He works very hard in both school and cooking, therefore he gets very little sleep. He does put others before himself but only his friends, if they need anything he'll help the best he can. He is very calculating and precise which is how he can do well in his career path. His father wanted him to go into the medical feild but he blatantly disaggreed and chose to cook instead. He dyed his hair green and peirced his ears as a symbol of rebellion, he doesn't want to go down his fathers chosen path.

Ethan grew up in a very conservative upperclass family. His father is a rich Asian businessman, and his mother an American Lawyer. His father had a very specific life he wanted Ethan to lead, he was to go to private school and then to a medical college to become a neurosurgeon. Ethan didn't like having his whole life planned so he appealed to his mother and begged to go to a public highschool, he promised to get good grades and to participate in after school activities. His mother allowed him that, she felt guilty for allowing Jin Soo(her husband) to keep him pent up for so long. Her parents were hard on her as well and she wanted him to enjoy his life. In public school, Ethan met Elizabeth and Stacey, two best friends who worked very hard. They both had parents in the working class but he didn't care, they truly cared about him. However, his father didn't approve of the friendship. He believed they'd use Ethan for his money, he forced Ethan to only surround himself with upperclass students. Without them, Ethan became depressed, he wanted to prove he was his own person. One night he sneaked out and got his ears peirced and his hair dyed green. His father was so disappointed with him and his mother asked him why, why would he go against his father like that.

He said he wanted to be in control and to do what he loved, to be with people who made him feel happy. His mother sympathized with his dedication and convinced his father to allow him to be with his friends again, in return Ethan had to do well in school and continue to focus on activities that would allow him better chances in college. Ethan had developed an interest in cooking from a young age, the cook would allow him to help her with dishes they prepared for dinner. He had a knack for it, it was clear he enjoyed it too. He entered a cooking club in highschool, soon arose an opportunity for an internship at a very high eng resteraunt in LA, 71Above. He was able to secure the internship through a very competitive competition. His mother was so proud while his father ignored him and stayed in his office. Ethan was confident in his choice with the help of Elizabeth and Stacey who supported him all the way.
