about

Cyrus Blythe, more commonly addressed as King Cyrus, has been the king of F'allis since he was a young tom. The strain of his office has taken its toll on him, of course, and it has created a cat who is very intense in nature. He is no longer a young tom, and while he is not elderly he's certainly greying at the muzzle and has worn lines around his eye. Cyrus is, despite all his role brings, a cat who places the good of his kingdom first and foremost. He is very strict in his adherence to the rules, and always operates by placing himself in the same position as those below him. When it comes to wartime, he's on the frontlines with his soldiers. When an execution is taking place, he makes sure he's the one who ends their life.

Despite this, Cyrus is also a very doting father, with a gentle heart. His two children are the light of his life, even if they give him migraines sometimes, and he has always been more involved than a typical male monarch. He cares very deeply about making sure his kingdom and subjects are well cared for, whatever that's worth coming from a king. He aims to rule fairly but firmly, without using an iron fist.

story

Prince Cyrus Blythe was born to the king and queen of F'allis during a time of relative tension due to the current emperor. His mother was the one who carried the bloodline of the throne, and Cyrus' father was the King Consort- king only in title until such time as his mate passed away. The names of his royal parents were Queen Ikaia and King Zion. They had one child older than Cyrus, Prince Pai, who was two years his senior. Over time, Cyrus would be given three younger siblings as well- two sisters and a brother Princess Hekate, Princess Katya, and Prince Rui. The latter two were twins. They were not far behind him in age- Hekate was two years younger, Katya and Rui five years younger.

In addition to his family, Cyrus had several other children growing up in the castle around him that he knew. He was closest with the young ladies Saga and Amelia, as they were the closest in age to him. All of Pai's friends stuck with him, and so Cyrus tended to resort to slightly younger friends, or the ladies of the F'allis Court.

That being said, Saga was no simple Lady. She was the heir to the entire empire, only daughter of their Emperor Julius. Julius was... not a kind ruler, and he was not a kind father, either. Cyrus was acutely aware of this fact from the time he was a tiny tom, watching as Saga was dragged from the room crying to endure another brutal training session.

His mother, Queen Ikaia, was not the greatest mother herself, but at least she never hurt her children. Cyrus always preferred the mother who had birthed them and then pawned them off on the nearest milkmaid to suckle and grow until they were old enough and well mannered enough to begin training for their positions to their Emperor. Whenever he saw Julius, he was filled with an uncomfortable anger and protectiveness towards Saga... but what could he do? After all, he was their emperor, and Saga was the High Princess... and Cyrus wasn't even the Crown Prince.

It didn't stop him, though, from a childish solution. They were children, not more than 7 when Cyrus proposed the idea. Get married- him and Saga. She could be a ruler here, instead of the empress, and she'd be away from her father's grasp! They could get married in secret as soon as they were old enough, and then there would be nothing that Julius could do to "remedy" the situation.

Saga agreed, and their plan settled between them. Cyrus was too oblivious to notice the fading of the smile on Amelia's face when they told her their plan in secret, or the pain in her expression when she saw how close Cyrus and Saga were compared to even with herself. He had never been great at matters of the heart, and this extended to his relationships with his best friends.

Ten years passed.

Saga was torn from her friends in a brutal act of punishment by Emperor Julius, to whom she had told her plan to marry Cyrus, a plan that had lasted the test of time for a whole decade, a plan fostered in the hearts of children now carried into the hearts of young adults. Him? Not even the crown prince? And even if he had been, abdicating her rank as future Empress for the lowly title of Queen? Julius would not stand for it, and so he took her away from F'allis. It would be the last time Cyrus saw her for a very long time.

Prince Pai had come of age and passed it, and Cyrus was only a year from it, when King Zion passed away in his sleep one night. It was unclear, the cause, perhaps a heart attack or an aneurysm that had taken him from them in an instant before he had even realized it. Cyrus had been left with only his friend Amelia to confide in, but his time even with her began to dwindle sharply.

It became clear to their entire family that Queen Ikaia had, for all her flaws as a mother, deeply loved her husband. She grew ill in his absence, and made no effort to fight off the sickness that lingered in her bones, and her heart, and her mind.

Work on the upkeep of the kingdom fell to her eldest three children and their advisors. She was too proud to abdicate her position, but she was also unfit to do most of the work, barely able to sign things from her bed. Prince Pai, Prince Cyrus, and even the merely 15 year old Princess Hekate did the majority of the drafting and enacting of policies, the enforcing of laws, the making of decisions. It was all Queen Ikaia could do to put their work into motion with her word.

