about

Aiken is the Young Lord of Dune's Hold, and currently also the betrothed to Princess Florabelle Blythe-Calder of F'allis. Having grown up in Dune's Hold with his home on the verge of a war with F'allis for much of his young life, Aiken has learned to take things in stride and be very hard working and devoted to his land. He wants peace and for this alliance to succeed without throwing them into a true war where lives would be lost. Despite this, a small childish part of him is upset with being the one who has to take this upon himself... but as his mother, Lady Tema's only child, he will do his duties.

Aiken prides himself on having fun and enjoying himself and his life despite all its struggles. He is devoted to his job and his duties, but he makes sure to take time for himself in and among it all to enjoy his hobbies as well. He tries to be lighter hearted and unintimidating. There is a part of him that feels very guilty for his genetics, because he is entirely without a quirk, at least one that can be identified. He worries greatly about the future, but is trying to keep his head up as best he can.

story

Aiken was born into Dune's Hold to his mother, the Lady Tema, and father, Lord Azazel. His childhood was spent in the desert being cared for by his doting mother and father, though both were often busy with their work as the lord and lady of the hold. Aiken never minded, he adored his nursemaid who looked after him when he was unable to be watched by his parents- her name was Miss Lyre.

In addition to Miss Lyre, Aiken was often in the company of the other children in the court. His favorite friend was named Rey, a young son of a knight who aimed to be apart of their military as he got older too. Aiken and Rey spent hours at a time pretending to spar and wrestle and play, with swords or just in general. They called it training, though at the time they were still too young for formal training under a mentor.

Time passed, and Aiken grew older. It became clear that he lacked a quirk as the other children's powers became aparent, and he grew a bit self conscious. The Young Lord Aiken of Dune's Hold... quirkless? How could he be a good leader one day if he didn't even have a power?

It was his father who soothed his worries, promising him that he could make up for this perceived lack in other ways and still take those who would underestimate him by surprise. Aiken was only five, but his father began teaching him to ride horses and work with swords. It helped Aiken to feel like he was doing something, and getting better and stronger.

Unfortunately, the time would not last, as one evening after Aiken had turned six, Lord Azazel rode into the hall itself bleeding all over his horse's back. Aiken remembers watching in a stunned and confused horror as Tema screamed and ran for her husband and as the healers helped him off his horse, beginning to work right then and there to try to save his life.

It was gathered that the Lord had been attacked by a group of bandits, and had been severely wounded. Despite the healers doing their best work, he passed away from blood loss that night.

Tensions which had already been beginning to rise between Dune's Hold and F'allis skyrocketed. Lady Tema was angry and heartbroken about her husband, and the way Azazel had been angry with F'allis for the way they ruled things, she followed suit.

For most of the remainder of Aiken's childhood, he was introduced to the tensions of politics on the verge of war. The games played with false pleasantries, the two-faced world they lived in. He never liked it, but he learned to do his best to go with the flow.

He continued learning the sword and horseback riding like Azazel had taught him and the memory of his father faded into a faint blur in the back of his mind. Aiken spent most of his time training in the company of Rey, who soon rose to the rank of Brigaider. They were close if awkward friends.

Then as Aiken neared the age of 20, a proposal was put forth by F'allis' king, King Cyrus.

Young Lord Aiken and his daughter, the crown Princess Florabelle, were of a similar age. Would Dune's Hold be willing to cease the eggshells they walked upon and hostilities in favor of an alliance, a merging of their families? Aiken would be welcomed into the royal family as the future king... consort, at least.

Lady Tema brought the idea to Aiken himself. She explained it and then pressed very hard that it was entirely his choice and he didn't have to do it if he didn't want to.

However, Aiken knew what the right thing to do was. For the sake of avoiding a war, for his home and the place he had been set to rule his entire life's sake, he would abandon them. He would leave Dune's Hold and travel to F'allis and become king consort. Dune's Hold would pass to, instead of him, a distant relative of Tema's, starting a new bloodline.

