PERSONALITY

Judy is a very warm and loving person. He's understanding, easy to talk to, and sweet. He's the mood-maker of the team, and always seems to know when something is wrong with his friends. sometimes he just needs to get away from it all, though, and spend a night by himself or with Dakota. His sense of humour is, to put it simply, pure. he doesn't really swear or use offensive terms to make his jokes funny or dramatic, even when he's having light-hearted banter with his friends. He often overworks himself so he can do perfectly, or as close to it as possible. he doesn't like failing at something he could've done better at, and this usually leads to him being exhausted or stressed until he has a chance to calm down and realize that how he's acting isn't healthy.

LIKES/DISLIKES
- Judy loves Dakota, his team, sports, summer weather, cool animals like sharks and tigers, going to beaches and water parks, the Fridays he spends playing video games with Dakota surrounded by snacks with the lights off in their blanket fort, his hair being played with, neck kisses, his moms home-made spaghetti, and solving puzzles. Puzzles are something Judy's been connected with since he was a child, and this is definitely a major strength of his; something he's better at than Dakota.
- He dislikes people who are bullies, anxiety, crowds and confrontation, Mondays, waking up early, loosing games, and getting bad marks/results.

STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES

Judy is not a weak person, and is capable of holding his own in a fight if necessary. His strengths also include his photographic memory, which comes in handy a lot. he's also very good at cooking, basketball, puzzles of any sort, keeping morale up, making other people happy, and identifying problems.

Judy is not good with crowds, or confrontation. he never really was, and being the centre of attention always makes him anxious. but when he's with his team and playing in front of crowds, the attention doesn't bother him because its not about him. its about the team. He also doesn't have the best self esteem. While its not as bad as it used to be, he still sometimes gets in these sad moods where he doesn't feel like he's good enough.

"I'm the king of our blanket forts."

BACKSTORY

Ever since he was young, Judy was a prime target for bullies. He was gullible and foolish, and his friends and classmates would sometimes take advantage of that. it kind of stuck as they all aged together, and they started digging deeper than colouring on his pictures with crayons and leaving him out during playtime. They liked to pick on him, make him the butt of all their jokes, take and hide his things. they called him names and made fun of everything he did. they'd throw around words like useless and dumb and stupid, and Judy started to believe he couldn't do anything right.

highschool rolled around, and suddenly everybody was all about drama. the girls were gossipy and the boys were aggressive. Judy didn't seem to fit in anywhere, and while the girls left him alone, the guys didn't. every now and then he'd be cornered outside during lunch, or he'd have a run in with those obnoxious druggies in the bathrooms. it always felt as if he was being judged or laughed at, and he hated it. He hated being lonely.

it was a few months before the end of his first year that his life took a turn for the better, or at least looked like it would. He was just trying to eat his lunch peacefully outside on the bleachers like he always does, when some dudes in one of his classes who've been harassing him lately found him. They struck up a conversation as if it was the most natural thing to do, but Judy still felt like something was wrong. They were getting too close and acting too casual, and he was uncomfortable. they were never this nice to him.

He tried to leave, but couldn't find an opportunity. he was trapped on the bleachers and then they brought up money. money they didn't have but wanted, and it made sense.

Judy was about so say something, when he heard a grunt from behind him. Some guy he never saw before was awkwardly climbing over the back of the bleachers to reach them, then plopped down beside Judy like he owned the place.

"I'm getting really sick of what I'm hearing, its ruining my appetite. can you fuck off?" the stranger said, looking at the guys who cornered Judy. He was awestruck. "Confident" was the first word to cross his mind; he wanted that confidence. how did he pull it off so effortlessly?

Judy didn't even comprehend the rest of the verbal bashing that was exchanged between the stranger and the group of boys, but he did notice when the stranger kicked one of them down the bleachers and they finally retreated. "um- thanks?" Judy said.

"it was no big deal- just doing what any decent human would do. want to join me down there?" The stranger asked, gesturing to a spot beneath the bleachers where he must've been sitting before. There was food on a tray on the ground, a bag, and an open book. Of course Judy was hesitant, but this was a possible friend. a possible confident friend, that he could learn from. And so he did.

"The name's Dakota, by the way."

"Judy."

-

The rest of the year was, without a doubt, the best time of Judy's life. Dakota was a fun person to be around, and Judy felt comfortable while he was with him. He didn't feel like he had any expectations to meet, or like everything he did was wrong. Judy got used to being around Dakota, and Dakota inspired him to make a conscious effort and start standing up for himself more. Even though Dakota was his only friend, he didn't feel all that lonely anymore.

The end of the year came, and Judy was upset he wouldn't be able to see his friend for two whole months. he was going to visit family in some other part of the world, which left Judy alone for the summer. During that time he'd often spend his days outside, since his dad asked him to help clean out the garage. There were a lot of boxes to go through, and they were all heavy, packed full of stuff from over the years.

