From a very young age, Nahoko loved to learn, eagerly reading anything presented to her or watching anything educational on TV. One day while she was sick at home, bored out of her wits and idly channel surfing, she stumbled upon a foreign film channel. Immediately she was mesmerized by how smoothly words from another language could flow as well as if they were her own and yet still be drastically different from the ones she’d known. She spent the rest of her days in bed avidly watching film after film, sometimes understanding the plot, sometimes not but enjoying the sound of a different tongue nonetheless. As soon as she could leave the house, she went to the library and began studying the languages she’d heard that day. While doing so, she discovered just how vast languages could be-and how amazing they could be as well. She threw herself into studying as many languages as she could, eager to be able to uncover all the mechanics behind each one. Her reputation as an aspiring linguist with dreams of working around the world spread like wildfire, catching the attention of many exchange schools, even those not in Japan. It wasn’t long before, an invitation to study abroad in a gifted student’s exchange program in Paris came to her in the mail. She immediately accepted, and her new life of going from school to school, country to country began. While there, she learnt several things: different cultures, multiple study tactics, how to act in a social situation, and how the rest of the world viewed each other amongst other things. The most important thing she gained from this program, in her opinion was her decision to pursue linguistics as a career choice. With that notion planted firmly into her head, she signed up for as many exchange programs as she could when she got home, desperate for knowledge. Eventually, she decided to consider staying in Japan for a year to study there for a while. Her plan was to either take online classes for some prestigious school overseas as well as attend whatever school would accept her until the invitation to Hope’s Peak came in the mail. Knowing that it was a highly reputable school and that graduating from there would bring great success as well as a more-than-solid future to her, she accepted and began preparing for her new school life.
