~*Appearance*~

Heart-shaped face with widow's peak. Large rounded eyes, light brown. Skin quite dark brown, cool-toned. Hair black, textured, always braided, either in two simple plaited pigtails or box braids gathered into bigger plaits, may or may not be looped, usually tied with pink ribbons. Likes to leave her fringe loose. Nose smallish and slightly curved. Mouth is small with average-sized lips, dark-edged fading to pink in middle, usually smiling. Slight gap between incisors.

~*Backstory*~

The third child of six born to a mother from India and a father from the West Indies in a bustling port town, Violet grew up mingling with a diverse crowd, picking up at least a smattering of many different languages and dialects within those languages. Her family was not particularly wealthy but was relatively secure, and their home life was happy and stable. A naturally cheerful child, Violet became something of a social butterfly. She could find a way to get along at least superficially with most people, but she suffered the drawbacks of mixed ancestry; she and her siblings weren't considered to quite fit in securely with either side, made worse in their town at large by the fact that neither side was white. This aggravated her own natural tendency to flit from one person to another and one subject to another, so eventually she was on good terms with almost everyone she knew but not really deeply bonded with any of them outside her family. Her family, kind as they were, had their own problems with her physically disabled youngest sister. Her older sister and brother helped, but Violet was at an age where she was not relied on as much as them, nor supervised as strictly as her younger twin brothers, so she more or less ran free.

In her early teens, after her older sister moved out of the town, Violet started to hang out with her older brother's friends, including an older (white) boy with a rough reputation, on whom she soon developed a crush. She started drinking casually, dressing more stylishly, and doing her best to look and act older to fit in with the gang and catch his eye. Eventually he and his own friend group started inviting her to hang out without her brother; he started an unwisely imbalanced relationship with her (she being fourteen and him seventeen), and the gang started getting her involved in their shadier activities such as shoplifting and graffiti. Things came to a head during a disastrous evening when they started a fire and were caught at the scene. The danger was stopped quickly, little damage was done, and Violet got away with minimal penalties, but her reputation was irretrievably damaged, so she left to live with her sister in a bigger city a suitable distance away. She took to the new city like a duck to water, finding much bigger communities and a few more people with similar life stories to her own, and now knowing how to navigate the friend-making process more cautiously.

~*Personality*~

Violet's generally optimistic and focused on the present. Not that she hasn't learned from the past, but she doesn't hold grudges anything like as strongly as some of her friends do, and while she can plan for the future she's generally more interested in enjoying what's happening now.

She's probably the member of the group with the most emotional intelligence and communication ability; when they need a negotiator, Violet's there, especially if they need a translator.

She certainly doesn't need a man but would definitely like one, but since she's been burned so badly before she's cautious about seeking another and has decided to wait till she's a bit older and wiser.