One day while Judy was alone in the garage, searching through boxes, he came across an old, dusty basketball. That explains the hoop on the wall above the garage doors.

"you found that old thing?" His dad asked from the door, smiling warmly. he walked over to Judy and took it, wiping off the dust before giving a few test dribbles. Judy's eyes were glued to the ball, and when his dad asked if he wanted to learn to play 21, he jumped at the chance.

Turns out Judy was a natural at basketball. He loved it, in fact. Nearly everyday he'd go out and practice shooting, or play a game with his dad. cleaning all those boxes out of the garage helped build some endurance and strength, and soon he was dribbling circles around his dad. His dad suggested he should try out for the team once school started up again, and Judy agreed. Maybe Dakota would watch him try out for moral support, too. would he be proud of him if he made the team?

Summer break ended, a new school year started, and Dakota wasn't there. Judy was upset, of course, but maybe he'd be there tomorrow.

a few days came and went, and Dakota still hadn't shown up. Judy couldn't help but think that maybe he wouldn't be coming back, and his only friend would disappear.

Basketball tryouts were announced the week after. Judy was extremely nervous. He wished Dakota was here to cheer him on, but it didn't look like that was going to happen. He steeled his nerves, then started the drills.

There were plenty of activities where he could showcase his skills, but the real test was the match. The teams were divided randomly, so some team members were also playing while the coach judged. he'd be playing against actual team members, people who've played competitively for real. He wiped his sweaty palms against his shorts in anxious excitement.

A whistle from the bleachers grabbed his attention, and there Dakota was, yelling "do your best!" at him. The churning in his stomach calmed down, he threw back a thumbs up, and the game started.

-

Judy loved his new team. They welcomed him with open arms, and it instantly felt like this team could be a second family. Dakota met him outside the gym once everything was settled. Dakota congratulated him on making the team, and apologized for being late. He explained that his trip had been extended a bit due to some trouble, plus having to fix up his sleeping schedule which was all wack from the timezone differences. He found out about Judy trying out for the team when he visited his house to give them souvenirs, and his dad told Dakota where he was. Judy felt a bit foolish, thinking he wouldn't be coming back instead of considering that his trip could've just taken a bit longer.

"Speaking of souvenirs," Dakota said, lifting up the fabric he had draped over his arm, "I got you this."

Judy quickly put it on. It was extremely comfortable, since it was still big enough to be a little baggy and non-restricting. "Thanks, I love it!" He said, grinning.

They told each other about their summer experiences, talking until they had to go. "see you tomorrow!" Judy said.

"Of course!" Dakota called back.

It was quite obvious to anyone that the two were dancing around each other, and neither of them were very graceful. Dakota might've been the less obvious one, but that really wasn't saying much. They were sickeningly sweet together, and it was clear to all their friends that they liked each other. If only they would do something about it.

And so, the basketball team hatched a plan. It was one you'd see in any cliche fan fiction; Shove them into a closet and refuse to let them out until they confessed.

The perfect opportunity came when they won their first game of the season in 11th grade, and to celebrate, hosted a party at the captains house. there was pizza and drinks (but not alcohol, since these kids are responsible,) and it was a fun time. Significant others of the team were there, the cheerleaders, their friends. They were goofing around and acting like the kids they were.

Then came the time for party games. The basketball team had done a little research, and came across something called the "Kings game," which would be perfect for what they wanted to accomplish.

"Basically, there's a cup full of sticks. each stick has a number on it, but one stick has a crown on it. whoever draws that stick can order the other numbers to do whatever they want; but the king doesn't know who has what number. get it? They can choose as many people as they please." the captain, Jeremy, explained. Everybody was in on the plan, except Judy and Dakota. all the sticks would be labeled with ones and twos, and everybody would have a stick with a crown on it hidden on their person, So Judy and Dakota wouldn't draw the kings stick. All they hoped was that the two wouldn't both draw the same number.

Lady Luck was on their side. On the first turn their plan succeeded, and after Jeremy said "one and two, seven minutes in heaven," while gesturing to the closet, both Judy and Dakota stood up. The two were suspicious, embarrassed, and rightfully so as they were locked in.

"So..." Judy started awkwardly.

"I wasn't really planning on doing this, much less in a closet, but its better to just get it over with," Dakota started, sighing as he leaned against the wall, "I kinda really like you. y'know, Romantically."

Judy was shocked. Dakota actually liked him? Him? "Really? You're not tricking me?"

"Why would I do that?"

a big grin fought its way onto his face, and he found Dakota in the dark, pulling him into a hug, a teasing lilt to his voice, "I kinda really like you too. Y'know, romantically."

"shut up."