He would allow himself to be torn away from everything he knew and loved for the sake of his home. He would not let Dune's Hold fall into a war.

Aiken packed his bags, and as a freshly turned 21 year old he travelled to F'allis to meet the king and his betrothed. Upon his arrival, the princess was completely absent, leaving him in the company of only his future brother in law and father in law.

It was awkward to say the least, but Aiken doesn't want his mother to worry... so he had no intention of sending her a letter about his frustrations and discomfort in this new world. He would do what it took to save his home. Even if that meant never returning there again.

Lady Tema
Mother

Lady Tema is Aiken's mother. She raised him basically single handed, given her mate and Aiken's father passed away terribly early in his life, leaving him with few memories of the man. He is very connected to her, and treasures her advice and her thoughts. He knows she worries for him, and he is doing his best to live up to her standards and her own legacy, as well as his fathers. He wants what is best for Dune's Hold as he knows she does as well. He trusts her unconditionally, and is very sad to have had to leave her behind.

Ru3npF4.png
Lord Azazel
Deceased Father

Lord Azazel was Aiken's father. He passed away when Aiken was only six years old- he has very few memories of the man apart from a few hazy images and feelings associated with him. Safety, love, comfort... he remembers hearing Azazel sing him to sleep sometimes when he was particularly young and having nightmares, learning to ride with his father's voice in the distance calling out encouragement and suggestions... and he remembers his funeral, as well. Aiken wants to be like his father, to live up to the cat he was and make him proud, wherever his spirit now resides.

Astrid
Mother's Advisor

Aster was a steady presenece in Aiken's life from the time he was quite small until when he left Dune's Hold for F'allis. He looks up to her much as he does his mother, and finds her advice to be sound the vast majority of the time. While he isn't as close with her as his mother, he does like her and is sad to be leaving her behind in Dune's Hold- though he's glad she'll remain with his mother, keeping an eye on and supporting her.

Ru3npF4.png
Prince Tobias Blythe Calder
Future Brother-in-Law

To put it simply, Aiken isn't sure how he feels about the prince. He seems terribly stuck up and closed off, and Aiken doesn't vibe with that for the most part. He understands that maybe Prince Tobias is overwhelmed with work, but he seems unfriendly and Aiken feels just... offput. He wishes there were more friendly cats in this family he's supposed to be joining, it feels wrong to be addressed by his full title by a tom he's meant to be a family member to soon.

Ru3npF4.png
Princess Florabelle Blythe Calder
Betrothed

Aiken's first impression of Flora is lacking- mainly because he didn't get to recieve one upon his arrival to F'allis. He hopes rather desperately that she'll be a bit friendlier than her brother, because he isn't sure if he's going to survive this betrothal without begging his mother to come home if she's as cold and closed off as Prince Tobias. He wants to do what is best for Dune's Hold, but he is apprehensive about their betrothal only more and more.

Ru3npF4.png
King Cyrus Blythe
Future Father-in-Law

Aiken is, rather rightfully in his opinion, a bit intimidated by King Cyrus. The king is a rather imposing cat in general, and Aiken feels that he pales greatly in comparison to what he wanted for a suitor for his daughter. Aiken strives to live up to his expectations and do better and well enough to be respected in the court in the future, but he worries in the meantime that he'll fail Dune's Hold by making a fool of himself.

Ru3npF4.png
Miss Lyre
Childhood Nursemaid

Aiken adored his childhood nursemaid, and he misses her company and soothing voice. He remembers her well and sometimes writes to her. He enjoys a break from his normal duties in hearing about the children she's caring for at the current moment. It's a nice pastime to make him smile.

Ru3npF4.png
Brigaider Rey
Friend

Rey is one of Aiken's only remaining friends from his childhood and he's very sad that he had to leave him behind. Though they have conflicting personalities and never should have gotten along well, growing up together gave them a bond that's hard to break. Aiken writes to him regularly and his correspondence is one of the few things to bring him a smile.
