ROCK

Role: DAMAGE \ Difficulty: ★★★

Abilities:
x - Street Punch:
[No reload] While his legs are the bionic limbs, Rock is a non-projectile physical arm fighter, dealing damage if contact is made to the opponent. If multiple hits are achieved, they 'chain combo', and the damage input increases. Combos can't get above five hits, and can be broken either by an opponent countering with their own melee, stun, or one of their teammates disrupting it.
x - Move It:

[Cooldown time: 7 seconds] Rock grapples to an opponent after a punch, the punch launching him forward to attach to a player. At the punch's impact Rock pivots, picking up and tossing the opponent with the force motion from the hit. Larger opponents either do not move at all, or just move into the turn without being thrown. Smaller, non-oversized characters are tossed a very short distance; usually just out of reach of both character's physical hit move.
x - [Stun] Slam Down:
[Cooldown time: 15 seconds] Rock grapples the enemy and with a twisting motion, slams them into the ground. Smaller, non-oversized characters risk getting stuck in the ground for two seconds compared to larger, heavy characters (Roadhog, Orisa, Bastion, Reinhardt, D.Va, Hammond) which would only fumble for a second. The move does some, though minimal, damage.
x - [Passive]: Bounce:
When jumping, if Rock is angled towards a wall or barrier he can bounce off it almost like a double jump. If the bounce propels him towards a ledge or railing, he can then grab and pull himself up. The move does not work as a double jump in air, and he must bounce off of something to complete the motion. He can, however, use an enemy player as a bounce-point and cause low to minimal damage to them while retreating.
x - ULT: Buddy System:
Whereas the previous toss had a weight/size limit, the Ultimate version does not. Rock can pick up and toss any hero (or enemy) at a distance measured with an arc and 'pull back', functioning much like Hanzo's arrow pulls. While the move itself does no damage, the captured enemy cannot break free and escape which makes them vulnerable to other party member attacks, for being tossed off the side of the map at a distance too great to recover from. While this can be dangerous for an enemy, it can assist teammates in getting up to areas they previously wouldn't be able to. Teammates can break free of the hold if it was done on accident by pressing any combat button. Effect lasts 20 seconds.

BIOGRAPHY

  • Real Name: Rock Tremblay
  • Occupation: Street Vigilante / Overwatch Post-Recall Operative
  • Base of Operations: Victoriaville, Canada (formally)
  • Affiliation: Overwatch (post-recall)
" I can't just stand by and let you turn our city to ruin. "

Rock always knew from a young age he wanted to help people. It's what his parents did, it's what his friends and family did. It's what he was going to do. A tragic accident when young may have taken his legs from him, but that only made him want to work harder for his goals.

He's sympathetic towards everyone who wants to follow the path of good; humans, omnics, or the ever-increasing 'other' category. While his city may be serene and peaceful, the rise of anti-omnic sentiments is causing unrest in the streets, especially at night. So Rock takes to the streets almost like a vigilante to hunt down those who are trying to harm others. While he tries to wave off any fame by saying he's just doing what any good person would do, his requests to stay out of the limelight has done nothing for online notoriety. When warnings and promises rolled in that gangs would come to show that one man can do nothing against the changing times, Rock chose to leave his home. He went public with this choice, trying to update the online media on where they can find him next to make sure they chose to follow him instead of attack his city while he's away. It worked-- for the most part.

Now, Rock's somewhat on the run from the numerous people wanting to use him as a sign that one man alone can't change the future. No matter what city he lands in for the night after hopping a bus, train, or just hitchhiking, he'll take to the streets at night to help protect those who have done nothing wrong besides maybe be in the wrong place at the wrong time, or in an omnic's case, exist. It's through the connections he made while on the move that he found himself working with Overwatch. It had always been somewhat of a dream, since he considered them heroes, but as far as Rock was aware the company had been forcefully disbanded. Guess not!

Childhood/Family:
Rock is the product of a second marriage, where both parents remarried after previous relationships, but he has no stepsiblings. His mother (where a lot of his coloring comes from) and her first husband married young and decided they weren’t good for each other. His father (where he gets his looks and general build from) and his first husband didn’t work out and fought all the time. His parents married after meeting at a charity event for those who may need a second chance, hosted by his mother's first husband. The two hit it off.
Rock's father works as a Natural History and Human History museum curator; his mother still works at her first job, doing charity work involving the victims of on-site job location injuries or death. Sometimes his mother ends up offering their home as a halfway house to keep the children of victims out of orphanages, or to give people who don’t quite need full assistance a place to sleep as long as they pass her general decency check. Because of this, while Rock may not have any blood siblings, he has a lot of 'foster' and 'related by the heart' family.

