rewrote his backstory to fit with the new age set of the sea kids - generally most of it is the same!
Born as Connor Blatt, his father (???) was a respectable knight and his mother (Louisa Blatt) a nurse. His father was caught in what was presumed to be a fatal 'accident' outside of the kingdom when Connor was only about 2 years old. He has no memories of his biological father at all.
Following the passing of his father, Connor's mother's health deteriorated to a point he would sometimes be left in the care of his parents' friend Maka (who also had a daughter, Maia).
To keep him somewhere safe, Connor was enrolled into preschool, with a view to have him train as a knight when he was old enough. It was somewhere around this point that his nickname 'Blade' came into use - somewhere there was a misunderstanding and it was just assumed he had an unusual name.
At around age 6, 'Blade' started to wander off instead of going to class. He somehow managed to wander far enough to get lost and injured, though not badly. He was lucky enough to be spotted and taken to be patched up by a kind stranger, who happened to have a son around the same age. The two boys became friends and every time Blade would wander a little too far they would end up seeing eachother again. As they got a bit older they decided on a meeting spot, and Blade would skip school more and more frequently to see his friends. As a result of this he ended up being put into extra one-to-one classes, taught by Gray.
At around age 13 Blade lost his mother, and was taken in by Maka. The distress caused by this combined with scolding from his teachers led to Blade redoubling his efforts in school. He officially moved onto the junior knights training course, but being absent so frequently beforehand meant he didn't really have any friends (his only friends lived outside of the kingdom, and he hadn't been able to visit much with the amount of catching up he had to do). He developed a more stoic expression so the other kids wouldn't tease him for being upset about being on his own.
He had his first encounter with the crown prince while practicing on his own in the training grounds. After the first conversation the two kept bumping into eachother (or, the prince would visit the training grounds and Blade just happened to be there) and a few years later Blade found himself positioned as the prince's personal guard. At this point they were already familiar and on friendly terms with eachother, but Blade found himself paranoid he might slip up and find himself in serious trouble.
Another small chunk of years later Blade is still wary of making mistakes, but his relationship with prince Xain has developed into something romantic and he's a lot more relaxed compared to when he first got the job. He's also become close friends with Phantom, as well as reuniting with his childhood friends.
notes:
- has a tendency to overwork himself thanks to his years spent slacking (and then the following years spent trying to catch up - he also has a habit of seeing himself as inferior and comparing to others too much)
- most of his free time is spent exercising
- he isn't stupid, but he thinks slowly (makes a lot of mistakes when trying to write quickly, for example)
- hides behind a stoic/stern expression when he's upset, can't stand the thought of crying in front of someone and being teased (even if it's someone that wouldn't do that)
- easy to get along with
