Rigel is a victim of memory-induced psychosis, a condition caused by the faulty memory therapies he received as a teenager. Although now in remission, he still experiences episodes of identity dissociation.
Rigel's gentle soul makes him highly attuned to the emotions of others, so he often bears immense guilt over situations outside of his control. Despite his timid and insecure nature, he radiates with charisma as a result of his clever wit - which quickly earns him the favor of others. Rigel's intentions are mostly genuine, but sometimes it can be difficult to tell whether or not his kindness is only a mask to conceal ulterior motives. While he easily reads others, he maintains a wall of privacy and mystery around himself.
In his free time and under the radar, Rigel studies classical methods of psychoanalysis in order to offer unorthodox therapies for people with memory problems. He doesn't necessarily have any interest in the practice itself, but he finds solace in helping others overcome their troubled minds.
Although it's a condition that he's had since childhood, Rigel has only recently realized (due to memory problems) that he's blind in his left eye. His tendency to cover it with his hair is a self-conscious effort to prevent other people from noticing his disability.
As the leader of the relatively new and modest Division 8, Rigel organizes all team missions and directs the group toward VERITAS's goals. Most of the time though, he acts as a mediator for his two teammates who have conflicting views...

Background
In the year 2113, modern technology has achieved the digitization of human memories, allowing them to be created, destroyed, and stored like files. Memory therapy has become a common and expected practice in the urban region of Hong Kong. While the general public maintains carefree lives as a result of these treatments, the government wields total control over both memory clinics and memory banks - and no one questions its authority. Within the shadows of this society, the rebel group VERITAS sows seeds of revolution. They are a band of misfits, victims of the system who believe that the government is erasing its citizens and rewriting the truth.
Biography
Raised in Hong Kong by loving parents, Rigel enjoyed a picturesque upbringing. But at the age of 16, he began recalling memories of another family, including an older sister that he didn't have... Eventually, the memories became hallucinations, and when he could no longer separate them from reality, he turned to substance abuse in order to cope. Years later, the VERITAS group took him in, helping him slowly heal.
Unbeknownst to Rigel, he actually spent his childhood in America, with an unstable mother. In an attempt to protect him, his sister brought him to a charity memory clinic, where they erased his traumatic past and set him up for integration into a new family. Unfortunately, the charity clinic's practices were crude and risky - once Rigel's memories returned to him, he fell victim to severe psychosis.
Although Rigel still has both sets of memories, the details feel hazy and confusing. He can't tell which ones are real, and that discomforts him. Sometimes, he wonders if his existence is entirely fabricated.
Locke Yuen
[ teammate ] A close ally who helps Rigel through his memory trauma. For complicated reasons, Rigel harbors heavy remorse in regards to Locke's condition, feeling a deep obligation to protect him and find his lost memories.
Rei Tsang
[ teammate ] Rigel has absolute faith in Rei and her abilities. He keeps her grounded and often acts as her voice of reason. However, he is reluctant to inform Rei of his past, worried that it may sway her loyalty to him and his leadership.
