The first vision from Starclan that Fernwillow(Fernpaw at the time) receives warns of a great danger that would bring about the downfall of her clan from the inside. Because of the prophecy's warning, she first believes that Swanstar himself may be the danger, but fails to see how he could bring any harm to his clan. After a chance encounter, however, she learns that her own mentor and Swanstar's littermate is who Starclan has warned her about.

Fernwillow was quite clumsy as a kit, due largely to the disproportionate size of her paws. But she eventually grew into them, and with the added practice of collecting and sorting herbs, she became exceedingly careful and more aware of her size.
