small and slippery— merest is a selkie often pulled away from her traveling pod. traveling pods, really... she never does seem to stick with a single one for too long. never in one place long enough to get attached: to homes, to things, to others. with dense curly fur and a stout little body, he looks as though he'd be a rather graceless swimmer— and he is, to some extent— but it makes for a great fighter's build. just makes it all the more a shame how selkies are typically made to flee rather than fight.
constantly roaming around feywold's southern seas, mere has made a habit out of pestering the fisheries and beachcombers— rocking their boats and knocking vessels askew just to screw with them, spraying water at those who walk the tides and ducking back beneath the waves before she can be caught. very rarely does she ever hold more than a stray conversation, maybe two, with a single cat: a ship that insists she cannot be anchored.

that is, of course, until she finds herself moored on a shoreline— bedraggled, cut-up, and concussed with no one but a lonely lighthouse keep. how funny that the exception to her rule is someone who wants nothing to do with her.

𖦹 though she holds onto very few things, does occasionally latch onto fishhooks as jewelry. she thinks the sharp edges make her look "tough."
𖦹 does not shut up. will not shut up, even if you ask him nicely. likely won't even sit and talk about something you care for. for all the grit he puts on, is incredibly nervous about quiet space in a conversation, and feels the need to fill it.
𖦹 does, in fact, have a "selkie pelt." her sealskin functions like a second layer of fur, akin to the double-coated pelts of fur seals. while it can technically be removed on dry land, it is somewhat painful to do so. grisha has only ever seen her without it twice.
𖦹 is a very skilled fisher, and does extremely well with smaller or less cognizant animals in general. seems to be able to communicate with fish to some extent.

𖦹 pelt pattern meant to mimic that of a ringed seal— this is also his closest real-world analogue to his selkie form.
𖦹 with that being said, the ring patterns on her body DO NOT have to be replicated exactly. you can do them as closely or as differently as you would like, as long as the general density [light vs dark areas] is similar enough
𖦹 body is littered with older scars across her back and limbs; one much more recent one stretches across the right side of her skull and its shredded ear.
𖦹 neck and cheek fur crests are very round in shape language. dense, thick, and curly— similar in arrangement to a lion's mane.
𖦹 tail is very large and very wide, with a "split" in the end— on both the smaller top and larger bottom layers— like the tail of a seal.
