Yu Jiang was born one small snake of many siblings. One day their nest was attacked by a hawk; Yu Jiang was able to escape and find the local god of the forest to ask for help. The god, however, laughed at their plight, and chastised them for coming to a being much higher than them in status for a favor. By the time they returned to the nest their siblings had all been killed and eaten, leaving them with a burning hatred for gods. They somehow managed to survive for years, eventually long enough to become a god. Even as a god, their power was still weak, and they were generally overlooked by other gods. Where their strength shone, however, was interactions with humans themselves. Their dislike of gods led to a fondness for humans and their culture, letting them blend in more easily than most gods. Though this fondness was originally laughed at as a useless association with lower beings, as human's belief in gods began to dwindle, Yu Jiang was able to continue and even raise the amount of offerings they received by adjusting to human society. They currently run a popular makeup blog and receive gifts from fans as "offerings".
Yu Jiang is sociable and hedonistic, a perfect fit for human society. They tend to keep a cheerful face on at all times, but those who pick up well on personalities will find that they're rarely fully genuine. Though they tend to manipulate people to serve their own interests, they do genuinely love humans and will happily help them to the best of their limited abilities when they receive offerings from them. While they aren't at all book smart, or even street smart, they have a strong sense of intelligence towards social situations and have little trouble getting their way when they have the opportunity to debate. When they care about something enough they're single-minded and stubborn; they're not the type to care or even think about the possible consequences to their actions, even with regards to their own well-being. They're somewhat on the petty side and can hold a grudge for a ridiculously long time when they feel that they've been wronged.
- Not subtle about their animal origins, some of their snake features can show- forked tongue, scales around their face, and cross shaped pupils.
- Constantly stylish and wears mostly black with small color accents. Feel free to design an outfit for them yourself.
- Because their human form is their own creation they can change their features to suit their mood so don't worry too much if you feel like you're drawing them too masculine/feminine!
- They offer advice on their channel as well and are famous for fixing problems "as if by magic" for those who have sent them gifts.
Nemesis (one-sided)
Of all the gods in existence, Yu Jiang hates Wei Xiao the most by far. They hold him personally responsible for the death of their siblings and have held that grudge for hundreds of years, making it their life goal to see him suffer as much as possible. As Wei Xiao's standing as a god fell Yu Jiang was there to "help", though their gift of offerings was much less to do with generosity and more to destroy his sense of pride when he had no other options for survival. They're perfectly willing to never get into heaven as long as it means they get to have their vengeance on him.
Friend?
Jing and Yu Jiang have near opposite personalities and values, so they frequently end up squabbling. As the only known gods in the area, however, they're more or less stuck with each other. Yu Jiang finds comfort in being able to discuss issues of godhood with Jing, but they also find them to be stuffy and uptight. They take great pleasure in pestering them in an attempt to make them more "fun", but have so far not had much success.
Acquaintance
Yu Jiang hasn't interacted with Gwai Nai a whole lot, but they have seen her pretty frequently since they both frequent Jing's cafe. They hold the same level of distrust for her that they do for most gods, though she has yet to give them any justification for that. For the most part, however, she's reserved enough that they simply overlook her entirely.
