One thousand years and I still yearn for your touch once more.

ATLAS
Alicorn born before Luna and Celestia he used to bear the responsibility of raising both the sun and moon, but when they appeared he took on the responsibility of conjuring the eclipse instead.
A while after Luna and Celestia took over the responsibility of the sun and moon, Atlas met a unicorn whom he proceeded to fall head over heels in love with almost immedeately. She meant everything to him, she was his world, his sun and moon and everything above and below. Luna and Celestia tried to warn him she wouldn't live forever, but he chose not to listen.
ADAGIETTO by Gustav Mahler
"If you are to be the sun, I am to be Icarus, a fool fated to fall before I ever reach you. Even on wings of wax, I would still fly to you."

  • When Atlas' wife died of old age, Atlas was in shambles. He stopped tending to his duties, he stopped doing the things he loved, he stopped caring entirely.
  • For many years he'd had a unique ability to comfort those around him with his mere presence, but after his love died, his calming presence had been replaced entirely with putrid hatred.
  • Eventually his hate for the world that had so cruelly taken his love away boiled to the surface. He had started lashing out at the alicorn sisters, and this had gone on for months, getting worse and worse each time.
  • During one particularly bad outlash, Celestia was forced to shatter Atlas' horn, and he fled Canterlot the same day.
  • He fled to the everfree forest, where he would hide away for over 120 years. During which he tried everything he could to end his curse of eternal life.
  • Eventually after many many years of lonely sulking, he saw Chocolate Love, and she reminded him so much of his late wife. At first it broke him. But eventually he couldn't help but fall in love all over. He watched from afar for months, until he eventually made his move; clumsy and awkward from living in solitude for more than 100 years, but sweet nonetheless.
