The little Luxling appearing at the De Serio farm was hardly a surprise. What was a surprise was how she had bonded to Mercutio - when the Kami had no idea she was even there. Blind as he is, and mute as she is, there was no real way for them to communicate at first. Mercutio was unaware of his companion aside from strange bursts of warmth and comfort blooming from his legs. It wasn't until Salvador pointed her out that he even knew she was there.

Ciana is similar to Mercutio in a lot of ways; quiet, kind, nurturing, well meaning. As a Luxling, she's unable to make any vocal noises, but if she concentrates her effort, she can stomp her hooves to make noise and attract Mercutio’s attention. Through a long period of adjustment and training, Ciana picked up her own means of communication with the blind Kamishiba. She spends her day helping to care for and nurture other animals, in particular she cares for the youngest of them.
