The Lost One
"Listen. I will lose myself if it means I can find you."
Lucas is a skilled sword fighter who was raised in the depths of the Underworld never knowing where exactly he came from. He is a reserved individual who has learned to mercilessly kill demons for survival. It's hard for him to express emotions because of his upbringing, but he tries his best. He isn't a very social person and can get overwhelmed when surrounded by strangers, so often times Lucas prefers to be by himself or with people he's comfortable with. Behind his cold exterior, Lucas is just an awkward guy. He wants to make friends, but it's hard for him to reach out to people. He's more of an action-oriented person and shows his friendly side by doing nice things for others. He's a surprisingly generous and shy individual.
For Lucas, his main goal in life is to find out who, or what, he really is. He doesn't know if he has parents, nor does he know if he's even human. However, Lucas has always longed for a family to return to. It's a wish he's had ever since he was a child, and he desperately wants to fulfill it.

Personality
Reserved
Lucas is an introverted and quiet person. He mainly keeps to himself since he's not a people person and because he likes having alone time. He's not the type to approach others unless he has to, but he's polite to anyone who approaches him first.
Patient
Raven taught Lucas to be patient because it's necessary to know how to wait to survive in the Underworld. Lucas is patient because it makes him a better hunter and killer. It also helps Lucas understand others better because he has the patience to listen to them.
Kindhearted
Being born in the Underworld and raised by an emotionally distant guardian are not the most ideal conditions for a child. It was actually Katherine and her parents that made Lucas learn to be kind. He treats people kindly because he knows what it's like to be sad and alone.
Resolute
When Lucas sets his mind on something, he will do it without fail. This is actually a trait he inherited from his mom. He's very stubborn and won't stop until he completes his mission.
Self-conscious
Lucas is not a normal person by any means. Because of the way he was raised, Lucas is aware that other people view him as strange and foreign. This makes him very self-conscious of his appearance and the way he acts, so he prefers to avoid crowds of people whenever possible.
Wistful
It's strange, but Lucas is wistful for a home that never existed. He's looking for a family that may not exist because something inside him is telling him to return to them. At first, he thought this wistfulness was caused by his urge to see Katherine again, but after he found her it still didn't go away.

Story
The Beginning
Lucas was not born, he was created. Using DNA he acquired under questionable circumstances, Raven (the Devil) used forbidden black magic to create a new life. When the spell was complete, Lucas's cries echoed throughout Raven's lab. Lucas looked like a normal human baby, but there was something special about his blood. Raven was relieved that the spell worked and immediately took Lucas under his care. To say Raven saw Lucas as a son (or family in general) would be wrong. In truth, Raven only saw Lucas as a tool and worked quickly to train him into what he needed. Lucas's upbringing was rough, and Raven was barely around to assist him. For the first few years of his life, Raven provided the bare essentials. He provided a small hut as shelter, he taught Lucas basic speech and writing, he taught him how to hide from demons and other dangerous animals, and he showed him where to find fruits to eat. However, Raven mostly left Lucas to fend for himself. Lucas learned how to survive on his own by the time he was five, but he was still a scared little boy at heart. On the rare occasions that Raven would visit him, Lucas would practically run into his arms. Raven, however, would never return the embraces.
When Lucas turned seven, Raven decided it was time for Lucas to start his "real" training. He gave Lucas a wooden stick and taught him how to fight. He told Lucas that he couldn't hide from his enemies forever and that he needed to know how to defend himself. The wooden sticks eventually switched over to real swords, and Lucas became an amateur swordsman at the age of eight. The training was tough, and Lucas would get hurt many times, but he was just happy that Raven stayed with him. It seemed that Lucas passed his survival training, so Raven finally decided to stay by Lucas's side. Even with Raven around, Lucas still had to do most of everything on his own. Raven was mainly there for combat training. He did not eat or sleep, so he would just keep watch at night while Lucas slept. Lucas was aware that Raven would never see him as family, but he took comfort in the fact that Raven still watched over him in a way. But unbeknownst to Lucas, Raven was his family (his older brother in fact). The reason Raven was distant to Lucas was for two reasons: (1) he wanted him to grow up strong and independent and (2) he did not want to form an emotional attachment to Lucas in any way. Lucas was supposed to be a tool, and Raven refused to get emotions involved in his plans.
