The Cursed One
"I can’t take back the past, but I can fight for the future."
Katherine is a human who was placed under a curse by the Devil when she was born. Her curse manifested as a necklace that cannot be removed. Inside the necklace lies the destructible power of two Spirits, entities with enough strength to wipe out the human race. These two Spirits were the ones who raised Katherine in isolation for 100 years. Katherine didn't know she was cursed for the longest time because she suffered from amnesia, and the Spirits never told her the truth. It wasn't until Katherine made contact with other humans for the first time that she finally got the answers she was looking for. Katherine doesn't know why she was cursed, or how dangerous the curse really is, but she's determined to break it no matter what. Along the way, she encounters many enemies that get in her way and also meets some unlikely allies.
Her hunt for the one who cursed her is mainly so Katherine can remember who she was and to find out why she was chosen. But as her journey continues, Katherine learns the grim truth of her past and finally realizes the level of danger that looms before her.

Personality
Hard-working
Being raised in a forest, Katherine has worked hard ever since she was a child. She didn't have electricity or running water, so everything down to shelter and food was something she had to work for everyday. Her guardians would help her of course, but as she grew older, Katherine became capable of doing all of those things herself. She does so many chores daily that she just got used to handling a lot of things at once.
Forgiving
Katherine's guardians are not human, so she did not learn how to be forgiving from them. This is a trait that she naturally inherited from her parents (whom she doesn't remember). Katherine is a sympathetic person, so she often understands why someone acts the way they do. No matter how much she hates someone at first, Katherine is always open to forgiving them if they genuinely want to atone for what they did.
Daring
There are a lot of perks to being immortal, and one of them is Katherine's rapid healing abilities. This has made her do a lot of dangerous things ever since she was small. Katherine thinks she's invincible, so if something is risky and potentially deadly for normal humans, she won't hesitate to try it herself. She isn't reckless though, her guardians have taught her to at least plan ahead before doing something that would normally be called crazy.
Independent
Just as her upbringing made her a hard worker, it also made Katherine very independent. Training with supernatural beings like her guardians has made Katherine capable of surviving on her own in the middle of the wilderness. She knows how to hunt, cook, make shelter, make clothes, fight off wild animals, and much more. She can take care of herself just fine on her own, so Katherine doesn't like depending on other people.
Protective
Katherine didn't socialize with other humans for a very long time, so it's hard for her to make friends. Because of this, Katherine has become very protective of the friends she does have. She will go to any length to make her friends feel safe and happy. She's not usually a violent person, but she can be pushed to borderline killing someone if they hurt her friends. She doesn't want to lose anymore people who are important to her.
Blunt
Another side effect to being raised in isolation would be Katherine's bluntness. She doesn't understand social cues nor common manners. She'll speak her mind about something with no filter because she was taught to always be honest. She doesn't know why her honesty would be considered rude sometimes and she doesn't understand jokes or sarcasm well unless someone explains it to her. She eventually gets better at this though.

Story
The Beginning
Katherine was born in 2000 in a small town in Puerto Rico. Her father, Emilio, was a construction worker while her mother, Andreea, was a school teacher. Her mother was from Romania, but she moved to Puerto Rico when she met and fell in love with Katherine's father. Before Katherine was born, the two decided to name her after Emilio's mother and to give her Andreea's last name. The two were well known in town and were friends with everybody. However, things started to change after Katherine was born. September 1st was a stormy day, and Katherine's mother decided to give birth at home with help from the townspeople. Throughout the entire birth, lightning continually struck their house. Everyone was safe indoors, but as soon as Katherine's first cries were heard, an enormous bolt of lightning stuck and broke through the window. Everyone could only watch in horror as the bolt of lightning hit the newborn child. The power suddenly went out throughout the whole town and everything was cast in darkness. However, everyone's eyes soon focused on a mysterious source of light coming from the child. Without explanation, there was a strange necklace around Katherine's neck. It glowed brightly in the dark, but slowly faded as seconds passed. Confused, the woman who delivered her tried to remove the necklace. But as soon as her hand made contact with it, the necklace burned her. Emilio and Andreea could only look in confusion as the townspeople practically ran out of their house. The woman holding Katherine gave her to Emilio with a look of fear in her eyes. She told them both that their child had been touched by the Devil, and it would be best if they left town and never came back. She left without saying another word, leaving Katherine's parents alone and confused.
