Salem is very distrustful of people at first, and has a confrontational personality and a tendency to start shit with people over perceived slights. He truly wants to be loved by someone and gets easily attached to anyone who shows affection to him, sometimes to not-so-great results. Salem has a complicated relationship with death and the afterlife and was greatly affected by the death of his mother when he was young.

As a child, Salem witnessed the slow and agonizing death of his mother as she succumbed to a grave illness. This loss would shape much of his approach to life thereafter, becoming overly defensive to protect himself and his loved ones, while deep down harboring a desperate need for love and affection. Growing up without a stable parental figure, he felt responsible for his two younger sisters Diana and Emily, with whom he shared a powerful magical bond which only grew stronger as the three of them got older. Presently, he operates a magical shop with the two of them, where they offer tarot readings. Salem's assumed responsibly for his remaining family also led to him developing a fair bit of stress and anxiety, which he relieves by spending nights drinking and mingling at the local taverns. While he believes his nightly outings to be a secret from his sisters (not wanting to ruin his status as an excellent role model, or so he thinks), he isn't particularly good at hiding it. In his spare time he also researches spirits and the afterlife, a fascination he's had since a young age. He hopes to someday be able to communicate with the other side.