Rock, while out with one of his extended 'family' members on a day trip, lost his legs in a train shuttle accident. He was fairly young and seeing how the other acted in a crisis cemented the idea that one day, he would help others out like this as well. In a state of crisis, he wanted to become someone that others can rely on.  While he’s not dumb, Rock is kind of short sighted, prone to quick decisions and running with it without thinking of the long run. The moment his injuries were deemed well enough to release him from hospital care, he immediately asked one of the estranged family members to help train him.
His family has a decent amount of money to run the halfway house without cutting too many corners, but between all the free charity they put forth and trying to feed the army of people on rotation in the home there isn’t quite enough money to spend on large purchases. Rock’s legs were a gift from one of the guests who stayed there while she was down on her luck; charity repaid for his family's kindness. He was given two pair; one is the bulky, rough, exposed-tubing set he's generally wearing that the woman herself built and a second pair, much more sleek and refined that were bought with health insurance and cobbled together funds from the whole of the house guests. Both were made to “grow” with him since he was still fairly young and be easily updated or sized to fit any new height he gained. The sleeker pair makes him feel kind of self conscious about being top-heavy later in his life, however, so he prefers the rougher looking set.

The whole of the house is very close knit even as people come and go; one of those strange sitcom families that talk stuff out together and discuss problems rather than try to keep it stomached solo. He's even closer to his parents and, while he misses them terribly while at Overwatch, he knows he's doing the right thing by working for a better tomorrow.

Personality

Prone to rash decisions and easily agrees with anyone's help request. Rock's not stupid, just a little overeager. He has a bad habit of apologizing first, asking questions later. There's a joke among friends that he probably whispers an apology after every punch he throws, just to keep his karma up. A little top heavy, Rock's a bit clumsy just trying to navigate his body around, especially in small areas. Due to his strength, he as a bad habit of accidentally overusing it. Many a paper cup have fallen victim to his fist.
Rock's the type to give someone the shirt off his back and have to suffer the consequences of public indecency rather than let someone go cold. This works metaphorically too, as he's ordered food from a foodstand before with the last of his funds, turned a corner without eating, and after encountering someone down on their luck-- just opted to go hungry that day.

Rock's also a little stupidly in love with Rigel Frye, an ex-blackwatch member he met before learning his history. While Rigel's older than him, he doesn't let this bother him. Rock can tell he's a good person. It was a little weird at first just with Rock's general fumbling and Rigel's complete lack of knowing how to be suave with romance, but the two work out well enough in the end. Rigel is also Rock's connection point to Overwatch, and how he got his 'job' in the first place.

