"Can't stand you lot."

A fiery wayward youth of wind and water magic, grown to a burnt out, callously independent pirate - her sailing on bloody seas broke her spirit as much as it had emboldened in earlier years. Without many attachments and with a mind only for herself, her time with the Lyra was life at its most tolerable, while her differences with her estranged family were old and many; yet in some small part of her heart she wanted to resolve it proper, without turned backs and desperate empty threats.

She never made it that far with her inaction before she met the gallows – but the thought was something, at least.

Personality

Independent || Compliant || Skeptical || Indifferent || Selfish || Begrudging || Volatile

Rosie makes for an easily forgettable impression-- decent to work with, gets orders done without complaints, and she neither outright avoids or initiates interaction. For the most part all that can be noted of her is... mediocrity. Average efforts, average ideas, average tastes. Perhaps she could do better. Perhaps she is lazy, or perhaps it is the subtle apathy lining her behaviour that offers the dull air, but she'd much rather be a bore than parade her virtues and vices for all to see.

And of vices, she has plenty. With a head more for herself and a stubborn habit of grudges, Rosie's hardly one for lasting friendship or loyalty and would sooner turn tail if it meant less trouble. She simply goes where the water flows, conscience dampened and distant to the point she often wonders what she even gets out of life now. Judging situations with the matter of least to most bothersome at the forefront, Rosie's compliance is just another extension of her indifference.
Yet while the rebellion of her youth had long since simmered, there are times where the moody manner beneath paves way for a vicious temper. In the end, she still does care about certain things far more than she'd admit.

Born to a Tusar human named Arne and a dark elven father as the result of a one-off brothel trip, Rhodeia's conception had been entirely unexpected. But rather than give up the unborn child for the establishment, Arne gathered her meagre funds for a fresh start. Without known blood relations of her own, she moved out of the region in hopes of better opportunities, but her child entered the world amidst her struggles with just the kindness of strangers to help her.

Near Linhythe Arne finally found solace when she met a fisherman and settled down on the coast. They nurtured a humble life by the big city and her half-elf child quickly took to the seas. With budding magic Rhodeia accompanied her stepfather's fishing and badgered the few other magic-faring sailors how to use her abilities in the trade. Her mother however did not want Rhodeia to pursue this route, fearing a tumultuous future for her daughter as a plain labourer, let alone as a seaman in dangerously fickle waters– and insisted she focus on the academic prospects of magic in more refined areas inland. After all, in these cities magic was a much desired asset, and Arne was certain that was the key to providing her dear girl a fulfilling life.

But bull-headed Rhodeia would have none of that even as a sibling was born. Or perhaps it was exactly because she now had a younger brother that she resented that responsibility; that she must do greater, farther, richer things for the sake of their poor family as she misinterpreted her mother's worry. In her teens she hit her most rebellious and built herself around the docks, straying in both mercantile and unlawful companies, spending as much time as she could at sea.

The time away changed her. It was on one infrequent trip home in her 20's that her mother couldn't let slide her disrespectful aloofness anymore. Rhodeia hardly resembled her starry-eyed self of childhood, spending more time with drinks at taverns, with a sparse hand in raising her half-siblings and having long ceased aiding stepfather with his toils. The youth that accompanied her made no better impression, either. Rhodeia was now the 'off-coloured stain' in the family. She had nothing save for scars and suspiciously acquired coin. She'd lost any semblance of duty; she was aimless, and what did she want to accomplish in life the way she was? While always possessing a difficult temper, the fit she threw then in her family's face was beyond herself. Spurning both her mother's difficult background and meticulously accumulated schooling funds, that same night the half-elf stamped straight back to her motley band to do as she'd always done, self-sufficient and callous as she'd become.

For ten years she drifted with privateers. Not for riches, nor the company ...but for the sensation, and part of some lingering vehemence against what she was expected to be--whatever that was. She knew the seas, she knew the ships, she disliked restrictions and she couldn't care less what happened to others at the end of the day. Life was straightforward and she was good at her job. Routine in thrills and strangely, slowly, gradually lacking of meaning, but was that not a way to live in itself?