However, tragedy struck again when after an evening ride to unwind, Prince Pai did not return. Search parties were sent out on Cyrus' orders, and he was eventually found... barely clinging to life where he had fallen down a large cliff, thrown from his horse's back.

Pai was in a comatose state for days after. The healers said that if he ever woke up, he would be paralyzed from the chest down, and they weren't certain if his mental faculties were intact. It was a mixed blessing and curse that Pai never did wake up for them to have to find out. After nearly a month of steady decline deeper into his coma, he simply stopped breathing, passing away peacefully.

Queen Ikaia followed him just after Cyrus' coming of age ceremony. There wasn't much of a ceremony, or a celebration, he simply felt his birthday come and go just like that. And all at once, the newly 18-year-old was left in charge of a kingdom all on his own, with only the advisors from his late mother's reign to help him.

King Cyrus was crowned about a month later, and the Five Kingdoms over which he ruled entered a revolt. Spurred by deep seated anger at how their empire was being run by Emperor Julius, and the fear of a new, untested, barely old enough to rule king taking their throne, the battles would prove to be vicious and unyielding.

Cyrus knew what he had to do. He prepared to lead his army to war, but as he was settling the final details, Amelia appeared before him.

She confessed to him her deep and undying love, and begged him not to go. Cyrus was confused, and so deeply muddled by the pain of losing both his parents and his eldest brother in such a short period of time that he didn't have a proper response. He simply mumbled that he had to, and turned away from her.

But he didn't miss her last words to him, that he had better not die in these conflicts.

The battlefield was unlike anything Cyrus had ever experienced. No amount of bookwork and training with his battle instructors could have prepared him for it. The bloodshed was intense, but Cyrus did not forget Amelia's words the entire time.

He nearly lost his life several times, but when all was said and done, Cyrus was alive, and he returned home victorious, having proven to all who had revolted or ever questioned him that he was a competent and quick witted leader who would not fail his kingdom. Who would not fail to protect them, even if he was protecting them from themselves.

The first thing he did on returning home was find Amelia and confess to her that he loved her back, and he intended to make her his wife.

There was lots of happy crying that night, and he announced their betrothal publicly the following morning. Not long before their 20th birthdays, they became husband and wife.

Five years passed, and Amelia announced their first pregnancy. Their daughter, the new Crown Princess Florabelle, was born when they were 25. Not long after, Emperor Julius was killed by assassins during a gala.

King Cyrus and Queen Amelia made their plans and made sure they got to Lohikk in time to see their childhood friend crowned Empress Saga of Lohikk and the Five Kingdoms. It was a happy time of being reunited, if a short one. They had to return home, but not before Amelia badgered Saga into agreeing to become their child's godmother.

Two years later, after a harrowing second pregnancy, Amelia gave birth to Tobias, their son and second child... unfortunately, however, in the process of labor she lost her life. While Tobias was saved, Cyrus was widowed at 27 years of age.

He affixed their mother's last name to both of his children as well as his own- Florabelle and Tobias Blythe-Calder. Forever her last name would live on in her memory. Cyrus struggled to be a good father while also ruling his kingdom, and he corresponded with Saga as often as he could to relieve some of the pain in his chest. He had loved Amelia deeply, and understood why Queen Ikaia had been so broken at the loss of his father.

However, he could not let his kingdom fall into ruin again. Not when things were looking to be on the up and up. So Cyrus worked hard, and what free time he had he spent in the company of his children. It could not be said that he was a bad father, for it was clear how deeply he doted on them both. It saddened him greatly when the time for fun was over, and they had to begin learning to be rulers like him.

Time passed, and tensions with one of the kingdoms, Dune's Hold, and F'allis grew. Cyrus was frustrated, and preparing to go to war, but he knew it was best if they did not. In a last ditch effort, he offered his now 20 year old daughter's hand in marriage to the 21 year old heir to Dune's Hold. The honorable Lady Tema agreed, and a union was formed once more, circumventing another civil war.

Florabelle is proving to be Cyrus' greatest challenge yet, raising a whirlwind like her into a well behaved and presentable lady of such an esteemed court, but he continues to try his best, oblivious to the struggle his youngest is going through as well.

Ru3npF4.png
Saga
Best Friend

Saga is his best friend from childhood. They remain close, and she is the godmother to his children. While their duties keep them apart, they easily click when they are reunited. When they were children, they were in love but their roles and duties forced them apart and they submitted for the greater good. She remains, to Cyrus, the one who got away.

