Tom is highly intelligent, and is likely the smartest of all the states. Thing is, he's an absolute jerk. He always asserts that his opinion is right, and when he's wrong he hardly ever realizes it. He's normally somewhat calm when it comes to standing his ground in an argument, but his real anger fires up when you insult his greatest passion: baseball. He doesn't play the sport at all, just watches it. He has and will always will be a fan of the Red Sox. Nothing you can ever say or do will change that. His life could be at stake and he would still retain his love for the team. Almost equal to his love of the Red Sox is his infatuation with clam chowder. Though not as insane as Akahana's love for avocados, he still eats it everyday for dinner. He makes it himself, and many of the other states actually go out of their way just to try to get some. Tom also has a bit of a potty mouth.
His relationship with the rest of the states should be pretty obvious. Very few other states like him, though the ones that do actually find him quite enjoyable to be around. He can be quite relaxed when he's not trying to explain how others are wrong. His arch nemesis is Joseph, who actually doesn't really hate Tom in return. He believes Joseph is "one of those @#&!$@# Yankees", despite Joseph's attempts to tell him he really doesn't care about baseball. Tom also thinks his goody toe shoes demeanor might just be a cover up to make the Yankees and their fans look better. In addition, he considers himself to be much more intellectually superior to Joseph.
