"Be careful, Boss"

Damon is the son of a human mother and a Thevan father, though he very apparently takes more after his mother. Each of his parents lived in their own societies, tied down by family and business, but they sought to meet up when they possibly could, despite the distance between them. Both agreed upon the fact that Damon would probably benefit from being raised with his mom, since his dad was busy being the head of his flock. Damon's dad would travel the distance down the mountain frequently during Damon's younger years, but alas as he grew older these visits would become more and more scarse.
His mother passed away when Damon was in his young teens in a sudden, unpredictable accident and Damon, unsure how to deal with the loss of his mother, just took care of himsef the best he knew how. It wasn't that his mother hadn't explained where his dad and that side of the family resided, but Damon didn't really know how to-- to face that.
It wasn't that he struggled to understand that his mother ways dead and gone, he very much did. He saw her dead, he saw her being put in a coffin and burried into the ground at the graveyard. Through the somber funeral, he waited for her to crawl back through, but she wouldn't. When he walked back home, he'd look over his shoulder, expecting to see her there at some point. But there was nothing. Sitting in their home, he spent the rest of the day, looking at the front door, figuring that despite everything, she could have walked in. But she didn't. She always told him that she'd come find him if they were apart, that she'd fight until she could no more and so when she didn't-- well. Damon knew she could no longer fight. That she could no longer return.
Damon wasn't sure what to expect. From experience, he knew that when something bad happened and when he became sad, he usually cried. Yet he didn't cry much. He was hurt? But it wasn't in the way he was used to. There was no bleeding wound, no stings of pain. What remained was a certain staleness and dullness. Like the air didn't feel the same, didn't move around him.
Unsure how to handle the situation, what to do without the parental guide to help him, he just... continued life the best he could, doing the same routine, though now without her mother there. She had been proactive and taught him how she did her job, with wares to still sell and so he did that. He picked up where she had left off, figuring that was the least he could do, when he hadn't been there to help protect her from an early demise. The town still needed what she did and he still needed the money. It wasn't that he didn't know where his dad and that side of his family lived, but he couldn't even fathom thinking about how he'd try to travel somewhere that dangerous to a person he hadn't seen in so long to tell him that his mother had died. It was a lot to take in, it was a ot to risk.
It was out of his routine.
The supply of wares that his mother had in stock, lasted him about half a year and with no idea of how to secure more, there was nothing else to do than to move on. Aimless and unsure of what to do with the life, Damon happened to stumbled upon someone recruiting new members to military force that laid outside the town he had grown up in. Despite an initial hesitance, the prospect of just leaving everything behind and starting anew with a new purpose seemed like a good idea. He was still entertaining the idea of visiting his father, especially since he had to come by at some point. At some point he'd come down to visit them, only to find out Damon's mother had died and he'd--- he'd...
As much as Damon wanted to stay in what was even slighty familiar, as much as he wanted to lean against the ony parental figure he had left, how could he? How could he do that in good conscience? What could he ever say to explain what had happened? Were his father to look athim, he'd see a son he hadn't seen a lot, someone who hadn't been there and protected a person he loved when she had needed it and now couldn't even cry tears for the mother he had lost.
Still in his early teens, Damon enrolled in the Martch army. It made sense to him - for as long as Damon could remember, it was all about fighting because it was right, because it was helping. He had no other goal in life than to keep on doing his best and accomplished what he was set out to do. If he so had to sacrifice the part of him that was an individual, then he would. And he did.
Years and years of fighting, fighting because it was right, because of a purpose bigger than him, bigger and wilder than what he could fathom. Because someone said so, because they promised him he was helping, that he was saving people. Because the enemy had to be defeated, because Martce had been wrong and deserved the land. Because he was told to.
He always made it through, despite everything. because he was doing it for the greater good. And despite the poeple around him dying, he managed to stay afloat. Untill he didn't.
After a shipwreck, Damon awoke on a beach, crushed beneath a pieces of the wreckage and badly hurt. He considered calling out for help, but alas he had no real will to. In that moment, he realized that he felt numb. A familiar numbness he recalled from his younger years, after his mother passed away. It left him empty, left him with no will to live on. Somehow, despite all he had given, he was back at where he started.
What bothered him the most was that he didn't really understand why and how this had come to be. All these years he had kept telling himself that he'd find a satisfaction for his constant fighting, but before he realized it, he had grown tired of it. It didn't make much sense to him.
While he was contemplating all this sudden dread and wondered how it had ended up like this, a stranger appeared before him and started talking. Not really helping despite Damon's quite apparent physical distress, the stranger remained calm and merely continued chatting. Damon was frankly confused, but with nothing better to do, he listened and answered as the man saw right through him. In all his years in the military, people claimdhe wa impossible to read and got unnerved by his general company, yet this weird stranger seemed to easily resonate with him, to pull and verbalize thoughts that others had a hard time picking up from Damon's few words.
"Just because you're alive, doesn't mean you're living", The stranger told him amidst his chatting. The ability to know so much about Damon, so much Damon hadn't thought about made something click in Damon's head; This person - whoever they were, was amazing. Listening, The stranger went on to tell Damon that the cure to it all was just to let go of what he had and stubbornly seek what he wanted out of life, to find a selfish want and to live for yourself. Sometimes that included helping others, sometimes it didn't. But it was for himsef, and that was what mattered. The advice was eye-opening. Life-saving for Damon.
He felt a want rapidly build as the stranger kept talking and he realized that perhaps he did have this selfish wish, a wish to follow this person. He wanted to know more, understand more, because this man was the first thing in a long while that made sense, made Damon intrigued.
He asked for the stranger to let him serve by his side, insisting that if he would let Damon, Damon would give him his life, as the stranger had already given Damon his life back. Intrigued by the declaration of loyalty, the foreigner let himself convince to give Damon a chance, as he kept insisting. He got Damon out from under the shipwreck and patched him up, before introduced himself as Nexus. Damon had learnt not to ask questions and so when the pale strange man asked him to prove his loyalty by drinking apparently painful and lethal ink, Damon did not hesitate. It was extremely painful, so much so Damon for a moment thought he'd die and apparently Nexus thought so too, as he looked impressed with Damon's ability to stay alive.
Damon came to understand that Nexus was in fact a cecaelia, a creature of half human and half octopus. This of course meant that Damon was joining him into the deep cold waters of the Calypto Ocean, where Nexus lived. One of Nexus' aquaintances Raboraska tattooed some magical sigils (One making him able to breathe underwater, one helping him handling the massive pressure in the deep sea and the last one making him able to transform into a cecaelia himself) on him.
Nexus took him to the Xagia district and introduced him to the place Damon could call home from then on.