Ru3npF4.png
Amelia Calder
Deceased Wife

Amelia was Cyrus' wife, and the mother to his two children. She passed away during the birth of their second child, Toby. It absolutely shattered Cyrus' heart to lose his wife- she was incredibly important to him, and while she wasn't his first love, the love he held for her was true and deeply ingrained in him. He adored her and her loyalty, her strong will... and he adores the children she gave him still. She was the light in his life and without her he feels lost.

Ru3npF4.png
Florabelle Blythe-Calder
Daughter and Heir

Flora is Cyrus' heir, and his only daughter. She is, in turn, his most troublesome child, and the one who provides him most of his headaches. She brings him great stress and worries him, but he loves her unconditionally and only wants what is best for her. He just wishes she considered what he knows is best to be best for herself.

Ru3npF4.png
Tobias Blythe-Calder
Son

Toby is Cyrus' son, his second child and only son. He is the easier of the two children, but brings about his own challenges in that he overworks himself greatly. His health is not the best, and this worries Cyrus rather severely. His wife passed in Toby's birth, and Cyrus can't bear the idea of losing his other child to an illness or something similar. He wishes Toby would take more time for himself. He has a strong bond with his son because he raised him mostly singlehandedly after Amelia passed.

Ru3npF4.png
Aiken
Florabelle's Betrothed

While Cyrus doesn't dislike Aiken, he also doesn't feel the greatest about him. He worries about having Flora engage in an arranged marriage since it is so clearly not her style, but it's the way of the world. He would if she was too opposed, give her an out of course. Otherwise, though, Aiken he views as a young tom with a lot of potential, even without a strong power.

Ru3npF4.png
Amma Calder
Sister in Law

Amma is the sister of Cyrus' late wife, Amelia. She has always refused any recognition as being connected to the royal family in any significant fashion, so Cyrus tends to introduce her as Lady Amma to be sure she isn't treated as a servant or someone below them. He appreciates her assistance and kind heart, and knows that without her the loss of Amelia would have been all the harder on his children. He often confides in her about the children, as she is in a unique position to understand his struggles with them and he knows she won't be judgmental of his worries, while also not being terribly passive simply because he is the king.

Ru3npF4.png
Derrick
Member of the King's Guard

Sir Derrick is a guard on Cyrus' staff who the king finds particular amusement in. In possession of a passive quirk, unlike Cyrus, the king often asks to have him join in on important meetings to ascertain if information is correct and the like, as manipulation quirks would have no affect on him. He also finds something soothing about how Derrick is calm most of the time, given Cyrus is chronically stressed.

Ru3npF4.png
Hekate Blythe
Sister

Hekate is Cyrus' younger sister, by two years. She was the first of his siblings born after him, so he was excited to get to know her even if they aren't close. He treasures her insights still, as he knows she is a deeply gifted politician and learned from the same mother he did.

Ru3npF4.png
Pai Blythe
Deceased Brother

Pai was Cyrus' eldest sibling, the only one older than him and the first heir to the throne. Unfortunately, Pai was killed in a devestating accident when he was only 19 years old and Cyrus only 17. Cyrus deeply misses his brother, and sometimes wishes that Pai could have been king instead of him. He often wonders if his brother would have been better at it.

Ru3npF4.png
Ikaia Blythe
Deceased Mother

Cyrus knows that his mother wasn't the greatest at what she did, that she probably wouldn't have had kids if her job didn't require her to produce heirs, but he also greatly looks up to the way she ruled her kingdom and he believes he learned much from her, both good and bad.

Ru3npF4.png
Zion Blythe
Deceased Father

Cyrus knows his father wasn't the brightest torch on the walls, but he also credits him with teaching him just about everything he knows about parenting. Zion was the parent he was closest to, and he misses his father often even now. However, he can't help but want to remain important to his children after they grow up in a way Zion couldn't with them, and hopes to do better than him in this respect.

Ru3npF4.png
Katya Blythe
Sister

Katya was the firstborn of the twins and Cyrus' five years younger sister. He thinks she's a very smart if sharp tongued lady, and is grateful for her and Rui stepping up when he had to go to war. While he isn't too close with her now, he checks in with her now and again and is glad that she is still joined at the hip with Rui.

Ru3npF4.png
Rui Blythe
Brother

Rui was the secondborn of the twins and Cyrus' five years younger brother as well as his only younger brother. He thinks that he's a very smart if terribly dramatic tom, and is grateful for him and Katya stepping up when he had to go to war. While he isn't too close with him now, he checks in with him now and again and is glad that he is still joined at the hip with Katya.
