Airi was born in Kyria to one of the most well-regarded courtesans in the Northern District. It was a difficult birth, and she died shortly after, but the other courtesans continued to work together to raise him. Though he was initially expected to continue his mother's legacy, as he grew up it quickly became clear that he lacked both her beauty and her charm. He instead began working various odd jobs once he was old enough and had quite the talent for both thievery and fighting.

Airi is stoic and mature, to the point where it's almost always impossible to tell what he's thinking. He's not the type for idle chatter, and will rarely say much more than absolutely necessary. Most of his relationships are rather distant, but he has a small core group of people who he cares about deeply and is fiercely protective of them. While he tends to get quickly irritated with strangers, he's surprisingly nurturing and patient with those he cares about. Because he feels the need to be responsible for those around him he tends to be a very serious, no-nonsense person. While he does occasionally show a sense of humor, it's so deadpan it's often hard to tell when he's joking.
