biography

born on the shores of faerun, talya had a rough childhood — her family was poor, and she started working at a young age, helping her parents in their shop.

when talya was fifteen, a flood came & nearly washed her town away. the army of a neighboring kingdom took advantage of this weakness & invaded, seizing their land. talya's parents were killed as they tried to fight back, leaving talya with her two older brothers.

overcome by the need to do something, talya concoted a plan to leave and go to kilkennis' paladin training grounds, several days' ride away. she stole a horse and left in the middle of the night, leaving a note for her brothers that she would return as soon as she could.

unfortunately, paladin school wasn't all she'd hoped it would be. she struggled to connect to a god, and she wasn't very good at the controlled kind of fighting they tried to teach, much better at viscious brawls with no rules. she had an especially hard time with the lawful good attitude of the instructors and students alike.

it wasn't all bad, though — she met another student named zohar there, and fell in love. after a year and change, she begged zohar to run away with her & forge their own path in heroism, but zohar was blinded by the ideals of the academy, and refused.

so talya ran away in the middle of the night for the second time in her life. she decided being a paladin was getting her nowhere, and fell in with a band of chaotic neutral rogues instead — and while she didn't always agree with the things they did, it was much better training than the academy ever gave her.