Katherine's parents didn't know where her necklace came from, but they knew that it couldn't be removed. Everytime someone touched it, it would repel them away either by burning or pushing them away with an unknown force. Her parents decided to stay in their town to raise their daughter, but the rest of the townspeople were wary of them. They stopped talking to the two and avoided them. They believed that interacting with Katherine's family would curse them as well. This made it very difficult for Katherine's parents to live in the town (they had to start getting supplies from another town), but they persisted. They wanted Katherine to have a happy life, so they homeschooled her and got a pet dog for her to play with. Young Katherine would normally play by herself in the forest, but whenever she would wander into town, everyone would give her disdainful looks. She even became a target for bullying and would be picked on by other school kids. Katherine didn't hate the townspeople though, she knew she was different from them. However, she was always very lonely. That would eventually change though, when she ran into a mysterious boy from another world.
This boy was named Lucas, and he was wandering the forest by himself until Katherine found him. They couldn't communicate very well since Katherine spoke Spanish and he spoke English, but both of them could tell that the other was lonely. Katherine took Lucas by the hand to show that she wanted to be his friend, and Lucas seemed to understand the gesture. This was the beginning of a sweet childhood friendship. Katherine would eventually introduce Lucas to her parents, both of whom spoke English, and explained that Lucas came from a foreign land. Thinking Lucas was a runaway, they asked where his home was. He responded by saying his home was in the forest (a lie) and that he wasn't a runaway. Katherine's parents had their doubts, but judging from Lucas's healthy appearance, they concluded that he wasn't in any danger. For the next few months, Lucas would visit Katherine and play with her. She would teach him Spanish so they could communicate better, and Lucas would bring back small gifts for her. Katherine never knew where Lucas came from since Lucas kept it a secret, but she was happy to finally have a friend her age. Her parents also grew fond of Lucas and would have him stay over a few times. They would ask to meet Lucas's parents, but Lucas would tell them that he only had one guardian and that his guardian couldn't leave home. Instead, Lucas would bring back notes and letters from his guardian assuring them that everything was okay. For two whole years, everything was fine. Katherine and Lucas were happy, but it could only last for so long.
It was on Katherine's tenth birthday when everything went up in flames. On that day, Lucas brought her a pretty silk ribbon as a gift. Katherine wore it for her birthday party and some townspeople even showed up to bring her gifts. Over the years, most of the town realized that Katherine was just a normal girl. Instead of a Devil's curse, some thought that Katherine was actually blessed by God. It was a very joyous day and Katherine was the happiest she had ever been. Lucas was with her the entire time, so he was the first to realize when something was wrong. First it was the glow of Katherine's necklace, then it was the increasing heat surrounding her. Katherne's necklace hadn't glowed since her birth, so she didn't understand what was happening to her. Suddenly, there was a large flash of light. Lucas was pushed away with so much force that he temporarily passed out. Not a minute later, he opened his eyes and was greeted by the smell of ash and burning flesh. The town was on fire, and Lucas didn't know where Katherine was. He ran through town looking for her and was horrified by all the corpses he saw. When he eventually found her, he knew something had possessed her. Katherine's eyes were completely white and she was floating in midair. Surrounding her were two large creatures, a phoenix and a dragon.
Lucas could only infer that it was the creatures who were controlling Katherine and that they had been hiding in Katherine's necklace this whole time. The creatures set fire to everything and left nothing untouched. Lucas couldn't bring himself to do anything, he was too scared, so he watched from a distance as everyone in town was slaughtered. After a few minutes of this horror, something happened. Katherine's eyes went back to normal for only a moment, but it was enough to bring her back to her senses. She saw what was happening around her and it momentarily made the two creatures disappear back into her necklace. Frightened and lost, Katherine cried for help. Lucas heard her, but he stayed in place. She went looking for her parents and was met with the gruesome sight of their burned corpses. Traumatized, Katherine screamed and ran away. She had no destination in mind, she just ran and ran. Her ribbon fell from her hair and was left back in town. Lucas retrieved it, but it was too late for him to catch up to her. Katherine had disappeared, and the town burned for three more days with no signs of any survivors. Authorities had no idea what happened to the town, but it eventually became a ghost town. Katherine was presumed dead along with everybody else, but Lucas knew she was alive. Ashamed of his cowardice, he made an oath to find her again.