It's been almost a decade since they initially met and Damon has found a lot of satisfaction in serving Nexus and overall just being around him. His world has always revolved around Nexus since that fateful day, but over the years he has found himself allowing him to get more comfortable around Nexus and it's blurring the lines of professionalism and partnership. It started with them getting closer, then occasionally sleeping together, but then Damon was just kind of invited to stay in Nexus' bedroom. Not just for a sexual relationship, but just to be around each other. When Damon would wake up at night, terrorized by the memories from his war or even the time before, Nexus was there to just hold him. Damon isn't sure what that makes them, but Nexus is his partner and he knows that he would ssurely die for him, if there ever was a need for such.

Personality

Damon is stoic and a man of very few words. He was never really much for long conversations, but ever since his time in the army, what want he had to talk to others slowly eroded away. Despite not trying to hide anything, he can be a bit hard to understand and often comes across as irritated or cold when around others he do not trust. Not just that, but he also has a general intimidating air around him and most people do understand that he's not afraid to put his years of experience in decking people to use, if need be.
In reality he is rarely irritated and much more just tired-looking. Not a lot faces him and he doesn't care for much aside Nexus and making sure Nexus is entertained. This seems to be really important to Nexus and so as an extension it is also important to Damon. This does often mean going undercover to steal things or just in general getting into trouble, which Damon mostly doesn't mind as long as no civillians are impactfully hurt by their escapades. With years of being with Nexus under his belt, very little surprises Damon anymore. He understands Nexus much better and is always ready to take Nexus' subtle hints to cause more trouble by playing along on Nexus' weird ideas. Damon is a very, very loyal person and despite having been offered on multiple occasions to betray Nexus, he has only done so if it was a part of Nexus' plan for him to pretend.

Significant Relationships

Nexus (Boss)
3902373?1555180319
Boss/Partner/The most important person in Damon's life

Nexus easily and quickly became the center of Damon's life. It hasn't become much different over the years, though his initial idolization has grown into a more grounded understanding and appreciation for Nexus. He'd throw his life away for Nexus in a heartbeat, as he is of the opinion that all the time he has left after the day he thought he was going to die, is owed to Nexus. Nexus has told him he doesn't think that's the case and that Damon has paid him more than enough back, but they can't seem to agree in that regard. And that's fine.
A few people have tried to offer many things to Damon, if he would help getting rid of Nexus, but to Damon, Nexus is the most precious thing in the world and so he has no interest in ever trading his existence for anything. Damon knows that Nexus likes having him around and that is payback enough for his services. Nexus has told him about how he finds Damon entertaining and that Damon kind of started as a hobby project that got out of hand. Damon doesn't at all mind, though he sometimes wonders why Nexus hasn't grown bored of him or what he'd do, if Nexus ever did so. Sometimes he wonders what he'd do if he lost Nexus in his life, but its somethign he wants to really think about. When Nexus tells him that he's never met anyone like Damon and that he believes he could be happy forever with Damon by his side, it soothes his mind like nothing else. It's a bit hard to place Damon's and Nexus' relationship, but if you asked Damon whether he loves Nexus, he'd probably answer yes.

Averyc
14741137?1652197827
Colleauge and friend

Averyc is Nexus' highranked xagia employee. He used to be above Damon, then he became equal to, and now Damon works over him. Averyc really does not seem to care though, which is a bit of a relief. Averyc jokes around and talks a lot, but not to a point that's annoying or such. He knows when to hold back and he always carries his part of the weight. Because of that, Damon trusts him a lot and it seems like Nexus does too, so that's good. Occasionally Averyc invites him out to sit and listen to music, which Damon quite enjoys.

Raboraska
10853436?1636042951
Friend

Raboraska is one of Nexus' friends, but Daomn considers him a friend too, he supposes. Raboraska actually helps them out a lot and also helped him get all those tattoos os that he could actually survive underwater. He wasn't really made for that so... it's been really appreciated. Sometimes Raboraska is a bit forward or affectionate in a way that Damon doesn't mind, he's jsut surprised by it.
