Mrs. Kari

FULL NAME Alejandra Kari

AGE 49

GENDER Cis woman

PRONOUNS she/her

ORIENTATION Straight

RACE/ETHNICITY Mexican

Alejandra is a stoic and ambitious woman. A talented painter, she promised herself her career would always be her #1 goal. As a result, she isn't the best mother, and fails to be an active part of her children's lives.

Alejandra and her husband Amir got together and had their first kid relatively young. Despite early motherhood, she still pursued her career and hoped to make something of herself.

She is disappointed that she and her husband failed to properly raise their children. She never wanted for her firstborn to be given a prison sentence or for her youngest to die, and she carries a lot of this guilt as she gets older, becoming more and more cognizant of her failures as a mother.

She likes cocktails and traveling. She dislikes intimacy, restrictions, frogs, and the cold. She is 5'11".

Amir

Husband | Man | 48

They met when they were in college, bonding over a similar perspective on life. They both wanted to just "live", whatever that may entail. While Alejandra was an ambitious creative, Amir had a passion for basketball. As they aged, these dreams and pursuits would falter as they realised they were parents, too.

As a couple, they function like life partners. Their relationship isn't especially romantic or sexual, but they are both content with this. They trust and respect each other and don't really desire anything more than what they have. Out of the two of them, Amir will be the one who occasionally wonders what it would be like to be in a passionate marriage, but he's still content with how things are.

Andrew

Son | Man | 30

Born when his parents were 19 and 18, Andrew was brought up in a home that didn't necesarily want him there. He was unplanned, but so was his sister, so that didn't particularly sting when he learned of it later in life. Alejandra had read Andrew as being an independent child, and so freely left him to his own devices. This backfired, for the most part.

As a thirty year-old man, Andrew does not carry the resentment he once held for his parents. He used to hate them, but this dissatisfaction was able to dissipate partly due to the jading effect of his prison stay. He also came to understand that his parents were just teenagers when they had him, and clearly didn't know what they were doing. Still, he was a bit frustrated they didn't seem to have learned their lesson with Nessa, given she was raised only slightly better than him.

Nessa

Daughter | Woman | 18 †

When Alejandra learned she was pregnant in the dawn of her thirties, she decided to continue the pregnancy, knowing she wouldn't be able to for much longer. Like her first child, Nessa was not planned (clearly). As Nessa grew, Alejandra was happy to have a child who expressed interest in the arts (even if it was through studying its history, not actually partaking in it).

Nessa probably only developed her interest in art history due to her mother being completely immersed in the subject. She doesn't view her parents as caring much about her and ignore them as much as they do her.

Janiyah

Daughter's friend | Woman | 17

When their daughter befriended Janiyah, Nessa's parents were happy she had a friend. They appreciate her quiet and respectful nature, mostly attributing any teenage behavior she's a part of (like sneaking out or staying up late) to be Nessa's own influence.

Janiyah is a bit intimidated by Nessa's parents, but doesn't have any negative feelings towards them. She's suspicious, due to Nessa's disposition towards them, but they're nice to her regardless.

When learning that their daughter's friends, along with some other local kids, supposedly ran off, they became fearful. They were worried it was a repeat of what happened last time, where instead of their disappearance being some act of rebellion, it was instead a red herring for their deaths. They were thankful that their remaining son suddenly (to them) became responsible and sought after them, even encouraging him to do so.

Living in the town that they did, the Karis knew that Vincent (as they knew him) was a strange kid. Despite one of the landlords in town claiming to be his guardian, they had heard nothing of the teen's existence before recent memory. They did not know anything significant regarding Isolde, though she reminded them of Nessa based on what they did know.
