RP of Origin

Nightmares: A Small Hamlet

Description

Orsat is a strange child, having grown up on the streets of Caelkirk at a young age. She doesn't have any parents, instead raised collectively by the village, much to their chagrin. She's a sweet girl, but without food or shelter, it's hard for the residents to see her as anything but needy and overbearing. Despite this, she's generally regarded as a lovable scamp, always positive and a little cheeky. However, her situation made her easily manipulated, and the recent cult found it no trouble at all to bring her into their ranks with its promise of hope and protection, the things she's missed in her life until now. She's dressed in a loose, shaggy, dirty cowl with a hood that usually falls over her wide, dark eyes. Her skin is grubby, and despite her lifestyle her face is somewhat rounded in a youthful way. Her hair colour is hard to determine under the hood and grime, but it appears dark. She has a small and wiry frame on account of her meagre diet, but she's used to movement and agility, constantly being chased out of properties and locales she doesn't belong.

True Description

Orsat is a strange child, born of tragedy and fury. Her parents were murdered, perhaps not directly, but the events of that time can never be taken back. Orsat has sought vengeance against everyone in the village ever since. They who robbed of her home, her family, her livelihood. When she needed their help, they turned their back on her. They treated themselves so highly for giving her anything as small as scraps to keep her along. Not a single one had any true values, concerned with only themselves. That was a mentality Orsat learned to adopt, and she has taken it to the extreme. In this world, you can only care for yourself. Everyone else is dispensable, especially so to those who have wronged you. In this hamlet, there is not much a young girl can do to leverage power... but it is possible. Orsat has founded the Moon Children, and disguises herself as one of its own lower members to throw others off her identity as the leader. She relays commands through Ford, forming a bizarre circle of command. The cult's true purpose is to destroy everyone in this miserable corner of the globe, and build a paradise where Orsat can live her life as she pleases, likely at the expense of others.

Adventures

Orsat was the prophet of the Children of the Moon, the leader of the cult that sought to bring ruin to the town of Caelkirk by any means possible. Travelers came to the hamlet, and she became wary before eventually losing trust in all those closest to her, and orchestrated a string of violent murders and arsons to progress her plan. After taking the lives of nine people, a band of travelers grouped together to deal with her, but Orsat was more than ready to handle them. She followed them into the forest, and found them in the ruins of Old Caelkirk, the place where her home had burned, and her parents had perished. She assualted the group, with the spectral aid of some unknown forces, but ultimately fell to a bullet in the neck. She now waits in the afterlife, tormented by the guilt of her actions.

Profile

The fire consumes the last of the houses.  Not a single person has been left alive. You smile, your mission finally complete. You take the pills and lay back, drifting off into unconsciousness.  But God is oh so cruel.  You hear a voice call out to you.  It’s not done yet my child. Let us show them once more the consequences of their actions. You awaken once again, only to find that the people of Caelkirk are all alive and moving, and the houses have all been miraculously rebuilt. But you don’t care.  Your rage still burns deep.  You’ll kill them as many times as you have to.

Many years ago, when you were but a child, a wicked fire took to Caelkirk and burned down about half of the village. Most of the buildings burnt down were homes, including your own.  There weren’t enough people or funding to rebuild the lost houses, and there wasn’t enough room in the other homes for all the villagers to stay. So the mayor decided that those whose houses were lost had to leave the village.  Some of the villagers accepted this and left Caelkirk peacefully.  But not your parents.  They and a few others decided to retaliate in the only way they could. The image is forever burned into your memory.  You’ll never forget waking up from a good night’s sleep… only to see your parents hanging from the ceiling.  The next few weeks were a daze.  You walked around town aimlessly, looks of pity following you wherever you went. A strange feeling welled up in your chest. You felt like you should’ve been feeling despair at your parents’ deaths, but all you felt… was hatred.  It was all that damn mayor’s fault for trying to kick them out of town.  No, it was all the villagers fault for doing nothing to stop it.  How dare they look at you like that when they did nothing to prevent it in the first place.  From that day forward, your disgust towards the villagers steadily grew until you could no longer bear it.  One day it clicked.  You knew what you had to do; kill the remaining villagers and burn the rest of the hamlet to the ground.  You’d show them all the regret and anguish that had been building up inside you for years. And you did, but now everything is back to normal again.

You are a Cult Leader.  You weren’t when you originally eradicated Caelkirk.  You had simply poisoned the water supply and set fire to the houses after.  But this time is different. None of the townspeople have eaten or drunk a thing since their revival. And they seem to lack a certain agency.  They stick to the same actions everyday unless prodded by outside force.  They seem to be easily manipulated too.  You had a dream one night of a meteor crashing by the lake.  You immediately knew it was a vision of the future, and started plotting.  You got a few people together, and convinced them the moon was going to crash into the Earth soon, bringing ruin to everything.  You told them that God had approached you one night and told you of the approaching danger, and that he could only save those who believed.
They didn’t believe you at first, but you told them you’d prove yourself by calling down the Heavens.  And sure enough, the meteor landed the next day.  They were convinced, and devoted themselves to your cause.  You’re calling this group The Moon Children, and your goal is the convert or kill everyone in town.