Most Associates With:
Rigel Frye: Rock wasn't planning on falling in love on his desperate attempt to flee from those trying to kill him, but hey you can't stop fate. He'd been blasting through city after city when his constant online media updates finally showed themselves to be the horrible idea that they were. If you asked, Rock wouldn't be able to tell you where he was, just that one minute he was in his hotel room trying to relax-- and next, he was hopping out the second story window as carefully as he could to escape the poor door being beaten down and gunfire. Safety came in the form of a very public cafe, too bustling to risk civilian causalities without heavy government retaliation. In an attempt to blend in further Rock took the first seat he could, chirping a very polite hello to the poor patron whose coffee trip he just crashed. Whoever's table he just dumped himself at seemed to take it fairly well-- a little too well. He might have even noticed if he hadn't gone from running high on adrenaline to a dead stop, almost heart stuttering oh no when they met each other's eyes for the first time. His name was Rigel, apparently, and he was more than willing to entertain the poor vigilante trying to pretend to be an absolutely normal citizen, nothing to see here. He even bought him coffee which was nice. Rock had left his wallet back in his shot up hotel room tucked under the fourteen different forms of religious text in the bedside drawer.
It didn't take long for the truth to come out, mostly thanks to Rigel's previous spy skills being able to clock Rock's somewhat decently concealed distress. Without much other options, Rock opted to follow Rigel around for awhile until the coast was clear and he could go get what was left of his things after his attackers had rifled through them. One new hotel room and a couple of coffees later and Rock changed his plans-- instead of running freely throughout the country he'll follow Rigel instead. The older man didn't seem to mind, and as long as Rock kept his 'fuck you' updates off of social media, he shouldn't be found as easily as he had been before. When Rigel received his Recall, Rock offered to follow him there, too. He'd heard the stories, and he wanted to help.
Jie Zhang: Befriending (and dating) Rigel meant he eventually had to meet with Jie, whether he liked it or not. They were a packaged deal, after all. At first the man's personality was a little much, after all Rock was used to the kindness of Rigel and the overall helpfulness of the rest of Canada and the US. It wasn't that Jie was mean, he was just-- a lot. Luckily Rock can easily adjust and find good solid ground to befriend someone. Where Rock has mostly untrained street fighting down, Jie has a Master's level knowledge in Martial Arts. The two bonded rather quickly through their fists, with blood in their teeth and split knuckles becoming something of a bond-forming pact between them. They're both a bit of a controlled mess in their own special ways, often teaming up to do some frankly stupid feats in order to get the best results in a fight. Rock has thrown Jie more times than he can count at people and/or objects just to help him make better time getting a job done. They're friends, or at least Rock thinks they're friends. With Jie it can be a little difficult to tell sometimes, but the man clearly doesn't hate him, so he's taking it as a huge win and calling them friends regardless.
Cali Boyle & Nergui: Rock first ran into the pair literally on the streets, descending like some kind of buff angel ready to fight the first person he sees. The pair had been getting bullied by anti-omnic activists and Rock just happened to be wandering by, so he couldn't just ignore it. After punching first, asking questions later, he made sure they were both okay before running off again. That would've been the end of it, if Rock's social media status updates hadn't made him a big obvious, easy tracking target for Cali to lock onto. He never expected to see the duo again but they kept bumping into each other which was curious, to him, but he never questioned it. Rock eventually gave up and decided to make a habit of it all, declaring himself the duo's personal protector whenever they're in the same area. As thanks, and as a sign of friendship, Nergui offered to design more of Rock's tattoos that'd he'd slowly start getting added to his already there forearms designs. Cali even masked his IP for him so he could go right back to his "come to this location for an ass-kicking" taunting media posts again.
Reinhardt Wilhelm: At first, it was just Reinhardt's booming personality that drew Rock in. Even though the old soldier was clearly tired, he still fought on hard and refused to quit. Rock had even heard the stories from before, and to see the man still trying to do the same thing he's always done so many years later-- it was inspiring. Rock had always grown up in a house of shared stories, a huge oral tradition of sitting around with a drink and just talking forever until one begged off for the night. Talking with Reinhardt once they both had made it back to the new Overwatch headquarters made him feel a little less homesick, and the older man was more than interested in the huge variety of stories Rock had picked up from back home. Though their fighting styles were so different, and their upbringings even moreso, it didn't stop Rock from wanting to help Reinhardt however he could. He might be projecting old feelings for his parents onto the German, but he'd never admit it. Sometimes if he wants the training, Rock will offer to see if he can lift Reinhardt. Nobody really ever had been able to lift Reinhardt before so he'd agree every time and cheered loudly with the gusto only an old Crusader could get when Rock finally proved he was able to lift the giant with minimal issue.

Other Companions:
It's very hard not to be friends with Rock. You will probably be his friend whether you like it or not-- unless you're the type to be against someone just for existing. He has a wide swath of ex-Blackwatch agents in his friend list thanks to his connection to Rigel, even the more surly ones. Thanks to his homelife, there's not that many types of people that Rock can't stand so he's well equipped to know how to treat those who are more standoffish or shy, or just outright mean as a default. As long as you are a good person, or if you weren't one and are actively trying to become one, you have a chance in his books.
Unless you're racist against robots and actively hurt or don't care about the safety of civilians. He kind of has an issue with that.

Extra:

- He was made before Doomfist was announced sobs I'm STILL MAD.

- Rock gets more tattoos later; it’s a slow progression creeping up from his original two on the forearm. Both biceps first, then to his chest/shoulders. From there it goes to his back/shoulderblades. He's very 'mirror image' for his tattoos, with each side reflecting the other instead of being different designs per arm. Rock has debated moving down to his thighs but it’s so much scar tissue covering the thick of it that it's not worth the pain.

- While Nergui does design his tattoos for him, Rock still puts in some input about what he's looking for with each piece. They all stick to a theme; filled in blackwork with a geometric look. His family line has First Nations blood and he wants to keep that close to his skin, but he’s uncomfortable with just choosing a pure FN/NA designs. He’s unsure which People his blood comes from thanks to his bloodline being an amalgamated mess and the family history charts are just as muddled. So instead, to be safe and not offend anyone unknowingly, he opts for Wolverines and Canadian wildlife representation.

- On days where Winston has confirmed he wouldn't be called to participate in a mission, Rock has opted to not bother putting on his legs. Wake up, crawl out of bed, crawl to the shower, crawl back to bed. Open his comm line to request a wheelchair because he's not bothering with this today. It's not that his legs hurt him, despite their clunky look they're still fairly comfortable but sometimes he doesn't wait the added weight and weird tight feeling on his thigh's stumps.

- Sometimes he'll be fresh off a mission, given a day or two to rest, and just starfish out on the floor of his given room staring at the ceiling.
"ATHENA?"
"Yes, Agent Rock?"
"Can you tell the med bay I'd like a chair today?"
"Of course, do you need any more assistance?"
"... & probably someone to lift me."
