elianus livius

Born to a loving, albeit doomed, family, Elianus was but one of five: four other brothers and one sister. They were born into a lush jungle pride, led by a fair and just family. Elianus' parents were longterm lovers who'd finally found peace—within this pride and within themselves. Starting a family seemed the next, logical, step and so they welcomed their children into the world. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. Sickness takes them while Elianus is young, and he and his siblings were raised mostly by themselves—or others.

Both parents die when he is a teenager: awkward and gangly and grief-striken. His siblings, too, are lost to the wind—two of the five leave the pride, and he never sees them again. His remaining two siblings are scarce and Elianus learns, from a young age, what lonenliness feels like. Such an upbringing leaves him lonely and jaded through his troubled teenage years.

His one saving grace is a girl. About his age, she lives in this same jungle pride. Adopted by the king, she is but one of many children sired by him: her siblings are numerous beyond counting. Yet she is an outlier among them: she is not biologically related to anyone else, and she is blind. Elianus stumbles upon her, Kachiri, many times through his childhood—each time their outings are soft and sweet. A rare bright spot in his otherwise dark, lonely existence.

With time comes familiarity, and that familiarity breeds affection. He falls for her like the sun follows the moon. They have their shares of ups and downs, but make no mistake: Kachiri saved him, in every way a person can be saved. She is the one constant in his life and it is her who his life revolves around.
