.
  • He very rarely smiles, if ever.
  • He is extremely tall, standing at 6'7.

Event One

Draco was orphaned early in his life, and sent to an abbey that took in needy children. Raised to adhere to the teachings of the god Calix, he centered his life around protecting others and cultivating inner strength. Though he was formally a priest, his duties were perhaps more akin to a mercenary at times, travelling between nearby villages to mediate disputes and protect them from dangers.

He was never terribly happy, even in childhood. Though treated kindly, he found living as a servant to a God he couldn't see or hear difficult. As his faith began wavering, so did his ideals--and he began to turn to old folklore to search for new meaning, hoping to reignite his belief in Calix. This was not, ultimately, what he found.

Event Two

As Draco reached his mid twenties, he grew more and more obsessed with myths surrounding the original three gods of their world, who had fallen out of popular belief long ago. Draco's interest centered around the first of the three, the one believed to have used most of his power to create the universe itself, before going dormant: Astra. Though most writings at the time cautioned that Astra was a fickle and even malevolent being, Draco's pride and hubris drove him to ignore the warnings of those that had come before him.

He began, in secret, worshiping Astra, searching for ways to awaken him from his slumber. And, one day, he succeeded. Astra came to him at long last, as beautiful as he was cruel, and Draco's obsession with him only grew. It was at Astra's urging that he killed many of his fellow priests, though contemporary accounts of this event are unclear as to what the purpose of this was. Some believe it was to have been a sacrifice to Astra himself, but this was never confirmed.

As his grip on reality faltered more and more, Draco's feelings for Astra grew more complicated. Astra's mere presence was enough to cause physical changes, horns sprouting from his skull and his hair fading sickly white. This phenomenon had been mentioned by many of those who had written on Astra prior, though Draco's journals of the events were the most detailed, even if his thoughts were often scattered and rambling. These journals only began late into the process, perhaps as a way to hold onto his wavering sanity. Draco began to resent Astra, believing him to be not a God but a demon.

Their relationship came to a head when, desperate and in pain, Draco stabbed Astra through the chest with a blade forged of blessed steel, a weapon he had been gifted when he had become a priest. Astra, wounded and caught off guard, reacted on instinct, injuring Draco irreparably. Retreating to heal himself, Astra sent his younger brother, Athanasius, to collect Draco. Athanasius, as he did with many of Astra's victims, took Draco in and healed him as best he could, gifting him a new life, even if it was as a demon.

Event Three

After Athanasius' intervention, Draco awoke to find himself miraculously alive, though no longer human. He retreated East, near where he had been born, laying low for several centuries and piecing his mind and body back together, as well as growing used to his new abilities. Very few accounts of his life exist beyond his journals during his time with Astra, so what exactly occurred during those few hundred years is unknown to anyone but him. Draco maintains to those around him that very little happened, as he spent many of those decades dormant, still healing from the wounds Astra inflicted, mentally and physically.

As the modern age began, Draco ventured back into the world around him, though cautious. He can only cloak his appearance for short periods, and thus kept his distance from others, still wary of forming relationships with others. It was only when the Rapture began, and Astra resurfaced from relative anonymity, that Draco rejoined society too. He began urging people to safety, protecting them from the monstrous entities that had started sharing their world with them, and when Astra used the last of his power to heal the rift slowly eating away at their world, Draco was among those who helped him do so. Astra's dying moments were spent in Draco's arms, though the God's injuries were such that it's unlikely he knew who was holding him.

Astra's death affected Draco a great deal. While he had hated him for the pain he had put him through, he was also the only person who had ever truly seemed to care about Draco as a person, and losing that was almost as painful as the day that Astra left him to die. Rather than allow himself to fall back into old habits of loneliness and self-destruction, he threw himself wholeheartedly into protecting what remained of mortal civilization, pulling together a small band of other demons and immortals to travel from place to place, looking for survivors. He eventually stumbled upon rumors of a young man said to be the rebirth of Astra, a Dainty by the name of Ramsey Blackwood,  and Draco set out to find him, for better or for worse.

Ramsey
Lover?

Draco and Ramsey have a somewhat complex relationship due to Draco's past relationship to Astra. He resents the God for what he did to him, and while he is aware that Ramsey bears no memories of his past life as Astra, it's hard not to place that blame on him.

However, Draco's feelings for Astra weren't always ones of hate--he loved him, in the beginning, and Ramsey seems to have the same hold on his heart, no matter how irritating or cruel he can be.

Vail
Confidant

Vail is a young assassin whom Draco took under his wing after finding him badly injured. While not always a pleasant person, Vail is extremely loyal, and was more than happy to remain at Draco's side afterwards.

He now works for Draco exclusively, and as one of the few known mortals capable of slaying demons, this has given Draco and his group far more influence. Vail is generally seen as Draco's second in command, though on a personal level, Draco sees him as a little brother figure.

Nana
Ally

Nana is a minor demon who has more of a passion for mechanics than stealing souls. Draco employs her to help keep their weapons in good shape, though he sometimes finds her tiring, as she enjoys talking about her latest inventions a little too much for his taste.
