OVERVIEW

The island of Vakaro is a tropical island, far off the coast of Chile and Peru in the Pacific Ocean. It is about the size of Spain, with a population of approximately 25 million residents. Of these residents, they are almost entirely native Makar, with a small selective population of Tanapurians in modern times. These Tanapurians reside in an ambassador capacity, or are scholars aiding in the training of Makar Alchemists.

The Island

Vakaro is a massive island, prone to a tropical storm season. It is a flush, volcanic island, with Mount Kredus nestled on the northern-central region. It is an active volcano, but has not erupted in many decades. The presence of this volcano has resulted in varying climates, including cooler mountainous regions, warmer valleys and plains, and flush humid jungles. Flora and fauna are as exotic and as varied as an entire continent, with species unseen by the rest of the world in centuries, if ever at all. Minerals are a prevalent resource, including a generous source of gold and precious stones that can sell well at market in the rest of the world.

As an island, every coast is surrounded in the warm Pacific Ocean. Beaches range from soft white sands to high jagged cliffs, and many coastal areas are built up with defensive measures against tropical storms. The capitol city of Vakaro is near the eastern coast, a massive city of power and revere, with easy access to port. Beyond the capitol, cities and towns are scattered about the island and connected by mapped trails and roads. An artificial, man-made network of rivers also connect many major cities, allowing for convenient trade and travel by ship.
