Mariner

Mariner is gruff and unforgiving, but his intentions are pure. He harbours a deep-seated fear of being abandoned, which leads him to consistently discourage other dragon’s attempts to become friends with him. Like all Stormcutters, he’s very fast and agile in the air. He is incredibly talented at reading the stars and predicting weather patterns, and unusually for a Sharp-class dragon, is a skilled swimmer. He has a short temper and a habit of dismissing questions before he’s even heard them, but if given the chance, he would sacrifice anything to help a dragon in need.

When Mariner was just a baby, too young to even remember his name, his mother took him out for his first flying lesson, but the weather quickly became unpredictable and turned sour. Mariner was separated from his mother in the storm and blown to a distant island, too far to fly to from any other piece of land in normal weather conditions. He grew up on the island, hiding and watching on the rare occasion that another dragon arrived, and teaching himself how to fish, hunt, swim, and most importantly, fly. Every day he trained himself until, after many years, he was finally strong enough to reach the next island in the chain, and so make his way back to the island where he flew from that fateful day. His mother, however, was long gone, having given up on ever finding him, and Mariner was too young at the time of the storm to remember which island he was hatched on. Lacking any better options, he returned to the island, where he carved out a reputation as a skilled navigator, seafarer, fisher-dragon and trader. His birth name was lost to him all those years ago, so he is known as The Mariner, or simply Mariner.
