girlfriends.... after a very very long period of merest trying to weasel his way into grisha talking more about herself :-J he ends up injured on the shoreline, grisha takes merest in and dresses his wounds, and is then very annoyed-but-slowly-getting-used-to the stupid selkie that won't stop coming back to her house to bug her. more under the tag so this isn't horribly long in your notifs..
for the most part, gris is very very isolated in the area around the lighthouse. does not talk to anyone, especially after their mother [lorna] "dies." mer is the first consistent face she's seen in god knows how long— partially because merest is stubborn as hell and just keeps on coming back— but is eventually the reason grisha leaves the island altogether.
lorna always hoped that her "death" and her leaving gris would push her daughter to move on, but all it ended up doing was make them self-isolate even harder. merest on the other hand getting grisha to ACTUALLY open up and talk to someone eventually gets her to realize there's more out there than just the old lighthouse. there's more than just the isle, and nobody has any obligation to stay here. SHE has no obligation to stay here.
they work together to fix up one of the [very old. very rotted] human shipwrecks into an actual usable boat... and they get to leave the isle together. they're allowed to spend the rest of their days out on the water together, combing shorelines for pretty little trinkets and catching fish and navigating by the stars.
the stuff in the character notes relates to that! grisha and lorna's is their last memories of each other, and gris and merest's will probably be about them actually meeting one another / earlier impressions.... whenever i finally sit down and write them out. but until then i'm forcing everyone to be subject to my raddlove propaganda because their placeholder blurbs right now are literally just a quote from fua27 AUGHH i heart them
