The brother of Marie from the Squid Sisters. Much like her, he has a similar disposition. However, he's developed more of a hubris. He desires to become a successful guitar player, but is plagued by the jealousy that his sister became successful before he did. He has strong feelings for Venus, and wants to try to be a better person for her, but struggles with his own toxic behavior.

About
Nereus is a tall and lean teenage boy with a striking resemblance to his sister. He has the signature white tentacles that fade to black near the tips. He has golden eyes much like Marie's. Due to his need to stand out, he has many piercings on his face and ears. He also has two beauty marks, one under his right eye and under his lip on the opposite side. He dresses in very covering punk wear, and wears a rosary(not to be connected with Christianity, it's seen as just a cool human artifact) that was from his mother. Underneath his cool blue pullover hoodie, he wears a black-blue turtle neck that cuts off at the finger tips. On his lower half, he wears ripped jeans with combat boots.
Background
Nereus was raised in Calamari County along with his sister, Marie, and his cousin, Callie, and his childhood friend, Ceto. His mother had convinced him to pick up shamisen when he was a child, to immerse him in the Calamari County culture. In his preteens, he had picked up guitar because of his newfound interest in rock music, and started practicing turf war. When he reached 14, his grandfather offered him a chance to join the Squidbeak, however Nereus declined because he thought it would get in the way of his career. Later, when he saw how his sister and cousin's career blossomed while balancing being agents in the Squidbeak, he was infected with envy. This grew into a grudge against both his sister and cousin. He auditioned and enrolled in Inkblot Academy along with Ceto. Nereus was very popular among the female students for his cool and mysterious demeanor. In Inkblot, he met Venus. When he realized she carried the same goals and raw ambition, he grew infatuated with her. Due to his excessive greed and envy, he has a very possessive nature and is quick to deem any male figure in Venus's life is his rival.

Sometimes catching his greedy behavior; he tries to change himself for the better, but struggles. He still attends Inkblot with Venus and others. Sometimes, he plays guitar for Venus when she does open-mics. Him and Ceto are still trying to make their band take off and recruit other members. He hasn't interacted with his sister or cousin, but grows increasingly irritated with how constantly he sees promotional media and merchandise of them.

Venus [ love interest ]
Nereus's current love interest. The both flirt with each other but haven't actually made any suggestion of being a couple. Nereus has attempted to ask Venus out on a date multiple times but she had a convenient excuse every time. He's territorial over her and tends to get jealous easily.
Akkoro [ music teacher, considered a rival ]
Akkoro is also Nereus's music theory teacher, much like many other characters. However, due to his closeness to Venus; he believes Akkoro is also a rival for her attention, despite their relationship being purely platonic. Two butt heads due to Akkoro's protectiveness over Venus, and Nereus's territorial side over her.
Ceto [ childhood friend ]
Nereus's best friend who is also in a band with him and plays drums. She doesn't speak much so this leaves Nereus as the more dominant one in the friendship.