Lucas was aware that he and Raven lived in the Underworld. Raven did not keep it a secret and even taught him about the three Realms. At first, Lucas was accustomed to living in the Underworld. But as he grew older, he became curious about the Human Realm. Raven had taught him about humans and their customs, and Lucas was absolutely fascinated by them. He was smart enough to deduce that he wasn't a demon or angel, so he assumed that he must've been a human. He would beg Raven many times to take him to the Human Realm, but Raven would always refuse. He would tell Lucas that the Human Realm was dangerous, even more so than the Underworld, and that he had to wait until he was older to go. This only motivated Lucas to train harder so he could prove to Raven that he was strong enough. Raven would observe his brother's progress on occasion, but he was more intrigued by his latest test subject. In truth, Raven didn't want Lucas to go to the Human Realm because he didn't want Lucas to interfere with his experiment. Training with Lucas made Raven realize that he needed a new plan. Much to his disappointment, Lucas didn't show any signs of unlocking his "special" blood, so Raven decided to set his sights on a new target. This new target was a human girl by the name of Katherine.
For the longest time, Lucas never questioned what Raven was or what he did. He didn't ask such questions not because he feared Raven, but because Lucas simply thought it was unimportant. However, he would occasionlly follow Raven in secret to see what he did. This is how Lucas found out that Raven had a secret portal to the Human Realm. Raven would never enter the portal and would instead observe what was on the other side. Lucas was more focused on the portal itself than whatever Raven was doing, so he set his sights on sneaking into the portal without Raven knowing. One day, Raven left on one of his long trips to the Underworld's castle. It would take him three days to get back, and Lucas knew this was his perfect opportunity. One hour after Raven left, Lucas immediately ran to the secret portal and jumped in without hesitation. He did not prepare at all and had no idea what he would run into, but the exhilaration pushed those worries to the back of his mind. At ten years old, Lucas crossed into another world.
The portal left Lucas in a forest. Lucas was so overwhelmed by all the new scents and sights that he needed to shut his eyes and calm down. When he felt okay, he made a note of where the portal was and took off. Lucas had an excellent sense of direction and memory, so he wasn't worried about getting lost. He explored the forest for about an hour before he heard a strange noise coming from beyond some bushes. A few seconds later, a girl's face popped out and startled him. Lucas didn't feel threatened by this stranger, but he froze in place because it was the first time he saw a human. The girl looked at him for a minute before speaking. Lucas couldn't understand what she was saying so he told her as such. She also looked confused and they both realized that they spoke different languages. But ever the optimist, the girl approached Lucas and took his hands. It was a gentle gesture that told Lucas that she wanted him to come with her. Lucas nodded and she smiled. Hand in hand, she took him to her town. This would be the beginning of Lucas's first and most impactful friendship.
You can read what happens next in Katherine's profile. But in short, Raven was aware that Lucas crossed into the Human Realm. He decided to leave him be because he thought it was an interesting development. Two years pass and Katherine destroys her entire town on her tenth birthday (due to Raven's influence). She runs away and leaves behind a ribbon that Lucas gave her. Lucas feels guilty for not being able to help Katherine and vows to find her again. He returns to the Underworld and is determined to get stronger.
100 Years Later
Lucas grows up to be a strong man. Now a ruthless demon killer, Lucas was no longer the same scared boy of the past. He had a new goal in life now, and that was to find Katherine again. He had kept her ribbon for the past 100 years and it was still in good condition. After the events of Katherine's birthday, Lucas had expected Raven to forbid him from going to the Human Realm. But as it turned out, it was the opposite. Raven seemed to sympathize with Lucas and decided that it would be best if the both of them moved to the Human Realm. It would not only provide Lucas a new area to train, but also give him the chance to pursue Katherine. Lucas was grateful to Raven for this decision, but Raven had his own underlying motives.
Lucas explored every corner of the Human Realm for the past 100 years, but he still did not find Katherine. This was mainly because Katherine's guardians made sure she was undetectable. It was only after Katherine decided to live in human society again that Lucas was finally able to sense her faint presence. Although he found her easily now, he grew terribly anxious over her reaction to seeing him again. So he observed her from a distance for a few days until Raven gave him the courage to face her. He ended up bumping into her in town as casually as he could and introduced himself. But to his surprise, Katherine did not remember him at all. He would tell her about their childhood, but it only made Katherine more suspicious of him. Lucas felt utterly hopeless and heartbroken. He was about to retreat in shame until Katherine stopped him.