100 Years Later
After Katherine left her town in ruin, she unconsciously sealed away her own memories because the Memory Key happened to be near by. She eventually passed out of exhaustion, allowing the two creatures in her necklace to show themselves again. However, they were different this time. Instead of being a phoenix and a dragon, they took on a more humanoid form. It took them a while to process what they had done to the town, but after seeing Katherine with the necklace, they realized that she was their new "master." Taking her with them, the two decided to raise Katherine on their own. They decided to do this not because they felt pity for Katherine, but because they wanted to keep her existence a secret. They knew what had happened and why Katherine had been cursed, and they thought it was best to keep it a secret. For the next 100 years, the two creatures (who are actually called Spirits) raised Katherine in the forest in total isolation. It wasn't long until they actually became attached to Katherine and saw her as their own daughter. Katherine grew up never knowing the truth. All she knew was that these two Spirits were her guardians and that she couldn't leave the forest. But as always, things don't always go according to plan. Katherine would eventually discover the truth when she encountered other humans for the first time in over a century.
Katherine's guardians, Blaze and Ruby, did a good job in keeping people away from Katherine. They lived deep in the forest anyway, but they'd occassionally have to deal with hikers or explorers. Nobody ever got close to their home, but that all changed when two people seemed to be heading directly towards them. Ruby and Blaze can sense the souls of humans, but one of the souls heading towards them felt... different. They went to investigate these strangers, firmly telling Katherine to stay inside, but Katherine could also sense that something was different. The two people were heading towards her, and one of them had an aura that reminded Katherine of herself. Disobeying her guardians, Katherine stealthily followed them into the forest. When she eventually caught up with Ruby and Blaze, she saw that they finally made contact with the intruders. It was then that Katherine found out why one of them reminded her of herself. The pair of intruders were a man and woman. They seemed prepared for a fight jugding by their clothing. The woman hid behind the man as he slowly transformed into an enormous beast. Blaze and Ruby seemed to freeze as the reality of the situation dawned on them. This man had been cursed by a demon, just like Katherine.
They engaged in a quick fight, one where Blaze and Ruby had a clear advantage. They were able to subdue the man (now beast) with ease and were about the capture the woman until Katherine stepped in and stopped them. Blaze and Ruby were annoyed that she disobeyed their orders, but Katherine didn't care. She wanted to know who these people were and why that man had a similar aura to herself. The woman interrupted the conversation and asked Katherine if she was a demon. Confused, Katherine asked why she would assume that, and the man responded that Katherine had demon energy radiating out of her. Katherine knew what demons were and she knew that she was a human, so this didn't make sense. She explained that she was human just like them, and this seemed to make the strangers depressed. But before they could say anything else, Blaze and Ruby shut their mouths. They told Katherine to return home and that they would dispose of the threats. Usually, Katherine would listen to them, but not this time. With a growing sense of authority, Katherine sternly told Blaze and Ruby to let the two go. She had never demanded anything of her guardians before, but at that moment it felt like the most natural thing to do. Surprisingly, Blaze and Ruby obeyed. It was as if an unknown force was moving them, as if Katherine's orders were moving them. Katherine realized at that moment that her guardians were keeping something very important from her. With a newfound determination to find out the truth, Katherine helped the two strangers come back to her home. Blaze and Ruby followed behind obediently.
