Hate is a strong word, but I really really really don't like you.

Personality

Fyfe is a lot of things, but none of them would be described as friendly or warm. He is surly, rude, and prefers little to no company. Even as a child, Fyfe had a bitterness in him that has only worsened with time. He has a lot of contempt for his upbringing and abandonment, and he wants everyone to know it.

He isn't easily offended so much as easily annoyed. People that comment on his cold personality receive little more than a shrug of indifference. However, he is known for his short temper, and while he never escalates to physical fights, he has a sharp tongue and a knack for saying the exact right thing to be a gut-punch to someone else.

Still, those few that get to know him can sense there's a deep grief and feeling of self-loathing beneath his anger. He just has no idea how to otherwise express himself.

Appearance

Fyfe is rather ordinary looking, which is the way he prefers it. His hair is about chin-length with bangs and is a dull dark brown. His eyes are green. He has no truly outstanding physical characteristics and nothing makes him stand out in a crowd (except for perhaps his constant scowl).

That being said, he's actually a rather smart dresser. He likes to accent his clothing with a bit of red, and he has a fondness for subtle patterns. He still doesn't quite stand out, but he does look rather presentable most of the time.

When working, Fyfe wears two pairs of golden bells in his hair, one on each side of his head. It is the symbol used to mark an oracle of the gods. Fyfe's are adorned with red ribbon, which isn't a traditional color associated with Psione but is his own preferred color. Psione has long since given up arguing with him about it; she's just happy to see him dress appropriately.

Relationships

Galena

Fyfe's older half-brother through their father - however, neither of them are aware that they are brothers. The few years they spent together with Virgil were filled with strife and animosity, and this has followed them to Theede. Virgil and a small handful of others know the truth about the two of them, but have chosen to keep it to themselves for now. Unfortunately as they both serve Psione, they have to work rather closely together sometimes.

Fyfe finds Galena spoiled and fake; Galena finds Fyfe sullen and rude. Galena was raised in a warm, loving, family-focused home; Fyfe was raised by an abusive mother who eventually dumped him in a church-run orphanage. Galena loves the color pink, and Fyfe thinks it's the most horrible shade in existence. Galena loves just about everyone he meets, and Fyfe hates basically everyone. The two have absolutely nothing in common - except for their shared parentage.

Delyth

Delyth serves under Andi in a job completely unrelated to anything Fyfe does. However, when she hears that Fyfe is essentially about to be cast out of Theede for being a jerk, she volunteers to take him under her wing and help him with his one final chance to not ruin his life. Delyth is everything Fyfe dislikes: she is friendly, talkative, upbeat, optimistic, and she likes everyone. She is known for her fixations and fascinations, and it seems her newest one is him.

Psione

The Goddess of the East whom Fyfe is supposed to be serving under. Not only that, he's supposed to be her representative to her followers on Theede. She has been putting up with him for a hundred or so years, and she's just about had it with him.

Virgil

One of the few people that Fyfe seems to have any sort of positive relationship with. While it took a few years to really earn his trust, Fyfe does see Virgil as something of a father figure and has been known to open up to him in his own way. It was Virgil's persuasive nature that lead Fyfe to his position with Psione in the first place, and he's really the only reason she continues to give Fyfe 'one more chance' - though this time she means it.

Backstory

Fyfe is the son of a rather seductive street worker from Llyn and Galena’s rather gullible father. For the first five years of his life, Fyfe grew up on the streets of Llyn with his mother, and he quite quickly became a dirty, bitter, and angry child. His mother was violent and unpredictable, and she found Fyfe to be a tiresome burden more than anything else. Eventually, she abandoned Fyfe at an orphanage run by the church of Psione. Here he was raised until his early teens. While it was certainly a better choice for him - he had warmth, food, and people to care for him - it did very little to improve his overall feelings of abandonment, and he continued to stew in anger for his entire childhood.

Thanks to his dormant but incredibly strong healing gift, he was eventually found out by Virgil, who 'adopted' him, so to speak. Learning to use magic gave Fyfe a focus other than anger, although it did little to nothing to help mend what was already damaged. Through infinite patience, Virgil was able to get through to Fyfe in a more emotional, humanistic manner, and he has vouched often for Fyfe's abilities. When an opening became available in Theede under Psione, Virgil convinced her to let Fyfe take it, hoping that such an important task would finally give him some self worth.

Present Day

As Psione's oracle, Fyfe's job is to report her current happenings to those on the mortal plane, generally through her head priests. It is often considered one of the most important jobs in Theede, and no one can quite say what either Virgil or Psione were thinking by giving him such a divine position. While he does his job when told, he does it with little to no fanfare. He often needs prompting from Psione or Calleo about what to say and when to say it. The other oracles, particularly Quail, have tried to help guide Fyfe into doing his job better, but his personality makes him a poor student to even the most patient teachers.

After years of headaches, Psione finally told Fyfe she wanted him to leave Theede once and for all. He would have his mortality returned to him but would not be allowed to live with Virgil - nor even visit - and may not be able to return to the immortal plane upon his eventual death. Though Fyfe feigns indifference about this decision, Virgil and Delyth convince Psione to give Fyfe one last chance to prove he's a willing follower. With threats of war around them, Psione certainly does not want to see more time and effort be put into Fyfe when she believes it will be a waste and go nowhere, but she agrees to let them try. This results in Fyfe being put under Delyth's seemingly never-ending supervision, much to his frustration.

Trivia

Fyfe is a healer of moderate skill. However, he is far better at anti-healing, and is probably the best user of this magic in all of Theede. Unlike many healers, Fyfe does not seem to tire or drain as easily as others when he uses anti-healing. He has absolutely no qualms about using this sometimes controversial magic technique as a weapon.

He is also quite skilled with a variety of weapons, including lances and maces. However, for the last several decades he has had very little continued training in melee weapons, as he and Cairn cannot stand to be around each other.

Hates sweets, especially chocolate.

Fyfe is one of my characters that I brought over from Ragnarok Online, where I built him as a battle-based priest. He's basically the same exact person here as he was on RO. He hated you there, and he hates you here.
