Mai is living her best life, running a small boba tea shop, meeting new people, and just loving the world. 

But this life didn't come easy...

Childhood and Adolescence 

In her childhood, Mai didn't actually know she was a bulbette at first. Because Bulbette's tails and lights don't develop till adolescence, for the first 13 years of her life, she thought she was a normal human. In addition, she was blissfully unaware about who were true parents were because she was adopted by a caring yet disciplined family. Her childhood was relatively normal.  

However, when she was a teenager, something was strange. She started growing a tail, and the roses in her hair started glowing and never came off. Her mother, seeing this as a freak force of nature, forced her to hid her tail in a long, traditional kimono. She was shunned out of attention, causing her to be very shy.

Adulthood

As the years passed, she finally convinced her parent to allow her to go out of the house as long as she wore a kimono. Although she had to wear a long kimono, no matter how hot the weather, Mai was very glad that she now was able to go out about and enjoy the world around her. However, these times were limited, and she longed for more. She didn't have any friends, as her parents made sure that she wouldn't talk to anyone, and her parents were the only she knew. Until she saw her.   

Her name was Aurora. She had long blue hair with pink eyes and nice, tan skin. But that wasn't what caught Mai's eye. It was the fact that she had a bulb on top of her head. While Mai desperately wanted to talk to her, she said nothing, fearing her parents' wrath. Eventually, Aurora noticed Mai, and they struck up a nice friendship. Soon after, Mai let out her secret, the one she'd been keeping for years. That she was... well, something else. 

But when Mai she showed Aurora her tail, she didn't react how Mai expected. Instead of being confused, or scared, Aurora was overridden with joy. She showed Mai her tail and told her who she was: a bulbette. She explained what they were and talked about others like her. Instant relief filled up inside Mai's body. She wasn't an abnormality or a mutation. She was normal. 

Mai wanted to see these people, so with the help of Aurora, she ran away, and started a whole new life. Now, she owns a boba tea store that's available for everyone. While she's shy, she always enjoys meeting new people. Needless to say, now, she is happy.
