Profile
Nakheliore
Nakheliore has a resemblance to a number of significant persons from history. Positive characters in the old Fratteian culture often had similar types - proportional, straight features, blond hair, light eyes and skin - all traits which are considered signs of closeness to the deity and pure blood in Fratteia. Nakheliore is proud of her similarity to these heroes of yesteryear, but does not perceive this as her own achievement; rather, it motivates her to match the heroes in other aspects besides appearance. Due to this likeness she also looks usual against the people in the background of her class and nationality.
Her wardrobe depends on the circumstances. As a child, she did not have to think about such trifles because of the difficulties of her position: her main priority was survival, not self-expression. But later life got better and gave her the opportunity to enjoy luxury, which she, oddly enough, did not particularly miss during her time at the monastery.
At first sight, Nakheliore can make an impression of passive, detached and uninterested person. She spent a significant part of her life prior to meeting Helvyriss in a monastery, hidden from most of the outside world.
However, Nakheliore and her order are not so simple. She never liked the laws or anything else of modern society outside the solitary residence of the nuns, though many would call her life interestingly hedonistic beyond the monastery, as she was known to attend parties and events thrown by the upper class as many known artists of her time did. Her dislike, at first, was expressed only by words, but one unforeseen and tragic incident put Nakheliore’s life in danger and radically changed her position. That tragedy, in a sense, consequently happened because of her carelessness, but this fact does not change the essence. She considers current official religion and its rival network of greedy magician’s small cults empty and meaningless, contrasting it to the old faith of real existed goddess and the founder of the state, Elestheria. Nakheliore considers her an example for imitation, admiring the goddess’s deeds and achievements -- in other words, Nakheliore more admires Elestheria as person than as a deity.
The achievements of sorcery cults are pathetic in Nakheliore’s opinion, she is convinced that their very existence is full of falsehood. She once almost paid her life for this position. However, neither her contempt to the current regime nor admiration of Elestheria did not stop her from leaving her order for the sake of her own ambitions; being the devout person she is, she does however regrets of that act of betrayal, though only on moral grounds and not philosophical.
Nakheliore isn’t used to show off strong emotions and always tries to control herself. Outwardly, she is almost always calm and cold, and it is difficult for other people to put her out of balance. She always calculates actions and consequences in advance, does not act foolhardy and is generally more inclined to think than to act, despite her life position and world outlook. This trait can sometimes be seen as prolonged self-doubt and indecision; but, nevertheless, Nakheliore quickly adapts to changing conditions and knows how to find a way out of despair.
Her morality is ambiguous and shifting, obscure and questionable. Far from all of her goals can be called virtuous and humane, because she is selfish and firstly thinks about herself, and is distinguished by cynicism. However, despite this fact, she is quite pleasant in communication, as long as she needs to make this impression and, of course, if she considers her interlocutor worthy. She has no difficulty in interacting with people. Ill-wishers mean nothing to her and she is indifferent to their opinions. She is used to (usually within reason) expressing her attitude and opinions of people and events frankly, so much so her directness may be harsh and offensive, but Nakheliore does not care about this much. She is also noted for her perfectionism, in relation to herself and to others. She makes high demands of herself and those around her.
The strength of Nakheliore can be rightfully considered as a great ability to adapt to new conditions, the trait contributed to some of her life’s events. She is not inclined to worry too much about changes, especially if these changes are inevitable and cannot be prevented. She is also attentive and prone to rational thinking, retaining her sanity even in difficult situations.
Her weakness is the fear of failures; not small failures, but fatal situations that will significantly affect her life. From an early age she was afraid of death -- and if at first only in a literal sense, then later she had a fear of "social death”: the fear of not achieving her goals, not justifying her own hopes, and/or wasting her life before dying as ordinary and unremarkable person.
Little is known about Nakheliore’s childhood. In her appearance, it is not difficult to guess that she is from a good and old family, a family which fate and deeds of the magician rulers did not spare. Nakheliore survived by mistake and there was practically no one to care for her, so she had to rely on herself in matters of survival. However, this nightmarish period lasted not too long -- the "talented homeless girl” was noticed by a prominent artist who decided to adopt her, not so much out of pity or kindness, but from practical motives. So Nakheliore officially became his student, and unofficially performed various and often illegal directives. As a rule, she had to monitor and spy on the competitors, and in every way contribute to the career advancement of her teacher. This way of life provided her a set of very useful skills, and helped her teacher to enrich himself even more and achieve greater influence. Nakheliore earned a fame as a talented artist in her own right and the justified hope of her teacher, who led a comfortable life and enjoyed the adoration of people.
During this period, she was invited to the temple under construction to paint it, but because she had been careless about responding unkindly to the local cult, the priests decided to punish her brutally. On the day Nakheliore completed her work, she was dragged to a tiny room where she was to be immured alive by way of bricking up into a wall. However, despite the fact that she experienced a severe shock, she was rescued by spying representatives of the mysterious “Order N.” who were interested in her and took her to themselves. As already mentioned, this order was not simple, and therefore the skills that Nakheliore already had were appreciated -- which was one of the reasons for interest in her, in addition to her political views. The nuns were associated with the existing temples of the old religion and engaged in struggling with the influence of sorcery cults, such as those who imprisoned her. In addition to improving her skills during her time with the nuns, Nakheliore also received new ones: she was trained to use magic, and she considers this to be a very significant event. Her magical skills were aimed at facilitating her work; the initial arsenal consisted mainly of illusions, but later became more diverse. This was also influenced by Helvyriss, in whose company Nakheliore has been from the time of flight from monastery.
Later, knowledge and skills obtained in the monastery became very useful for her during her stay in one of the few surviving religious centers. She went there by the will of Helvyriss and had to play the role of the elder priest and mentor, to find the third “heir” of phylactery among the young clerics.
