Doremi [on the nose I know ...]
Demigirl - They/Them
---
Based on Porter Robinson Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do

Doremi always had a love of music. Being raised in a decently well off household, they had plenty of resources to work on their skills too. As they got better, more anticipation for when they could potentially publish music brewed ... and when they ended up doing it, they were lucky enough to be a hit from the start.
They were able to use their wonderful voice along with fine manipulation of their wind abilities to enhance sound. When they got to do live performances, this added a bit of showiness to it ... the breeze around you as the song went would be pretty immersive.
The notoriety they gained would unfortunately draw the interest of "The Cat", someone who at the time few people knew about. The Cat basically steals voices, and when this happens, said person's tongue becomes invisible. They're unable to make sounds even by clenching their teeth or breathing, becoming totally silent from it.
When Doremi had their voice stolen, it was devastating. Their initial thoughts were to try and utilize wind to perhaps make a sound similar to a voice, but it was hard. There's only so much you can do with the whistling of the wind. Being blinded by what they lost, they didn't consider pursuing things like instruments at the time.
Getting used to not being able to speak was difficult too. Especially at the start, they'd use a whiteboard or papers to communicate, studying sign language on the side. Not everyone would know sign language unfortunately, but learning it was definitely better than not. They eventually figured out how to navigate life a bit better without their voice, especially with the help of their family.
After a bit, they decided they'd go out and roam the world in hopes of finding inspiration to make music again. Taking some funds, some bags, and a few things to help with communication, they set off !! During this time, they'd learn which wild plants were safe to eat, a little bit of how to hunt, and how to prepare their own food. When they were at a town, they'd usually pay for an inn and try and sell the food they've made. It was to ... varying success, but people would say it tasted full of heart.
While trying to communicate with the staff at a certain inn, an old fan of theirs recognized them. This person was learning to make enchanted instruments of sorts, and especially saddened by Doremi not making music anymore, offered to make them something for free. Doremi said yes, and that's how they got their piano staff.
This also aided in a reasoning for Doremi to keep traveling, as the staff works in a unique way. On top of being able to change size and float for whatever is most convenient, over time it "bonds" with you. At the start, it sounds like a regular piano, but sounds you repeatedly observe can be turned into sounds the keys make [all keys will make variations of the same sound] ... the more complex, the more focus it takes to use the sound, and it can't be swapped quickly [on top of how observation works in regards to sounds it plays, the sound not being able to be changed quickly leads to it not being able to make sentences/be a new form of using a voice]
They had to learn how to both play the piano and get the staff to work properly, but in the end they found it very worth it !! Their joy for creating music was back, not just observing the world around them.
As they continued to travel, they ended up joining Mael, Warrin, and Viola, making music with them as their odd sort of pianist ... while also sometimes using their wind abilities they used to hold so dearly. Making music with their group was more fun than when they made stuff alone, and they are forever grateful for the opportunity to have met them.

Notes:
While Doremi has wind based abilities, they are not inspired by Wind Tempos [another Porter Robinson song]. Their story involves finding you can express things with music even if you can't speak out loud, which I associate more with Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do.
The reason I chose the piano motif was not due to the song, but due to my association between the solfège and pianos.
Doremi's hair especially [but also tail and body markings] have a faint glow to them, and in the case of their hair, it often looks like it's lit from below.
Their eyes are made to vaguely resemble wings or clouds, mostly clouds. Their irises are pretty much the same color as their sclera, but you are free to add subtle differentiation in color.
Due to Dreamland not being real and not having its own sign language[s], when I draw Doremi, if I ever use hand signs I will reference ones from real life [mostly American Sign Language/ASL] // I do not know ASL, so if I ever mess up, corrections are encouraged !!