Still, her last row with her family was one of the few things to weigh on her mind. Even she knew she'd been foolish yet the grudge remained. By the time she met a certain young man arranging a worthy crew, Rhodeia's–or rather Rosie's– volatile and impulsive streaks had calmed with age, daubed with apathy to take the path of least resistance. Having recently departed her former ship as the crew failed and was bound for blood, she saw the chance to offer her abilities to Captain Lyndoğmuş if just to stay afloat. New start, new luck. Same old lacklustre life.

8291-8293:

For five years, that is. With the recent tide of war in 8292 Rosie heeded their Mirian circumstances and the captain's orders with a raised brow, pushing herself for once to further her spells for the ship's performance. Their new Amedran waters held little novelty but the looks her greyed skin alone garnered certainly held more. She despised them. Yet in the end wherever the waves took the Lyra, that's where she went, regardless of whose side she cared the least for.

Come 8293, and the excitement of new sights and spells had long worn off. 'Retired pirates', 'Going straight'; the Agate Alliance their crew took protection under only held the driest and frankly insulting reputations, with no room for their old ways in any of Amedra's docks. Rosie, like many other privateers quietly cursing under their breath, wanted no more part in playing the straight-laced merchants and do-gooders on this side of the sea, so with an eager revitalization she took to the storm tide smuggling operations. Not long after landing at Song-Lu was the Lyra swept up in grander affairs, the main attraction: a missing person or two.

Additional Info

  • Born Roha, renamed Rhodeia Ennosid, nicknamed Rosie.
  • Didn't used to grow her hair out but started to after a particularly annoying ship pet took a liking towards it.
  • Dyes her hair dark and hides her ears when in Mirian waters and land. Tried a lil make-up too (terribly) before she managed to get her hands on a skin glamour.
  • Collects and wears poesy rings and hair accessories she loots from different raids.
  • She can hold her own in a careless bar fight like most other pirates, but she'd rather stick to the staff magic and all. Less of a bother.
  • Her staff is shaped after a trident. The prongs are sharp. And of all her possessions it's the one thing she'll most likely blow her fuse over (don't touch it, she'll stab you with the sharp). She has a looted wand as well but favours the former.

Relationships

(BG) Ennosid family [ estranged family ]

Step-father Siem [63], and two half-brothers[Dominic, 26 + Zeke, 24].
Her step-father initially had a very hands-off approach to family raising and with Rhodeia once she'd begun adventuring out of reach. Realizing that his step-daughter had perhaps become a tad too independent he focused more on connecting with his boys, both of whom are unfamiliar with their half-sister now.

(BG) Arne Ennosid [56] [ estranged mother ]

Strong-willed but emotional, as a woman who was born with little and worked so hard to offer her children what she never had, she was devastated by her daughter's selfishness and her own failure as a mother figure.
Rhodeia can acknowledge now that her mother had been well-meaning, but nevertheless those demands were not the life she wanted at that point and she does not entirely regret how she has lived– even if she finds it an awful chore to get up with each passing day. However having left the family with such strong words still sits ajar with her. She may not be a grateful and filial member, but she contemplates a follow-up more with the years somehow... Well, if they're still around and all. It'd be simpler if they weren't.

Orion Lyndoğmuş [ Captain ]

Current captain. Thinks he's an okay guy for lack of other things to describe him with, but no idea why he's raising a kid on the ship and why she has to deal with part of that occasionally. Thought he'd gone soft with the boring acquiescence to the Alliance, but things are firing up again. Finally.

Cookie [ First mate brat ]

First Mate or something. Rosie just does whatever the brat asks since it'd be a bother otherwise.

Piers [ annoying crewmate ]

A more recent addition to the crew, and... well, she'll reserve judgement on him. Or not. He's a pain in the ass but at least he's a relatable pain in the ass. Lost count on how many times she's tried to shut his trap forcefully.

Odilette [ former crewmate ]

Old familiar face. They got along decently enough (especially when it came to Piers), but didn't accompany them to Song-Lu.
