With a crash I’m trapped back in reality.

Storyteller is the second-born child of the main branch of the LaFontaine family of thieves, and the only one so far to not follow through with the family occupation. He's always been a bit of an odd one from the moment he was born however, both his younger and older brothers are more energetic and loud whereas Storyteller is quiet, logical and careful. These are traits more alike to his mother than his father, but even his mother is still a true thief without a doubt in the world; so what happened exactly?

He's known from a very young age that it wasn't the life he was meant for, but he's never told anyone why he feels this way for fear of being thrown into an asylum. But just before he was going to begin learning thievery with his brothers, he received an audience in his dream with Damani, the god of destiny. He found Storyteller to be a very promising boy and blessed him with the ability of foresight, officially making him a prophet under the element of destiny itself. He was thrilled to be given such an opportunity, but the rest of his family never understood why their son had suddenly gone from an odd but relatively normal LaFontaine, to the black sheep of the family.

He still learned thievery and is capable of it, but he will never own the title of master thief nor do it for a living. Most of the time he's found buried in books on myths and fortunes or shuffling his tarot cards, acting more as a helper of his family than a real member of it.

Personality

He probably would've made for a fairly decent thief if he'd stayed on track with his family, Storyteller doesn't miss a detail and even with that is cautious to be sure he succeeds in whatever his goal may be. However he namely uses these traits with his fortune telling these days, sometimes it can be incredibly easy to read clients just on the smallest details he can pick up from them without even using his ability. 

However his ability in general makes him a peculiar sight to people, especially when they know of his family background. Some may find his way of life to be an interesting one, maybe even helpful if they were truly looking for guidance of some sort. Others merely get a laugh about this odd individual and some might even recommend that he goes back into the family business before trying his luck elsewhere.

It's disheartening when no one takes him seriously, which has made him awfully defensive, a bit of a know-it-all, and lead to some jealousy towards his siblings. They follow the status quo and will be praised for it if they do well, Storyteller could make the prediction of the year and it wouldn't matter to anyone but him. Can't say that it isn't just a bit depressing, and leaves a lonely feeling that hangs around him from time to time.

May 30th 1865, the second of the three main branch LaFontaine heirs is born, Nathan LaFontaine with two years of age difference between himself and the eldest brother Mika LaFontaine.

Despite his young age Nathan's older brother already proved he was quite capable, but nonetheless the two brothers' parents tried to even out their attention and teaching between them. But as he grew up they quickly began to notice that Nathan was not as interested in thievery, he would rather be read to or played with instead of enjoying the thrill of stealing the last cookie off the shelf when maman and papa weren't looking. A few years after he was born another boy would be brought into the family named Luer, who picked up for Nathan's slack on the job as soon as he was old enough but it left the middle brother as the oddity of the famous thieving family. 

His mother always told him that while she believed that his father would've loved him, his job made it so it was impossible for them to meet. It was a harsh lesson to take as a small child that he never understood, but he adored his mother and did his best not to think about his absent father. But his mother passed away to an illness that nobody knew she had when he was five years old, and with no known family members and no known father in his records he was going to be sent to an orphanage; as soon as he heard that however he took off from the clinic as far as he could possibly go. He figured that if the doctors wouldn't find his father then he would do it himself, his mother had after all left him clues to go off of: their names were similar, hair color was the same, and he was a priest, surely with all those clues he could find him on his own!

He didn't find him, and because he'd gone unknown to his father he didn't try to look for a child he didn't even know about either. Authorities within his station stopped looking for him eventually as well, they said it was like the child slipped through their fingers like water; and it was because he'd gained his ability to stop time. He namely used it to steal food, toys, and matches from merchants but he was surviving even on his low intelligence against all odds, and this was also when he picked up his fascination with fire. It felt cathartic to set something ablaze to him, like it was a symbol of warmth, determination, and yet also a cry for help in hopes that he would be found by his father someday. Eventually he stopped trying to look for him but his love of fire never left, neither did his habits of stealing and his strange ability to pause time.

Sometime around when he became a teenager, the roof collapsed in on his station and caused the sunlight he'd never experienced in his life to shine into one of his eyes and leave him completely blind. He was otherwise largely unharmed aside from a few scratches and bruises that may or may not have been caused by the accident, but while waiting to see if his eye could be healed be befriended a man who had lost his arm by the name of Misio. As a result of the accident they'd both been left with scrambled memories or completely wiped memories, and a loss of something important to their physical bodies, but they did their best to keep their spirits up and Misio was good at that. It was like having an older brother to him, one that he actually a had a good relationship with anyway; but sadly it wasn't to last. When Misio was finished with his recovery and moving onto therapy they were going to try and track down Nick's history, and with that he found himself running again.

He never lost his ability to stop time however and eventually took the name Stopwatch in reference to it, he felt it was more fun than his real name and carried less sad feelings to it. Hearing his real name just reminded him of how alone he really was, as nobody was looking for him except for his old friend. He moved into the Fahrenheit station in order to let his arsonist ways run freely and lived there under his own definition of peace until paperwork ended up in front of him to burn, and his mother's portrait was on the papers. He asked where they'd come from and when he was given the chance to leave he set off for Outergarden station. Maybe, just maybe this time he could get it right this time... but even if he did, who knows what his father would think of him.