Back home, the two strangers finally introduced themselves. Their names were Rebecca and Markus, and they came to this forest to find Katherine because they believed she was the demon who cursed Markus. But as Katherine explained, she was human. This meant that Katherine had been placed under a curse just like Markus. This was a huge bombshell for Katherine since she never thought her supernatural abilities were the result of a curse. Markus explained that since the demon energy she exuded was so large, it meant that a very powerful demon had cursed her. Katherine remembered her childhood very well, and she knew there was a point where her memory would just go blank. She didn't remember her life before she met Ruby and Blaze, so she deduced that this forgotten time was when she was cursed. She asked Blaze and Ruby many times if they knew anything. The two admitted to knowing about Katherine's curse this whole time, but their own memory had been altered. They didn't recall who cursed Katherine, but they had a remaining sense of dread whenever they thought about it. After a lot of pushing and demanding, Ruby finally confessed that she and Blaze were the actual curse. Their souls had been bonded with Katherine's in the form of her necklace, and Katherine was supposed to be a vessel for them. The next obvious question was why Ruby and Blaze needed a vessel, but neither of them could anwer. All they knew was that Katherine's necklace could control the output of their power, making it very dangerous if Katherine didn't know how to use it. Seeing as this is all the information she could get, Katherine turned back to Rebecca and Markus and asked for their help.
The two seemed to be able to track down demons or demon-like entities, so Katherine begged them to help her find the demon who cursed her. Rebecca and Markus were hesitant since they didn't fully trust her, so they wanted to make a deal. Fighting Blaze and Ruby made them realize that they were severely underprepared to go up against real demons, so they asked Katherine to be the muscle of their group. If Katherine could learn how to harness Blaze and Ruby's powers, then she would be strong enough to fight off enemies. Katherine happily agreed to it since she already had a grasp on some of Blaze and Ruby's abilities, but then they asked her to come back with them. Blaze and Ruby immediately protested, and Katherine was nervous about it too. For most of her life, Katherine truly believed she was the only human in the world. To go somewhere full of other humans, it seemed very overwhelming. But Rebecca and Markus argued that Katherine would have to do this eventually since there was no way she could hide away in the forest forever. If Rebecca and Markus were able to find her, what was stopping other people (or even demons) from finding her? Katherine needed to socialize with people who were like her, and Rebecca and Markus were more than happy to pull a few strings to get her an identity. Katherine was scared, but also very curious. Yes, she was angry at her guardians for keeping so much from her, but she knew that they only did it for her protection. However, Katherine didn't want to be protected anymore, so she took the leap of faith and accepted Rebecca and Markus's offer.
Katherine ended up moving into an empty house that Markus and Rebecca bought, and after some consideration, she voted against getting proper identification. Truth be told, after Katherine found out who cursed her, she wanted to move back into the forest and live a peaceful life again. Having a seperate life in human society seemed too much of a hassle, especially since she was immortal. Rebecca and Markus were very understanding, and they helped her transition into this new world as best they could. Ruby and Blaze were very upset about this arrangement, but they followed Katherine regardless. And thus began a new chapter in Katherine's life. Her peaceful life had finally ended, and now she faces a whole new world with whole new threats. Her journey is a tough one, but Katherine comes out of it victorious.
I'm not going to get into the specifics of what happens on her journey because then her story tab would never end lol. This story is split into arcs, so parts of the story are scattered throughout all the characters. This is just the very beginning, the next part of the story would be in Rebecca and Markus's profiles :)
Ruby
[ guardian ]
Ruby is Katherine's mother figure and Katherine loves her very much. Ruby doesn't like hugs or saying "I love you", but she shows her love for Katherine subtly through things like cooking. She's very protective of Katherine and has a hard time trusting people since she wants to keep her safe. She can be very strict and is easily scarier than Blaze, but deep down she is very kind.
Blaze
[ guardian ]
Blaze is Katherine's father figure and he's much more laidback than Ruby. He and his powers are terrifying for sure, but he acts like any other dad who likes to spoil their child. He and Katherine train regularly and she is his pride and joy. And just like Ruby, Blaze is also very protective of Katherine and will scare off anyone he doesn't like. But if Katherine likes someone, he'll begrudgingly try to trust them too.
Diamond
[ friend/family ]
Diamond became part of the family dynamic pretty late, but Katherine still loves her. She's kind of like an older sister to Katherine and she admires her grace and power. Diamond cares for Katherine too (not as much as Ruby and Blaze though) so she does all she can to protect Katherine. They get along very well since they both have a sense of wonder for the world.