Katherine knew some of her memories were missing, she learned of it when she met Rebecca and Markus. So while Lucas's claim of being her childhood friend sounded crazy, she knew there was a chance of it being true. Lucas was potentially a link to the past Katherine couldn't remember, so she knew she couldn't let him go so easily. She ended up bringing him to Ruby and Blaze hoping that the two would know about him. Much to Lucas's relief, Ruby and Blaze did remember him. Ruby and Blaze had the ability to sense a human's soul, and they recognized Lucas's soul as the one that was always with Katherine when she was a child. This was enough to give Katherine hope that Lucas could help her restore her missing memories.
Lucas was reluctantly introduced to Katherine's friends and they seemed to warm up to him just fine. Lucas still kept his distance though, and preferred meeting with Katherine alone. He did his best to tell her everything he remembered about her, but he would always stop at the part where she murdered her entire town. He didn't know if she would believe him, or if it would upset her. Instead, he pretended his knowledge stopped there. Katherine was satisfied enough, but still wanted answers to the missing parts. It was during this time that Raven told Katherine and Lucas about the Memory Key and how Katherine's memories may have been sealed away by someone. Katherine was frustrated that Raven didn't tell them about this key earlier, but relented since it gave them a new lead.
Long story short, Katherine's memories were indeed sealed away and it took a few days for Lucas to realize where they were. Katherine's ribbon, the one Lucas had gifted to her when they were children. He carried it with him everywhere and it was easy to conclude that it was the item they were looking for. But before Lucas could tell Katherine about it, he hesitated. These memories would be very painful, and he didn't want Katherine to blame herself over what happened. When he told Raven about his dilemma, he would just reply cryptically with, "Ignorance is bliss." In the end, Lucas decided to give Katherine the ribbon.
Yes, the memories were very painful. Katherine nearly exploded with rage and agony over them, but Lucas was there to anchor her to the present. Thanks to her friends and guardians, Katherine eventually accepted what had happened. And with her memories of Lucas restored, the two finally had a proper reunion. Katherine was forever grateful to him for keeping the ribbon and for remembering her. She vowed to never forget him again and invited him to live with her. Lucas respectfully declined, but Katherine wouldn't stop insisting. In the end, Lucas agreed and promised her that he would do everything in his power to help her find the demon who cursed her.
This was the beginning of their long journey together.
Raven
[ mentor/brother ]
Raven was the one who raised Lucas and made him the man he is today. Lucas respects him and sees him as a mentor figure rather than a parental figure. This is because Raven purposefully raised Lucas at a distance to make him independent and so Raven wouldn't form an emotional attachment to him. As Lucas got older, he and Raven became more like partners who looked out for each other in battle. Raven is technically working for Lucas as his "Spirit", but Lucas never treats him like a subordinate. They're close, but not as close as you'd think. Lucas knows Raven is hiding a lot of secrets from him, and he also knows that Raven will never tell him any of them.
Katherine
[ childhood friend ]
Katherine is Lucas's childhood sweetheart. She was the first ever person that made Lucas feel normal and human. If not for his friendship with her, Lucas would have become an emotionless demon killer. She was also the one who made Lucas feel like he had a purpose beyond being a hunter. After he reunited with her 100 years later, Lucas helped her regain her memories and track down the person who cursed her. In turn, Katherine helped him realize what he truly wanted in life, a family. Together, he and Katherine are a perfect pair that balance each other out. And while Lucas still holds romantic feelings for Katherine, he's content just being her friend.
Blaze
[ friend/father figure ]
Blaze didn't like Lucas the first time he met him. To put it simply, Blaze felt that Lucas was taking Katherine away from him and his overprotectiveness kicked in. It wasn't until Ruby snapped him out of it that he finally realized that Lucas just wanted to protect Katherine and not "steal her away." It took some time, but Blaze eventually warmed up to Lucas and looked out for him like he looked out for Katherine. He treats Lucas more like a son than a friend, which is why Lucas sees him as a father figure. He's always seeking praise and validation from Blaze since he never got any from Raven growing up. Blaze knows how harsh of an upbringing Lucas had, so he always reassures the kid.
