Saoirse is a jellyfish mermaid who sells their venom on the black market. It's highly potent and sought after by assassins and such. The only known antidote to their venom is their tears, so they're sought after too, but they don't tend to tell people about the existence of the antivenom. This is because they've been hurt and even tortured before for tear extraction, so they're rightfully wary of those who may try to exploit them. Their more "normal" job is making and selling "magic potions" which may or may not also be illegal, lucrative, and made from rare organic ingredients. Comfortably settled in their toxic businesses, they keep their past a very closely guarded secret (and are very secretive in general). 

They used to be an assassin themselves in the first quarter of their life, but got caught on a high-profile job where they were trying to kill a tyrannical royal. After their assassination was foiled, they spent decades in captivity and were experimented on to refine and weaponise their venom for the personal purposes of their target. As it currently is, their venom is not natural, and neither are their tears. After years spent refining their plan for a perfect escape, Saoirse broke out of imprisonment by killing their captors and setting it up as a lab accident. They kept a very low profile for the next few decades, even living on land for some time. The entire ordeal left them bitter, traumatised, and with an acute distaste for authority figures and the ruling class. 

Personality-wise, they have a deceptively sweet demeanour and a calculating intellect. They're definitely the type to talk about people behind their backs, and the vibes they give off are that of an individual who is quietly dangerous, manipulative, sly, and most importantly not to be crossed for fear of discovering a much more vicious side of them. Though they may be a villainous bastard, they're subtle about it and in no way rude or brash. They tend to smile with closed eyes, with tendrils softly swaying.

Some facts about their design are that they glow, they do not have a human form, and that their tendrils are extendable and much longer than they appear.
