Bao is a Lucid who grew up with her grandparents within the Inner City of Nevers and, outside of school hours, she helps them run their a little cafe on the ground floor of a small apartment complex. Growing up, she was encouraged to take up a variety of activities and skill sets, but found a passion for the visual arts. Having been diagnosed with autism during her early school years, she was pulled out of the graduating program and placed into special classes that helped her to better explore and understand her strengths and passions.

It wasn't until meeting Mae Bellamy at the age of fourteen that Bao's love of art began to refine itself into an intense interest for street art and graffiti. Mae had introduced the world of graffiti art to Bao as a way of relating to the only thing Bao seemed capable of talking about at the time. Since then, their shared interests have spread to musical tastes and dubious use of city property as gymnastic equiptment. Bao regards Mae as her "girlfriend" in the romantic sense, and while Mae has convinced herself that "teen dating" is a waste of time, she accepted her assigned role in Bao's life with quiet enthusiasm.

Ongoing Story

Bao invests a lot of time into producing beautiful murals on the sides of buildings in lieu of a more lawful outlet. She's found herself fleeing from law officers on more than one occassion, and is yet to ever be caught.

Despite her questionable creative outlet, Bao tries her best to keep her nose out of trouble. Unfortunately, she's not much of a leader and finds herself easily convinced into accompanying Mae in dangerous activities that she'd otherwise prefer to avoid. She tries her best to guide Mae into making wiser choices, but the rambunctious girl just never seems to listen. Mae isn't the only devil on her shoulder, however. In recent days, Gideon DuPlessis has taken a liking to Bao's artistic talents, and has offered her a paying gig that will see her working well beneath the law...

Personality

Bao has never been much of a speaker, and has adapted her Avatar to do most of the communicating for her. She carries a mature and orderly air about her, but it isn’t uncommon for the activities she partakes in to betray her age, especially in Mae’s company.
She’s very much a ‘think before you do’ kind of person, and has a habit of carefully premeditating her actions. She handles responsibility well and time and time again has proven her reliablility.

Sleepers, Dreamers, and Lucids (oh my!)

In this world, there are three kinds of people. Sleepers are those who preceive the world as it is intended to be seen. They see nothing peculiar, nothing "out of the ordinary". Dreamers, on the other hand, see a great deal more. They are often dismissed as having an "overactive imagination" at best, or as "crazy" and "paranoid" at worst. They see things for which there is no "real world" explaination...and often try to find an explaination themselves. "Ghosts", "aliens", "demons" and some wide assortment of conspiracy theories are often the work of a dreamer trying to make sense of the largely unpreceived world around them. What they don't know is that these inexplicable, almost tangible distortions of reality are the work of Lucids.

Lucids make up a small fraction of the human population. They are innately capable of producing convincing illustions, distorting the world around them to their liking. For the most part, these illusions, while convincing, have no effect on the physical world. There are...exceptions...rare exceptions. The extent of physical manefestations seems to be very limited and to a Sleeper observer, may appear as small telekentic feats. You know the sort; bending a spoon, lighting a candle, filling the air with hair-raising static... little more than that. To a Dreamer (as well as to fellow Lucids), the illusions produced by a Lucid can appear so convincingly real that, even though it cannot cause physical harm, it can still pose as a significant psychological and emotional threat. And so, in cities like Nevers where Lucids tend to congregate, a secret governing system is established between them. Exceptionally potent Lucids are assigned roles as Matriarchs and Patriarchs of allocated districts and are granted administrative powers over a localized infastructure designed to police the activities of the Lucids living under their jurisdiction.

All Lucids manifest a perminant, illusionary extention of themselves. These are called Avatars, and will often take on a form that is psychologically significant to its respective Lucid. When a Lucid becomes a Matriarch or Patriarch, it is expected that they "extend" their Avatar to blanket their district. The result being that every district under the watch of a Matriarch or Patriarch will have an appearance unique to the style of its specific overseer.

Bao's Avatar

At first glance, Bao appears to have no avatar of her own ...but then, the piece of graffiti behind her reshapes into a new phrase or image in a response to a question, and that's "One-Liner". One-Liner appears on any surface that would be able to accomodate real graffiti, and the colorful phrases and imagery it can produce is endless and ever changing. Bao herself is largely non-verbal, and One-Liner typically does all the communicating for her. After all, one picture is worth a thousand words.
