"That’s Captain Astra to you!"

Astra is a Starman Super part of Giegue/Giygas' army, who was given the job of locating all the Sanctuaries in the original timeline present in 200X: Melody of the Variable. He is an antagonist in said fanfic.

Personality

Astra is very full of himself. His bark is worse than his bite. He's much too dependent on the members of his squadron to back him up, and never fights anyone himself. If the opposition gets help and he doesn't, he quickly loses his confidence. He thinks that everyone agrees with him unless they say otherwise, and thinks he can speak up against those higher ranking than him just because he's got a special job of finding the Sanctuaries.

Story

Before 200X: Melody of the Variable

Astra was originally a member of the Ru-nuun army, having served Rueneeg from 1765 to 1976. He was transferred to Giegue's army, the Gysienn army, in preparation for the first Earth invasion. He fought against the humans and was lucky enough to survive. He took part in the second invasion in a much bigger way. He was given his own squadron and the title of Captain, and took over a portion of Foggyland. After the full conquering of Earth, he and his Starmen were stationed at the Autumns base to guard the Apple of Enlightenment.

200X: Melody of the Variable

Captain Astra was alerted to intruders in the Autumns base, and headed out with a couple of Starmen to stop them when they thought they were safe. He suffered an embarrasing defeat at their hands and the the hands of several bold teenagers from Autumns who had decided to dogpile him, and the adult humans that had been abducted and taken to the base escaped.

Not long after this defeat, Captain Astra was called to Starman Stronghold. He told of the spots on the earth that had huge amounts of power. These points were being visited by someone, and something was happening there that was distressing Giygas. Astra was put in charge of finding out where these points were, and given special accessories to differentiate him from the other Starman Supers. He found the group visiting the Sanctuaries at Giant Step, and with the help of some Starmen from his squadron, succeeded in capturing them and took them to the underground base in Winters. However, they escaped from their cells and broke out all the humans that had been placed in the Zanuman conversion tubes.

Astra headed to the Starman Stronghold again with a Starman Junior, Elex, to get him limb extensions. While he was there, he told General Genesis about the group that had been visiting the Sanctuaries and escaped from the Winters base, and argued that Giygas should be warned about them. Genesis, however, believed that he was exaggerating.

Captain Astra and Elex returned to Winters. Things were quiet for a while, until Astra got orders to bring the Apple of Enlightenment back to its home on Saturn. He gathered up his squadron and sent them there. Astra was convinced that the group that had visited the Sanctuaries would arrive on Saturn as well, and was proven right. He stuck around, and later heard about a big announcement. He decided to attend, if only for the gossip. He was found there by General Genesis, who took him and Elex back to the Starman Stronghold so Astra could send the locations of the Sanctuaries back into the past to Giygas.

General Genesis

Tense
After their argument in the Starman Stronghold, Astra formed a not-so-great opinion of General Genesis. He only begrudgingly follows his orders when given because of his much higher rank.

Trivia

• Astra was inspired by the fact that the Starman Supers in EarthBound have a 1/128 chance of dropping the Sword of Kings, and was originally intended to obtain it at one point during 200X: MotV.
• Astra has a fear of the green tubes that Giygas uses to turn humans into Zanumans. This comes from the fact that he was the Starman that happened to get pounced on by the infamous malformed Zanuman from 1864.
